COPD Classification

  • Stages: COPD is classified into Stage 1 through Stage 4.
    • Stage 4: Most severe

New Group Classifications

  • Change from groups A, B, C, D to A, B, E.
    • Group A: Mild symptoms
    • Group B: More symptoms than Group A
    • Group E: Combines former Groups C and D
      • Criteria: At least two flare-ups in the last year or one hospitalization

Criteria for Treatment Groups

  • CAT Score (C-A-T Score):
    • An eight-item questionnaire assessing health status in COPD patients.
  • Recurrent Hospitalizations:
    • Number of hospitalizations used to decide treatment groups.

Treatment Approach

  • No Step-Up Approach:
    • Unlike asthma treatment, COPD does not use a step-up approach.
