Overview
Matt from Become Elite introduces five essential soccer shooting drills, explaining setup, execution, and the skills targeted by each drill.
Stationary Shot Drill
- Place the ball on the penalty spot and shoot straight down the center, 10 times with each foot.
- After warming up, aim for all four corners—bottom left, bottom right, top left, top right—with both feet.
Rolling Shot Drill
- Place your foot on the ball, roll it 2–3 yards diagonally forward, then shoot it while in motion.
- Focus on precise ball contact and direction; take 20 shots per foot.
Move to Shot Drill
- Set two cones: one at the semicircle and another 10 yards back.
- Dribble from the back cone at speed, perform a chosen move near the front cone (simulating a defender), then shoot diagonally on goal.
- Complete 10 shots with each foot.
Cut Into Shot Drill
- Start at the 18-yard box corner, roll the ball parallel along the box line for about 5 yards, and shoot toward the far corner with your instep for a curling effect.
- Take 10 shots with each foot from both corners.
Back to Goal Turn and Shot Drill
- Stand on the semicircle with your back to goal, simulate a defender, dip to one side, and push the ball diagonally behind you.
- Spin, turn, and take a quick finesse shot into the side netting using the instep.
- This drill emphasizes quick turns and accurate finishing.
