Text in Drawing - Lecture Summary

Types of Text

  • Single Line Text

    • Known as DText.
    • Allows for individual control of text lines.
    • Options include:
      • Current Textile
      • Current Text Height
      • Start Point
      • Justify (to be discussed later)
    • Typing dynamics:
      • Lowercase letters are symbols; uppercase are letters due to font settings.
      • Caps lock allows standard typing.
    • Editing:
      • Right-click for spell suggestions and corrections.
    • Positional Adjustments:
      • Use grips to move and adjust spacing.
    • Quick Typing:
      • Click, type, click, type for efficient placement.
  • Multi-Line Text (MText)

    • Acts as a block of text, maintaining structural integrity.
    • Placement:
      • Define an area for text insertion.
    • Editing:
      • Arrows for adjusting text wrapping.
      • Double-click to enter text-editing mode.
    • Justification and Formatting:
      • Same justification options as DText.
      • Can create bulleted or numbered lists.
      • Symbols (e.g., degrees, plus/minus, diameter) can be inserted.
    • Symbols Shortcuts in DText:
      • %%D for degrees, %%P for plus/minus, %%C for diameter.

Text Commands and Style

  • Justifications

    • Options include top left, center, right, middle, bottom.
    • Usage affects how text is aligned and manipulated.
  • Text Style Management

    • Located under Annotate Tab.
    • Styles include: Romans and Standard.
    • Romans style:
      • Uses GDT font (capital letters as letters and lowercase as symbols).
    • Height settings:
      • Important to leave height at 0 for scalable dimensions.
    • Additional settings include:
      • Upside down, backwards, vertical options.
      • Width factor and oblique angle for character appearance adjustments.

Best Practices

  • Leave text height at 0 to avoid scaling issues.
  • Use style settings for specific text needs such as engravings.
  • Normally, avoid unnecessary style changes.
