LabQuest Datalogger Guide

Introduction

  • Overview of using the LabQuest Datalogger.
  • Sections:
    • Basic usage
    • Saving files to USB drive
    • Apps for downloading datasets

Basic Usage

  • Connecting Probes and Sensors

    • Three analog data ports on the left side for probe sensors.
    • USB port for flash drive storage.
    • Digital ports on top are not used.
    • Right side has 5V power supply port.
  • Power Supply and Battery Warning

    • Use the 5V power supply from the LabQuest box.
    • Plug in immediately upon return to lab to avoid data loss from battery depletion.
    • Verify connection via battery icon on screen.
  • Connecting a Sensor

    • Sensor clicks in only one way.
    • Channel number appears on screen regardless of port.
    • Switch channels if probe/sensor acts irregular due to potential pin corrosion.

Experiment Setup

  • Cooling Water Experiment

    • Use "Time Based" mode for 15 minutes.
    • Set duration to 15 min and rate to 50.
    • Tap "Collect" to start data collection.
    • Observe freezing point behavior.
  • Melting Ice Experiment

    • After cooling, melt the iced water.
    • Store data from previous run to prevent data loss.
    • Save data to USB, phone, or email.

Data Saving and Exporting

  • Saving Data

    • FILE > SAVE to save in proprietary .qmbl format.
    • Requires Vernier’s Logger Pro software to open .qmbl files.
  • Exporting Data

    • FILE > EXPORT to save as a .txt file for use with Excel.
    • Ensure the .txt extension is added for compatibility.

LabQuest Interface Features

  • Navigation
    • Top right: "Run" button for data set access.
    • Top left: Icons to switch between Graph, Sensor, and Spreadsheet views.
    • Instructions and Notes tabs are available.

Wireless Network Connection

  • Connecting to WiFi

    • Use "Roo-Guest" network to avoid using personal credentials on public device.
    • Ensure both LabQuest and phone are on the same network for data sharing.
  • Data Sharing Setup

    • Verify Data Sharing is ON.
    • Write down or display IP address for connection.
    • Change phone network to "Roo-Guest" to match LabQuest.

Apps for Data Transfer

  • Graphical Analysis Apps
    • Graphical Analysis GW
      • Enter LabQuest IP to share and mail data.
    • Graphical Analysis 4
      • Specify source IP, verify data, export as .csv.
      • File management required for sharing.

Conclusion

  • Emphasize being on the same network for successful data transfer.
  • Consider app versions and transfer methods for effective data management.
