start off good and then you L you lose momentum it's huge anything you do momentum is so important once you lose it it's hard to recapture um you know it's like you're you know they're playing a lot better you're not playing as good whatever but the good thing is the fact Dan text me he says oh it's like 10 to 11 the third one or whatever and go to 15 I text them I said okay this will be a great test for those girls to be able to use everything under pressure okay and see what happens cuz that's what that that's what this is for is pressure okay did anybody feel any pressure M you should have it definitely should have uh because you had the whole thing you know and then it got close but did you use some techniques to slow it down breathing selft talk whatever okay did you use it what did you use any techniques were you in at the end no who's in at the end okay tell me what you might have done um okay anybody use any breathing techniques any okay just a nice deep breath in did trust come in any did you trust your teammates okay because if you you know when you're in that situation you just have to worry about yourself okay you can't go hope don't there and don't do this you know we're going to blow this or whatever fear of failure anybody have fear of failure oh shoot I don't want to be screws this up okay all right we need to work you need to work on trust you need to work on that so that you want the ball H to you okay through practice okay that's what this is all about it's being able to come in those situations and be able to handle it and not you know joke okay all right tonight we're going to work on things that I think are awesome okay this is what our guys did probably more than anything else and that is um visualization okay this is the one that I always always talk about you every time you hear somebody you know in a big game or whatever they've always seen themselves in that position before okay so when you do visual imagery you must be relaxed like we talked before you can use it you can use it any time shower bed whatever walking down the road you can use visual imagery you must be relaxed is that you say yes you must be relaxed you know that's why you know before you go to bed or whatever is always a good time you're relax you laying down whatever um and you always always must see yourself playing well which builds confidence we went over this last time right those those couple of things I've talked about because it will build your confidence and then the last time thing we talked about is use all your senses smell touch um hearing things um all you rather the more sensors you use when you're doing mental imry the better it's more real okay so let's see I want you to pair up with somebody and get your chairs out there and face each other okay there you go hey [Music] [Laughter] hey okay pair up with one other person two of you has to be two of you okay okay we ready by the way I'm not going to give any more tests come sit over here CU it'll save time and the coaches have all the stuff they give you the the test what they think is important okay what you're going to do now is you're going to think about how to get from your house to K stoga golf course that's exactly that's exactly what the baseball player say you guys don't know where K sto is [Music] Sun City the clubhouse golf from your house okay if you can't hey if you can't think of that unless you're like you know if you're a little bit away um from your house to the school okay all right either one so now remember we're trying to use all our sensories so you can either close your eyes or you can leave your eyes open I want to know exactly how you get here okay go ahead so we're taking turns one person tell one person okay we'll tell you and then you get done [Music] [Music] and for [Music] [Music] [Music] AG [Music] you guys done know you here we done we good okay I notic a lot of you closed your eyes and saw I'm sure the street the stop light everything else okay that's kind of what visual imager is like okay being real um precise okay now on this one recall your greatest game think about the greatest game whether it your 10 15 or last week or whatever and okay things you want to remember is what color were the uniforms what kind of day was it what sounds did you hear after your performance what did you feel like when you were performing okay how vividly did you hear see filled memory okay so you're going to tell same person about your greatest game this should be easy you've never had a greatest game I don't know you better work harder it's been a long time since [Music] [Music] not [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] around [Music] what really out of sh you seriously probably lost 15 said he probably lost like 15 and then weed [Music] [Music] it so I got him a sh [Music] the J 10 play it was like all my moment they [Music] [Music] turn [Music] [Music] we done we done okay so did you get a real clear image of what you were talking about okay so in that you can you either close your eyes it's better uh for me it was always better closing my eyes and I guess cuz I have ad or whatever I can't concentrate long enough when stuff's happen around me um so um some people actually get more out of the feeling than um seen it okay the feeling that you had during the game after the game how excited you were Etc um you know everybody dog piling on you to get the you know the winning U serve or whatever okay so that's um what we're looking for okay to be able to see things talk about it okay okay like anything else the harder you try to imagine something the harder it is to do relax and let the images come and don't force them okay this like everything else takes practice okay you just can't you know you just can't you know if you're a Daydreamer it's going to come a lot easier to you than if you're not a Daydreamer okay um because that's basically kind of what you're doing only you're putting um yourself in a situation in athletics instead of skiing or riding a motorcycle or whatever okay um there's two kinds of imagery which I had no idea when I first started when I was playing one is internal imagery okay and that is as if you were seeing it from your eyes Okay so if I'm a hitter okay I'm seeing the pitcher I'm seeing everything else I'm seeing it from