Countries to Avoid

1. India

• Surprisingly high levels of racism against Black people.
• Negative experiences reported by Africans living there, such as mob violence.
• Example: Nigerian student Imran Uba attacked by mob targeting Black people.

2. Morocco

• Widespread denial of racism; negative attitudes towards Black people.
• Use of derogatory terms for Black individuals in local language.
• Black Moroccans also face discrimination.

3. Brazil

• Despite cultural diversity, racism is rampant.
• Studies showing significant discrimination experienced by Black individuals in work and justice systems.
• Historical context: Last country to abolish slavery in the Americas.

4. Colombia

• Ongoing issues with racism despite some representation in government.
• Afro-Colombian activists face violence and threats for fighting discrimination.
• Insufficient state protection for Black individuals.

5. Switzerland

• Low awareness of racism; however, systemic issues exist.
• Reports indicate that 1 in 6 people experience discrimination.
• Workplace and school environments cited as problem areas.

6. China

• Notable rise in anti-Black racism, particularly during COVID-19.
• Reports of discrimination in services and hostile attitudes towards Black people.
• Eviction and refusal of entry into establishments for Black individuals.

7. Cuba

• Claims of being a colorblind society contradicted by experiences of Black travelers.
• Anti-Blackness prevalent, even among Black Cubans towards foreign Blacks.

8. Italy

• Reports of police harassment and violent encounters for Black individuals.
• Institutional racism present, particularly towards Africans.

9. Spain

• Increase in reported racism and institutional discrimination.
• Public figures and athletes speaking out against racism in the country.

10. Russia

• Contradiction of accepting Black people historically versus current experiences.
• Reports of scams targeting Black individuals, leaving them stranded.
• Increased instances of violence and human trafficking.
