What is Descriptive Text?

Purpose of Descriptive Text

Structure of Descriptive Text

  1. Identification

    • Located in the first paragraph.
    • Purpose: To identify or introduce the object being described.
  2. Description

    • Located in the second paragraph and beyond.
    • Purpose: To detail the characteristics or nature of the object.

Language Characteristics

  1. Simple Present Tense

    • Used to state facts or truths.
    • Example: "He has a pointed nose." / "A giraffe is very big."
  2. Adjectives

    • Various types to provide descriptive details.
    • Examples: beautiful, big, long, sharp.
  3. Linking Verbs

    • Connects the subject to additional information.
    • Examples: is, am, are, appear, grow, look, smell, sound.
    • Example Sentences:
      • "He is handsome."
      • "It smells nice."
      • "The song sounds beautiful."
  4. Adverbs of Degree

    • Used to modify adjectives or other adverbs.
    • Examples: very, extremely, and divinely.
    • Example Sentences:
      • "He is very handsome."
      • "The song sounds extremely beautiful."
