Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

Overview

  • PLCs stand for Professional Learning Communities.
  • They are meetings for teachers to discuss educational matters like data and student progression.
  • Also humorously referred to as "Places Ladies Converse."

Types of PLC Meetings

1. Administrator Present

  • Introduction (10 minutes):
    • Discussion on best practices and current educational trends.
    • Common terms: Fidelity, Differentiation.
  • Data Discussion (20 minutes):
    • Review assessment data, color-coded (Red, Yellow, Green, Blue).
    • Focus on strategies to improve student performance:
      • Move students from Red to Yellow, Yellow to Green, and Green to Blue.
  • Standards Progression:
    • Plan improvements for the next assessment cycle.
  • Minutes Compilation:
    • Decide who will write and email minutes to the principal.

2. Administrator Not Present

  • Introduction (10 minutes):
    • Casual discussion about personal interests, e.g., lottery winnings.
    • Common terms: d Abbey, Kardashian.
  • Principal Grievances (10 minutes):
    • Vent about any issues with the principal.
  • Data Review:
    • Examine Red and Yellow student data (15 minutes).
    • Critically discuss the previous grade level's impact on current student performance.
