Mean Behavior versus Bullying

  • Mean Behavior:

    • Occurs when someone says or does something hurtful once or twice.
    • Often driven by emotions like anger, upset, or jealousy.
    • While not okay, it's different from bullying.
  • Bullying:

    • Involves repeated use of power to hurt or upset someone.
    • Can be physical or verbal (e.g., name-calling, hurtful remarks).
    • Much more severe than mean behavior.

Understanding Cyberbullying

  • Cyberbullying:
    • Similar to bullying but occurs online or via digital devices (e.g., phones).
    • Harder to escape as it can happen anytime, anywhere.
    • Easier for cyberbullies to remain anonymous.
    • Can involve multiple people ganging up on someone.
    • Visible to a wider audience online.

Actions to Take Against Bullying and Cyberbullying

  • Support the Victim: Show care and provide emotional support.
  • Be an Upstander: Stand up for the victim, confront the bully.
  • Report: Inform a trusted adult or authority figure about the bullying.