my eyes Okay and when I hit the ball okay I see where it goes and I see me going to first base rounding second base getting second and then all heck Breaks Loose because that's a wins the game okay that's internal imagery okay external imagery is the one that I always did okay is you're seeing you're up to bat or wherever you you know you're serving or whatever you're doing and it's from the fans of people watching you so instead of coming out of your eyes okay you're visualizing that people are watching you when you hit it going around watching them all a sudden and then you see the crowd come up you know jump on your shoulders I didn't have that very often a couple times uh you know that's external okay when you're working on fundamentals if I'm working on um a shot okay it's going to be external for me because I'm looking at me and I'm looking at me having a great swing doing everything I'm supposed to be doing okay if you're working on fundamentals if you're working on something okay um the one that's usually used the most is internal but you're always um experiencing you playing and doing well okay that's what this is all about you don't ever you know visualize you making an error never visualize you something bad happen Okay okay and you want to do all of your things what you're going to experience in a game okay that's what you're doing like the guy from the ranges okay visualize himself playing in the World Series getting up hitting the game winning home run when he said he's seen that a thousand times he wasn't surprised okay and it's I got chill because it's really weird how that works I can't explain it I don't know what it is I know that it's a a fact and I've talked to a thousand people and and they say it's a fact as well and they've had the same experience okay your mind is working for you and it does the minds an amazing thing um in that sense but it it gives you the confidence it changes your fundamentals does everything okay it builds confidence if you see yourself performing in coming through all the time okay so tip for visualization we talked about this before work in as many senses as you can you know the better you are the better visualization are the more senses you'll bring in to make your images as Vivid and clear as you can like I said before you usually use internal more than you use external that's for confidence usually okay when you see it and you're just doing the same thing that you've seen a thousand times see yourself doing things well and here's another one is that is very important we ever going to make mistakes yeah all the time and remember it's how we re respond to those mistakes okay sometimes you just don't know but if you visualize it one thing you should visualize is making over success successfully overcoming mistakes bad calls and other forms of bad luck okay because it's all going to happen it's all going to take a toll on you um and you're going to have to react through those things okay if you make you know hit one out of bounds or you know umpire whatever makes a bad call on you okay you got to you got to know that you can bounce back from that and just Shake It Off okay so so one imagery would be to one time you were playing really well think about it right now one time you were playing really well whether your serve was on whether your passing was on whether your shop was on whatever you know you choose to think of playing really well those are the things that you should be going over so one thing that you in season right now should be doing when do you play Moapa again when 2 24th okay when you do your imagery you should seea across from you is it going to be home or away so they'll be wearing what uniforms okay what will you be wearing okay you should see those that game okay because that's the biggest game you got left right that correct yeah okay that's the team that is number one in the state now yes you know and then the next game then you could go to somebody else okay but you should be pointed to that game and you should see yourself doing well in that game and you should see yourself with the game on the line maybe in the fifth game okay and the ball coming to you okay that's what you should be every night from now till then you should take 10 minutes at least when you go to bed or whatever and visualize all of that stuff how you're going to react to all that stuff how you're going to react when they say come out in the first game and uh you're down 20 to3 how will you react okay or if the game is you know um you're up 10 to two you happen to just like get on a run how will you react okay visualization internal external it will work and you will be shocked okay but it takes practice like everything else you just go do it and then go half-heartedly and whatever yeah I did my visualization last night you know and you really weren't zeroed in on that okay then it's not going to work but if you take it serious okay and you it will do wonders for the trust in yourself okay knowing and seeing yourself perform that way and then your body for some reason just does it I don't know why okay okay we've tal talked about performance related trivers okay so if you're say serving okay and you get up there and you don't feel like you're in control and you're like H whatever they'll let you stop right can you stop and like tie your shoe once you get up there you can okay or maybe take that you know you do your routine and you don't feel good go back and do your routine again till you feel like you're relaxed take that deep breath and and relax I just watched the Dodgers this last weekend it's amazing everyone in fact Taylor talked about his routine he spent weeks when he wasn't hitting changing his routine and he was just simple as that you know okay he was up here like this all time well he put the bat on his shoulder like Chris Taylor yeah like we try to do okay to relax Chang one or two little things Kiki Hernandez who was one of my favorite players okay because he's a competitor I watched him really close and every time look at his Bat did the same thing every pitch every time okay that's that the next thing so I'm just going a little little bit faster okay but performance trigger great related triggers like you talked about what do you do clap okay to remind you to get you in the moment