CNA Procedure: Checking Pulse
Introduction
Greeting and Introduction
:
Start with proper hygiene: Wash hands.
Greet the patient: "Knock knock. Good morning, my name is Xavier."

Verify Patient Identity
:
Ask permission to check the name band: "Is it okay if I check your name band?"

Pulse Check
:
Explain the procedure: "Is it okay if I check your pulse today?"
Locate radial pulse:
Place fingertips on the thumb side of the client's wrist.
Count the beats for one full minute.
Closing
Provide Call Light
:
Ensure the patient has access to the call light: "Mrs. Smith, here is your call light."
Post-Procedure Hygiene
:
Wash hands before recording.

:
Record the pulse rate within plus or minus four beats of the evaluator's reading.
Notes
