Overview

Today's service included worship, prayer, and a sermon focusing on contentment, generosity, and the biblical principle of putting God first in finances. Updates on the global impact of the church's generosity were shared.

Worship and Prayer

  • Congregation led in singing emphasizing God’s faithfulness, protection, and goodness.
  • Prayers expressed gratitude, surrender, and requests for God’s will and presence.
  • Encouragement to lay down burdens and be thankful for God’s provision and grace.

Eaglebrook Association Updates

  • Eaglebrook Association has trained over 619 churches worldwide in the past year.
  • Over 23,000 people decided to follow Jesus in 2023 through EBA churches.
  • Global impact of giving includes church growth, leadership development, and spreading the Christian message.
  • All training and resources provided to churches at no cost, made possible by congregation's generosity.

Sermon: Contentment and Generosity

  • Material desires often lead to dissatisfaction and confinement, not liberation.
  • Biblical wisdom from 1 & 2 Timothy: Godliness plus contentment results in true gain.
  • Discontentment is not about possessions but about wanting more and comparing with others.
  • Four declarations were shared for spiritual and financial health:
    1. I have enough—practice gratitude and contentment.
    2. More won’t make you happy—true joy is not found in acquiring more.
    3. When I die, I can’t take anything with me, but I can send it ahead—store treasures in heaven.
    4. God deserves my best—practice tithing as a sign of prioritizing God.
  • Tithing should go to the local church, with offerings given above the tithe to other causes.
  • Church facilities should serve people and enhance the worship experience, not be seen as excessive.
  • Generosity is a step of faith and invites God’s blessing and provision.

Frequently Asked Giving Questions

  • Tithing should primarily support the church; other organizations can be supported through additional offerings.
  • Church buildings and amenities exist to welcome newcomers and foster community, not profit.
  • Giving is encouraged as a response to inevitable mortality, as an investment in eternal impact, and as a faith exercise.

Closing Prayer and Invitation

  • Encouragement to replace the desire for more with gratitude.
  • Prayer for those considering taking a step of faith toward generosity.
  • Next week’s topic: despair; encouragement to invite those struggling.
