    • Responsible citizens participate in the decision-making process.
    • Importance of being informed: staying up to date on governmental issues and researching candidates and ballot measures.
  2. Voicing Concerns

    • Addressing problems that could affect the community (e.g., reporting malfunctioning street lights).
    • Example: Emailing the city’s transit department about a non-functioning street light, leading to its repair and increased safety.
  3. Volunteering

    • Using personal skills or time for community service.
    • Enhancing the community through active participation and service.
  4. Respecting Others’ Rights and Beliefs

    • Understanding that a democracy includes diverse opinions and concerns.
    • Ensuring that everyone’s rights are respected.
