Eye Bag Fat Repositioning and Mid-Face Lift Surgery

Speaker Introduction

  • Dr. Yang Guohui
  • Director of New Saint Plastic Surgery Clinic

Surgery Overview

  • Eye bag fat repositioning and mid-face lift can be completed in a single surgery.

Why Do Eye Bags and Tear Troughs Form?

  • Eye Bags
    • There is fatty tissue inside the eye socket that naturally protects the eyeball.
    • In youth, the lower eyelid tissue is firm, but with aging, the tissue becomes loose, and the fat progressively protrudes, forming eye bags.
  • Tear Troughs
    • The sunken structure below the eye bags, formed by ligaments between the orbicularis oculi muscle and the orbital bone.
    • With aging, fat displacement causes the formation of tear troughs.

Evolution of Eye Bag Surgery

  • Traditional Method: Simply removing the protruding fat but unable to solve the tear trough issue.
  • Evolved to Fat Repositioning:
    • Repositioning the eye bag fat to the tear trough area, fixing it flat.
    • Suitable for those under 30 with no loose skin.

External Eye Bag Surgery

  • Suitable for those between 30-40 years old with loose skin and dark circles.
  • Incision Location: 1-2mm below the eyelashes.
  • Involves loosening the tear trough, fat repositioning, and removing excess skin and muscle.

Mid-Face Lift Surgery

  • Suitable for those with loose facial skin and prominent nasolabial folds.
  • Requires an extensive detachment range, including cheek fat.
  • Lifting the orbicularis muscle and fat to elevate the cheeks, enhancing the fullness of the apple cheek.
  • Using special sutures, Goretex, to increase long-term results.

Surgery Effects and Duration

  • The surgical effects can last at least 10 years, up to 15-20 years with good maintenance.

Anesthesia Method

  • The surgery requires local anesthesia, facilitating the assessment of the lift tightness.
  • Patients keep their eyes closed most of the time, so there is no need to worry about pain.
  • Surgery Duration: Approximately 2 to 3 hours.

Side Effects and Recovery Period

  • With proper wound care, scars will fade within a year.
  • Initial uplift of the eye tail will improve in about 2 weeks.
  • Swelling and bruises will subside in about 2 weeks, with full natural appearance in 2-3 months.
