Overview
This lecture introduces the UB Libraries' research resources, focusing on using the Everything Search portal for finding books, articles, and other materials, and explaining key library services like Delivery Plus and citation management.
UB Libraries Resources
- UB has libraries across all three campuses and offers extensive digital resources.
- The UB Libraries website provides access to over 600 databases, 150,000 electronic journals, and 760,000 ebooks.
- Most library resources are available online for UB students, faculty, and staff.
Using the Everything Search
- Everything Search is a Google-like tool on the UB Libraries website for finding books, articles, data sets, and more.
- You can search by title, author, or topic.
- Search results are sorted by relevance by default; you can change sorting to date if needed.
- Filters in the left column let you narrow results by peer-reviewed status, availability online, content type, publication date, and subject.
Interpreting and Accessing Results
- Search results indicate if an item is a print book (with library location and call number) or an online article/book.
- "Available at" means the physical item is in a specific library; "Check for available services" means it is not immediately available.
- Click "Available Online" or "Download PDF" to access online articles.
Expanding Your Search & Delivery Plus
- Use "Expand My Results" to see items UB does not currently own or have access to.
- If an item is not available, use Delivery Plus (a free service) to request books, articles, or chapters UB does not own.
- Delivery Plus requests are filled electronically or held for pickup at your chosen library.
Citation Tools & Exporting References
- Use the three dots next to an item for quick citation in styles like APA or MLA.
- Export citations to management software such as EndNote (free for UB students), Zotero, or Mendeley.
- Use the pushpin icon to save multiple items and export them together from your Favorites.
EndNote and Workshops
- EndNote citation management software is available free to UB students from the library website.
- Workshops and guides on EndNote and other resources are available through the library's Research Help section.