to get you in the next play okay whatever it is you do that okay and here's another one that I actually tell our guys all the time and I found out this through experience okay don't give your opponents more credit than they deserve what makes you think that she has all her stuff together in reality she may not so you never give them more I mean you always respect them especially if they're a good player you always respect them but don't give them the credit like oh jeez they're like I you know they're so good you know what are we doing here whatever I learned that when I started coaching Allstar teams okay and we would you know at the end of the year and you'd coach guys that you played against that you thought were like phenomenal and then you start practicing with them and you look at some of the stuff they do and it's like and how flaky they are in here the outa um Tanner Banks who's now pitching for relieving for the um Phillies he's you know he's not one of their better guys but he's on a big league roster he's been in the big leagues for like seven or eight years the goofiest left-hander in the world okay and so I always you know we we beat him as senior year in the state tournament um three too you know he's a good pitcher and he was but dang it he does some stupid things too he's not you know not all that great if you put pressure on if you play Passive and let them be better than they are then you're in trouble okay your mindset is everything okay that mindset is we're coming after you you know and when you put pressure on them they're going to make mistakes too that's just the way it goes okay they're high school kids and they made mistakes okay and let's talk about routine thanks uh 737 okay okay routine okay players who rely on outside factors beyond their control are inconsistent players players who rely on outside factors beyond their control are inconsistent players like you know the umpires or the weather or something else relying on something that they have no control over okay so that's why you have routines a routine a routine a goal is to build a predetermined series of actions that are a routine that you can use consistently to get yourself focused into a mindset to play your best uh see a goal is to BU your routine the goal is to build a predetermined series of actions that are a routine that you can use consistently to get Focus get yourself focused into a mindset to play your best how many have a routine has been the same routine all year anybody change their routine like I said this guy Chris Taylor Who's like most clutch hitter ever by far and you watch him in the in the series and he'll be the best guy okay he was hitting 199 which in baseball is horrible for the year but he's since he's changed routine he's like hitting like 305 since then okay just because you have a routine and you don't feel really feel comfortable with it you can always change it okay something you practice on okay the best thing that any player in any sport can always do is when you're playing somebody you're playing Moapa you pick out the best player and watch what they do what their routine is how they carry themselves okay and then emulated I always tell my guys you know they're on an Allstar team you watch so and so and do exactly what he does and then come back twice a bit okay so you have to be a student and be a you know here's the thing that a lot of times you know you're in the game you're not in the game you're on the bench and you're just whatever that's the best learning situation you can have you're not playing playing you watch CU you see the ones you're playing with watch the other players see what they do okay um you know get an idea how they car themselves that's the best you know thing you can do okay a routine is not a Superstition it is a check list of things to do before you perform it leads you to your best performance okay always be aware of what you are thinking and check yourself am I looking forward to playing today okay set aside 10 minutes a day to think about the game or practice review your reasons for trust review your reason why you're going to trust yourself okay this you have to work on Coach how our practice is going you seen any leadership qualities that's key and hopefully it's the best players because if you get the best players working the hardest everybody else will fall and consequently if the best players aren working the hardest everybody else kind of slack off a little bit too okay each one of you hel your hold yourself accountable that's the most important thing you can ever do and I tell when we won that first year and keep on going and then people go why how did you do that what's do you know you did this you got beat and all you went 17 in a row whatever and it was not it was the number one thing I think was now those kids were held accountable for practice and what they did and it's like that in life it's like that in work you're going to be working with somebody that's not accountable okay they don't care okay always be accountable for what you do if you feel good about being lazy I guess that's okay but you want to feel good about being a hard worker good person doing what you're supposed to be doing that's what this is all about in the long run okay be accountable be accountable to to your teammates okay and then that trust will come hopefully you're working on it and working on it because it doesn't come overnight okay you have to earn it remember that right you got to earn trust just like respect when you know I go out the coach I said I always say you know you don't have to respect me I said and I don't have to respect you I'm going to earn your respect and you're going to earn mine or else it's not going to happen okay it's earned nobody deserve respect if they don't respect people okay and do what they're supposed to be doing those are life lessons that if you just remember that you're going to go a long way in your job in your career and in everything else go the extra mile okay all right any questions can I can I say something hey it's hard to follow Coach man you inspired me tonight when you're talking about so um we won the state championship in 2022 and 2024 that middle year 2023 when we didn't win the state championship um let's see Stratton was a senior Jared Jensen Braden