honest congratulations i i hope i didn't cost you some money just now because i told coach that you uh that you gave the ball and a nice moment to your kid and uh he said it's 37.95 but what did it mean qantas he said he said that this was a uh this was a game that you you had to land the plane for the team and uh he felt comfortable you've been his point guard but uh what was it like kind of stepping into those shoes tonight i mean experience is the best teacher uh coach does a great job of not only preparing the players but he prepares his staff you know so we we do a lot of uh just things that practice where i'll take the red team or the white team and coach kellen to take the you know the white team of the red team and he'll he'll let us huddle up with the guys you know coach the defense and also go over uh offensive sets and scrimmage you know and so you know those those moments prepare you for for these moments did you pay homage to him do you would you normally take off your jacket that quickly kept the tie on but it was close right yeah i i i was sweating before the game uh started so i i was trying to get as comfortable as possible all right we'll go to mark berman with 526. mark go ahead please sir bonus congratulations on the win what was it like at the end of the game two things when the south carolina coach was talking to you and also your your players were hugging you after the win well it's a it's it's a great feeling it's a great feeling uh i'm really proud of the team uh like i was telling someone earlier before the game uh coach sampson has done a great job of laying a foundation and building an unbelievable culture not just at houston but everywhere he's been and uh our guys our kids that they played their hearts out the first half uh we you know we liked it to go it wasn't cougar basketball but at halftime our guys you know they they went in they listened and uh they came out and played cougar basketball what does it say about this team qantas that you can be missing two important players like caleb and marcus and you still get the job done i think uh again the our leader crow sampson uh starts with him and and then it's a a testament to our kids i thought uh quentin grimes came in and then at a great second half i thought he showed great toughness along with justin gorham uh bryson gresham and dejean giroud but it speaks to the character of our young guys trey my mark jamal shed and jaymon roberts for those guys to uh be receptive and and and follow those the guys that are leading them and come in to do what they did as freshmen is uh just a testament to our program of the many cool moments that you've had where does this one stack up it it's up there it's up there but uh the job job's not done we got to continue to move forward this was a great feeling um i love this team and i i think this team has a chance to do something really special come mulch all right thank you mark we'll go to chris gardner please chris go ahead coach white q you you called the timeout earlier in the second half second half what'd you say to the team at that point why do you call it a timeout say that again chris i'm sorry early in the second half he called the timeout what'd you say to take that timeout well i i can't i won't say everything i said in a timeout uh but you know similar to coach sampson when our guy is not doing what they need to do um you know we got to hold him accountable and that's what coach has preached since he's been here he holds guys accountable they need to be dependable and i didn't think the first couple of minutes we came out and and showed what we needed to do to get back in the game and so uh that's what was going on in that time of accountability all right we'll go to andy yanez with the cougar for coach white andy go ahead please sir that's qantas can you take me back to so when you found out that you were going to be the head coach and i'm curious that kelvin something can give you any encouragement or any advice heading into this game i told the guys before uh before the game um that coach the best thing he had a calmness about him uh before i walked into the locker room and i mean he called and talked to me over the phone and uh he just believed in our guys and i relayed that message to our guys um and just him having confidence in me it it dates all the way back from when i played uh farm all the great memories we had at oklahoma uh he just trusts me and and and i i love him for that but um i have to also give uh lord to god because he god is the one that kept me calm as well all right we'll go to chris baldwin please chris go ahead chris do you have a question all right we'll go back to joseph he's gonna use my computer oh you you joked about us sweating before the game were you more nervous than before a usual game and how did you start to go about your routine say the last part he said how did you go bob through your routine well i i just sat with the staff um and and yeah you're always nervous i got a little nervous when i was a player um but i i think i was more excited than anything and and i wanted these guys to experience a win you know especially facing adversity you know coach preaches about adversity and and what we need to do when we face it and uh our guys did a great job overcoming adversity tonight um but i just i i can't i can't uh i'm so proud of the entire team you know and the staff and the way they fought and never gave up and uh it's just a it's just a great win all right joseph go ahead um qantas i'm just curious you know and we know after the next game you know coach will be back but as a as an assistant and as a former player uh being a head coach one day i mean is that is that the ultimate goal for you in terms of you get this small sampling here and and just wondering what what you what your career goal is like that ultimately one day what you're working towards yeah it is a a goal of mine um coach likes to tell our guys and and and i believe in this as well you have to be where your feet up feet are and uh my ultimate goal right now uh is to to try and help coach win a national championship and um yes i do want to be a head coach that is what i'm working towards um and when the time comes you know i'll i'll be ready all right we got time for one more question with coach wyatt we'll go back to mark berman please mark go ahead quentin grimes just tweeted at you love that dude what does that mean to you that's my guy we spent a lot of time time together uh working out uh and i'm i'm always in his ear he's sitting right here and and laughing at me but uh he had a great second half along with trey my mug and the rest of those guys but yeah quinn's my guy i i love him too all right coach white thank you
