Motivation and Persistence in Contracting

How do you keep going? Got your cage code or maybe you're interested in government contracting, perhaps you've even submitted some bids you haven't won and you're thinking of throwing in the towel and giving up. So here's some motivation based on my 17 years in this space in government contracting. If you haven't already, check out winnerswaybook.com. Winnerswaybook.com also available on Amazon.

First and foremost, why are you doing this to begin with? What is your why? I'm doing this because I never wanted to work for anyone.

As a little girl, I witnessed my dad work for a variety of manufacturing companies. I had the habit of downsizing every two to four years. And I said to myself, I am never going to work for somebody who controls my income.

I never wanted to experience that. I knew I was going to be an entrepreneur. I didn't expect to do it so young, but I just knew. What is your why? Is it to make money?

Is it to pay for a new roof? Is it to pay for a vacation? Is it to replace your full-time job?

Is it to spend more time with family? Who knows? But you have to think of your why.

So for me, it was freedom. That was initially the reason. Next, I think about all those people who doubt me.

Oh, I think about them. Teachers, friends, family. I mean, shoot, I was giving up for adoption. I think about people who doubted me. I'm not gonna give up.

What does that do? It just gives them fuel. Doubt me. I want you to doubt me. I want you to question me.

I want you to wonder. Because all it does is fuel me. because I know God is in me and I know that this is part of God's plan and you can't take away what God has planned for you. So think about it a lot.

Next, I think about my successes. All of those things I've accomplished in life in my darkest moments. I think about what I went through to get a PhD, the foot surgery I had, not being able to walk for three weeks. I think about personal things I'll never talk about. how I was able to overcome those things.

I think about all kinds of things, be it childhood to, you know, forever being 28 with the popping curls, whatever it is. I think about, man, I was over able to overcome those things. And another one, and I have to give credit where credit is due.

And that is to my business partner. My business partner has said, you know, Kizzy, have you thought about like in detail things that happened in your life three months ago? And I was like, no. then do you think you're going to think about what's going on right now, three months from now? Business partners, like this is part of the journey. This is part of the growth.

So while you may not be winning now, three months from now, you're probably going to win. Three months from then, you're going to win. And I love that because I don't even know what I wore two days ago, let alone I don't really know what I was dealing with three months ago. So I love that. The other thing you have to think about is that there's this plethora of opportunities.

There are literally over 2,000 opportunities due within... 30 to 60 days on sam.gov. This is a very fruitful market. There's no reason you can't win a contract.

You just got to stick with it. Stick with it because most people are like, oh, I'm done. I ain't going to do this. That's too hard. I don't want to do it.

God bless them. That's great. I love when things are hard. I love when things are difficult. I want that.

I want the challenge sometimes because I know it's going to be easy. There's a difference between easy, fast money, and get rich quick. When I say easy, it's about ease.

It's going to be light. It's going to be easy. Easy.

Life doesn't have to be hard. There may have been a time in your life like mine where things were hard. It served a purpose.

There's a reason for it. Not anymore. Life doesn't have to be hard. You don't have to say, oh, it's hard. This is going to be hard.

This is so hard. Why? Then you're manifesting hard. No, we're manifesting ease, success, abundance. You know, I was at this farmer's market because I'm here in Miami Beach because of surgery, 8 July.

So I'll go back home to Tulum after. everything's done with surgery and I smelled copal which is very common in Tulum and I was like oh my god copal you know it's kind of like a sign of home it was really sweet and I went up to the woman and I said oh my gosh what is that she's like oh it's a special copal stick and I was like oh that's great she's like you don't need the charcoal great I said well where did you get it I'm just curious I can't tell you where I got it that's how I was like dang signs of a scarcity mindset She was thinking, oh, I can't give her the name because then I'm going to lose the sale. Really? Really? The same applies to government contracting.

The market is not saturated. All subcontractors aren't trying to steal your work. If you believe these things, if you're running around in scarcity mindset, scarcity mode, that's what you're going to get.

When you are instead in abundance mode, that's what you're going to get. Next thing is you have to be confident, y'all. Y'all got to be confident and believe in what you do. If you don't believe in what you offer and your pricing and stand by who you are, what you can give the federal government, then how in the heck can you ask them for a penny? How?

You tell me. Why should they work with you if you don't even believe in what you do? You need to believe in what you do.

You believed in yourself enough that you signed up on sam.gov. So what happened? What changed? Because it's a little challenging and it's not your first rodeo. Better put on that Beyonce album.

You better cowboy Carter up, put the hat on. I mean it. There's so many opportunities. Such an amazing market.

No reason you can't win a contract. There's no reason. So I love and adore you. Every single one of you.

And just know I have my moments too. I cry, go for walks, cry on lives, cry by myself. I cry to business partner. There are moments of celebration. There are moments when I question.

But guess what? I don't give up. Not going to give up.

Then I'll be a hypocrite. And I've come too far. And I know God has a plan.

And I feel it. I know this is part of the plan. I know God has a plan for you too. Just letting you know, I love you guys.
