Understanding Adjective Clauses and Usage

so today we are going to talk about adjective Clauses now adjective Clauses are part of a sentence that give us more information about the noun or in other words it defines the noun so for example I love the shoes that you're wearing so in this sentence the shoes that is that's the noun and to Define that noun or to give more information about the noun we said you're wearing now another example the computer which I bought isn't very good same thing the computer is the noun um and then I brought isn't very good is defining that noun now we have two types of adjective Clauses and the first one we're going to talk about our defining adjective Clauses now defining adjective Clauses tell us exactly which person or thing we are talking about um in defining adjective Clauses we do not use commas Okay so um I love people who like to have a good time and I will eat anything that contains cheese now adjective Clauses are introduced by relative pronouns so the relative pronouns that we use are who whom who that which when and where now we use these all in different ways so who which and that are used as subjects of verbs okay so the man that is playing the piano is my friend or the store which sells that kind of furniture is Ikea now the man and the store are subjects um that's why we're using that and which now the relative pronouns who whom which and that are commonly used as ads um objects of verbs in adjective Clauses so do you know the guy that I'm talking about now in spoken English um generally we remove the relative pronouns so you could say the coffee that you bought was absolutely Del delicious but generally in speaking we would say the coffee you bought was absolutely delicious okay so generally we take them away now who and whom are used for people and whom is much much more formal than who typically you you'll probably only hear who um but it is possible that you would hear whom so teachers are people whom I really respect or teachers are people who I really respect now that can be used for both people and things okay so the library that we visited was quite beautiful or the officer that spoke to us was quite rude now which is only used for things so something like uh the class that I or the class which I study in is really fun I hope you enjoyed the video thank you
