Overview

The African American Jazz Caucus Inc. (AAJC) is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to protecting, preserving, and perpetuating the rich cultural heritage of jazz. The organization is supported by the financial and intellectual contributions of its members and engages in a variety of initiatives and programs throughout the year.

Membership

Members are encouraged to join or renew their AAJC membership.
The organization is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization.

Initiatives

Donald Meade Legacy Jazz Griot Award: Honors individuals for their influence and commitment to the jazz community.
AAJC/JEN Mentor Meet-Up: Offers mentorship opportunities and networking for upcoming jazz musicians.
AAJC/HBCU/PBI Spotlight Performance: Promotes the rich musical culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs).
NCCU AAJC Jazz Research Institute: Supports research and development in jazz education.
AAJC Outreach and Marketplace: Engage with broader communities and markets to promote jazz.

Events

Annual Meeting: The 2025 annual meeting will take place virtually, with minutes available online.
Jazz Education Network Conference: AAJC participates in the annual conference, with upcoming events scheduled for January 7-10, 2026, in New Orleans.
All-Star Youth Ensemble: Features high school jazz ensemble members from the greater New Orleans area.