Harris it was one of those guys were seniors if you remember all those guys so we were we got awarded to host the state tournament that year right and we found out early in the season and I don't know about you but it put a lot of pressure on us I mean I I felt a lot of pressure man here we are hosting the state tournament what happens if we don't make it to the state tournament right so we go down and play moaa the first time and we beat him at Airfield and um I mean it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that it was going to come down to us or Moapa out of the desert League to be the number one seed going into the playoffs okay we beat him by one run on their field we come back and play him at home and they actually ended up beating us by like four or five runs so and it's the only time in three years moap beat us okay we're 12-1 against them so um the because they beat us by four or five runs they ended out being the number one seat out of the desert League I what's the tiebreaker in volleyball do you know my Beats beat them by more points okay so the so the point total the game in when when we beat him here it's going to come down the point total right okay so because of that point total they were the number on he coming out of the desert league in the playoffs okay and I had studied the bracket and the playoffs so much I knew it inside and I was ftic about I didn't let anybody else know that I didn't let my kids know that cuz I didn't want them to focus on all that minutia I wanted them to focus on playing but we'd be on the bus and someone would say well how many pitches did you know uh someone from Pro I'd say he threw 86 he threw 430 through 86 pitches he'd had seven strikeouts and four wild pitches and they'd be like okay whatever you know cuz and I didn't get anything done at my job for 3 years cuz all I did was look at Stats and I cled things out okay I was I was OCD fanatical about it but here's the thing when we lost the Moa here on this field right here and we were having our team meeting after the thing out there in right field up by a bullpen you want to know what I told him and it goes 100% in line with what Hoover is talking about tonight you want to know what I told him I said hey I want everyone to stop what they're doing right now and look at me I said if we're going to accomplish our goal of getting in the state tournament we're going to in the region tournament we're going to have to go on the road we're going to have to win one or two hard games against both City against Moapa against perum we're going to have to clutch up and do it because we lost this game by five runs Moapa has the tiebreaker over us and we're going to have to go down there in the region tournament and we're going to have to win one or two games on the road in order to accomplish our goal of winning the state tournament or getting the state ter okay and then winning it so right then and there this is probably 25 30 days before the region tournament started at least two or three weeks okay but right then and there I said everyone stop right now visualize going to Boulder City and beating them visualize going to prump and beating them visualize going to M and beating them cuz it's going to come down to one of those few teams we had I knew we had to at least go on the road and win at least one game okay and I want and I asked them I said every night between now and the reasion ter I want you to visualize for 5 or 10 minutes every night going down to each one of their schools visualize their fi visualize their players their pictures everything about it and visualize coming out the success and beating those team so that we can qualify for the state tournament okay do you remember that absolutely and you want to know what we did you guys you guys don't know what we did it was the best it was the best day of baseball in my life okay and I've had a lot of days in baseball life too so and you had a lot of baseball days in your life absolutely that to me cuz we were the underdog we you know they they had two pictures that both be us it was awesome really good pictures and it was like our chances of doing that were 5% yeah and those kids came out and K office fan okay crushed and then we came back against Boulder City and had to come from behind you were down come from behind to win that game and and I I agree I've coached a lot of games a lot of times that was one of the best days in baseball seeing kids compete I've ever been involved in it was something else so just for those just real quick for those that weren't there don't know about this because not many of you know about it because you don't you care about high school baseball as much as I do but we we were in the losers bracket and we had to go to bowler City's field and we had to play moaa beat them and then beat Boulder okay both of them had their both of them had their best Pickers going moop had the Staley kid Tyson Staley and uh bowler had the render kid who threw 90 mph is a UT Tech I think now but anyway we we faced both of their best pitchers on Boulder City's field on the road and we beat them both and to this day I promise you it's because 3 weeks before that we required them I asked them to visualize going there and doing it I put it into we put it into their minds to do it to get yourself comfortable with the idea of of going down and beating someone on on their field and we did it and and I'm supremely confident because we started talking about it right then and there so the visualization the visualization the selft talk all that stuff is extremely valuable and it can and just like who said you can't explain it but it works and it works wonders so I would challenge you guys I mean if if if you guys be mo by a lot of points it'll be the one SE going in you have home field advantage in the region tournament but if you don't or if you beat him by a Slimmer margin you may have to go on the road too and I don't know all that coach told will tell you what she wants to to do but I would start right now starting to visualize you know those those outcomes and so that it can be successful on on the back end so anyway you inspired me I wanted to say good nice very ni thank you yeah you guys takeing care of your bodies EA right good sleep all that important I think we can
