Understanding Confidence and Self-Esteem

Key Traits and Definitions

Confidence

  • Definition: Level of certainty that an outcome will occur.
  • Proper Use: "I am confident in my ability to..."
  • Misuse: "He's so confident"

Self-Esteem

  • Definition: How much you like yourself.
  • Influenced by:
    • Extraversion: Positive emotion when good things happen.
    • Neuroticism: Negative emotion when bad things happen.
    • Conscientiousness: Hardworking (Industriousness) and Organized (Orderliness).
    • Life Accomplishments: Tend to increase with age, peaking around 65.
  • Equation: Self-esteem = (Extraversion - Neuroticism) * Conscientiousness * Talent * Time

Personality Traits

  • Extraversion: Level of positive emotions felt.
    • Extroverted people feel happier when good things happen.
    • Example: Extroverted person feels ecstatic versus an introverted person who feels mildly happy.
  • Neuroticism: Level of negative emotions felt.
    • Neurotic people feel more negative emotions when bad things happen.
    • Example: Highly neurotic person freaks out versus a mellow person who stays calm.
  • Conscientiousness: Predictor of life success.
    • Industriousness: Work ethic, hard-working and diligent.
    • Orderliness: Neat, careful, and organized.

Confidence in Men vs. Women

  • Men: Comfortable with women in romantic contexts.
  • Women: Self-esteem or general self-feeling.

Factors Affecting Self-Esteem

  • Alcohol: Increases extraversion, making people feel like they have higher self-esteem.
  • Birth Control: May increase neuroticism, potentially decreasing self-esteem in women.

Relationship Context (Rizz)

  • Formula: Level of Comfort (Rizz) = Natural Extraversion * Volume of Women Talked To
    • Introvert needs to talk to more women to achieve the same level of Rizz as an extrovert.
  • Example: An extrovert will achieve high Rizz after approaching fewer women compared to an introvert.

Quadrants of Self-Perception vs. Skill Level

  • Insecure: Low self-perception, low skill.
  • Arrogant: High self-perception, low skill.
  • Humble: Low self-perception, high skill.
  • Confident: High self-perception, high skill.

Success with Women

  • Three key elements:
    • Volume of interactions with women.
    • Being good-looking.
    • Having Rizz (comfort in romantic contexts).
  • Success Criteria: Having any two out of the three will generally ensure success with women.
