Physician's Orders

  • Medication: Lisinopril Zestril 5 mg PO daily
    • Check blood pressure before administration.
    • Hold if BP < 100/60.
    • Current BP: 135/80 (Safe to administer).
  • Insulin Administration:
    • Check fasting blood sugar stat.
    • If blood sugar > 200, administer regular insulin subcutaneously.
    • Formula: (Fasting blood sugar - 130) / 30.
    • Current blood sugar: 250 → 4 units of insulin required.
    • Call physician if blood sugar > 400.

Medication Preparation

Administration Steps

Insulin

  • Administer in left arm (rotate sites).
  • Validate no prior site issues (e.g., bruising).
  • Use alcohol swab for site preparation.
  • Injection technique: Hold for 10 seconds post-injection.

Lisinopril

  • Administer PO; verify patient swallows.

Post-Administration Actions

  • Ensure patient's comfort and safety.
  • Document administration details:
    • Lisinopril: 5 mg PO, with BP 135/80.
    • Insulin: 4 units SC in left arm.
  • Log out of medication systems.
