Delicious Chili Beans Recipe

Ingredients

  1. Meat
    • Options: Ground beef, ground turkey, ground chuck
    • Example: 1 lb ground beef, 1 lb ground turkey (total 2 lbs of meat)
  2. Vegetables
    • Green pepper, red pepper, yellow onion (diced or chopped)
    • Garlic (1-2 tbsp, fresh or minced)
  3. Seasonings
    • All-purpose seasoning with crushed red peppers, oregano, garlic
    • Garlic, onion, salt, pepper blend
    • Chili powder (under 2 tbsp per pound of meat)
    • Light brown sugar (for balance)
  4. Tomatoes
    • 28 oz large can of diced tomatoes (or 8-10 fresh tomatoes)
    • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  5. Beans
    • Kidney beans
    • 28 oz can of pinto beans (in mild chili sauce)
  6. Liquids
    • Water (1 1/2 cups)
    • Optional: Broth

Cooking Instructions

  1. Initial Preparation
    • Break up and halfway cook the ground meat
    • Dice/chop vegetables and add to meat to cook
  2. Adding Ingredients
    • Add garlic once veggies and meat are browning
    • Drain meat mixture
    • Add seasoning blends and mix
    • Add diced tomatoes and tomato paste (ensure paste dissolves completely)
  3. Adding Beans
    • Mix in kidney beans and pinto beans
    • Ensure to stir from the bottom to prevent sticking
  4. Final Adjustments
    • Add additional seasoning (1 tsp each)
    • Add chili powder (under 2 tbsp per pound of meat)
    • Add a bit of light brown sugar to balance out acidity
    • Add water (1 1/2 cups), mix everything together
    • Optional: Add broth instead of water
    • Add 2 bay leaves
  5. Cooking Process
    • Cover with lid and let cook for about an hour to an hour and a half
    • Medium-low heat (3-4 setting)
    • Continuously stir to prevent sticking
