Effective Tooth Brushing Techniques

General Guidelines

  • Brush twice a day: in the morning and at night.
  • Duration: 2 full minutes per session.
  • Tools: Use a small-headed toothbrush with medium texture bristles and fluoride toothpaste.

Brushing Techniques

For Your Own Teeth:

  1. Positioning: Tilt toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gum line.
  2. Outer Surfaces: Move the brush in small circular movements on each tooth.
  3. Inner Surfaces: Keep bristles angled against the gum line and repeat circular movements.
  4. Biting Surfaces: Brush both top and bottom teeth.
  5. Front Teeth (Inside Surface):
    • Upper Teeth: Tilt brush vertically, move downwards.
    • Lower Teeth: Tilt brush vertically, move upwards.

For Others’ Teeth:

  • Follow the same principles as brushing your own teeth.

Importance of Effective Brushing

  • Plaque Removal: Prevents bleeding gums and tooth loss.
  • Sugar and Plaque Interaction: Can lead to tooth decay.

Post-Brushing Advice

  • Spit out remaining toothpaste.
  • Do Not Rinse with water or mouthwash to allow fluoride to protect the teeth effectively.
