Ribbed Beanie Tutorial Notes

Beginning the Project

Initial Steps

Half Double Crochet

Starting a New Row

• Chain 1 and turn.
• Work in back loops only.

Pattern

• Single crochet on top of single crochets (5 stitches), half double crochet on top of half double crochets (45 stitches).
• Continue until piece can wrap around head, ending on an even row.

Example Measurement

• 54 rows: Bottom ~34.5 cm, Top ~25 cm, Vertical ~25 cm.
• Adjust based on yarn, hook size, tension.

Finishing the Beanie

Connecting Ends

• Insert hook into last row, chain one, turn, align ends, slip stitch across.
  • Use front loops only for seamless ribbing.

Fastening Off

• Chain 1, cut yarn leaving ~25 cm for sewing top.
• Thread through yarn needle, sew top, gather by threading through ridges, pull tight.
• Secure with a double knot using starting loose end.

Securing Top

• Additional sewing if necessary for hole closure.
• Weave in loose ends on inside of hat for neatness.
