Mark Ong's Transformation: Banker to Entrepreneur

Can I do this? We have questions like that. Will my clients still go to me?

Will they trust me? Hey, I have a purpose in life. Not just managing a bank, or selling, handling operations, money of people. It's more than that.

I need people to be my instrument to change their lives. Because I will stop. If I'm in a situation where I'm not sure, I will be sure.

Kapag in pain ako, kapag nagagalit ako, mas nanggigigila ko. Dating taga-bilang ng pera ng bangko, pero ngayon, binibilang na ang kanyang sariling pera. So today, we are going to talk about a person who's a former banker, now a successful entrepreneur, and an inspiring team leader of Diamond Supreme.

Let us welcome, no other than Mark Nino Ong. Hi, Mark! Hi sir, good morning.

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, depending on the timeline. It's an honor to be here, sir. We're actually fans of your TikTok videos. Thank you. It always comes out on FYPN.

We're an avid fan. So it's an honor to be here with you. Wow, Mark.

Thank you so much. How old are you right now, Mark? I'm 33. You look like you're 32. I know. One year.

Sir, can you please give us a background about your upbringing? How many siblings do you have? I have one sibling. We're actually 12 years apart. We're very close as a family.

So, we're just four. My mother, my stepdad, and my brother. Okay. My brother is very spoiled to me. Because I'm like a child.

We've been together for 12 years. So, you're more of a child? Yes. Okay, okay. As a family, we're very happy.

He's small, but he didn't go through that much. Growing up, what was your background? You came from a challenging financial situation or you're okay with it?

I would say middle. I had to be a scholar all throughout my studies. Why?

Because we only pay for the miscellaneous fee because I wanted to study in a private school. So all throughout my high school, my college, I was a scholar. I'm very proud to be a scholar, modesty aside.

But I'm very happy that I did that because I gained the discipline that I needed in life because of that. Hmm, oh my, we won't be classmates. You know why?

Why? I got a grade 6 four times. Oh wow! So you became a scholar and then when you were young, what was your aspiration? What was your dream?

When I was young, I was a graduate of mass communication. So I really wanted to do what you do, sir. Host, speak, that's what I really wanted to do.

When I was young, that's why I took mass communication and I aspire to be seen on TV. That's why I manifest what's happening right now. And what's happening now, imagine, the manifestation really works. I used to just watch you guys because I saw your financial advice.

Even when I was a banker, I was already watching you. So now that you are interviewing me, it's really a great privilege by the way. I just want to say that.

And before, when I was young, I really wanted to be successful. I was very competitive. So when I was young, I graduated in Salutatorian, I graduated in Maniacum Laud.

So that was my challenge and I was able to achieve it until I got a job. So where is your strength in being competitive? It has a strength. It has a strength. Yes.

I also saw my family before that... Sometimes, the electricity is cut off. Where? In the area of Cabalatuan.

I see something outside, but I can't understand what it is. Until I grew up, I understood that it's like that. I don't want my family to experience that situation. That's why I really worked hard. I always think that I'll just get better if I'm with my child.

Whatever I do, I should put more than 100% as always. I remember the electricity. Have you ever experienced that your accountant is being turned down? Yes, I have.

Because I can relate with that story. We were in Tondo. It was very hard.

We had no money. You would really talk to him not to turn him down. I was even beaten.

But it was nothing. Well, anyway, so that was your weakness that's why you became competitive? Yes, very competitive. Okay. In life.

Sometimes, it's harsh on yourself. Yes. So, we're...

Both are parents because you're a Hongkai. Are you Filipino-Chinese? My dad is a Chinese. And then mom is Filipino.

Mom is Filipino. You graduated. After graduating, what was your first job?

I graduated and became a banker right away. I started as a management trainee because I graduated from Manila, Cumulon. So I was hired as a management trainee of a company, of a bank.

And yeah, I started there. And then I worked there for six years. Wow.

And then I became a banker. I'm a branch manager of a bank at the age of 24. At a very young age, we were already in a situation like that. And yeah, we learned a lot because of customer service.

You manage a team there. You manage the elderly there. It's a mix of all feelings.

My branch is one of the biggest branches that time in our area. What area is that? Manila area. Would you say because of your competitive... spirit.

Kaya nga you were one of the youngest, I do believe, branch manager in the bank. During that time po, yes. So na-question is, since successful ka, six years ka dun, what made you choose another route and another career?

Napagod po ako. Napagod po ako. Tell us, buhay-buhay bankero. Buhay bankero po, papasok po ako ng halas 7. Bubuksan po ang branch. And then, siyempre pagpasok mo, i-open mo yung branch mo, yung team mo.

So, you're a good person. you explain to them what the goal is for today because I don't just manage operations but I also manage sales. Sales, yeah.

So both of both worlds. So you are in charge of the whole income of that branch. So I launched at 4pm and I returned at 9pm and then I went back in the next day. It's very fulfilling because you meet a lot of people. Aside from that, you have goals that you need to hit.

There are imbalances, compliance issues, and audits. In short, we're managing. the money of the people so we really need to take care of them as well guys who can relate to the story of Mark? imagine you are the first man in and you are the last man out yes again it's fulfilling because you achieved it but it's tiring so what's your breaking point that you said i think i have to choose another career? That was my turning point.

I said, this is not good anymore. I'm stressed. I'm not happy anymore.

I'm not confident about myself anymore. And so, pimples and all, my health is also falling. I don't have time for my family.

I think that was a turning point that I realized that, okay, it's time to go. That was my turning point. Wow.

So now, this is it. Of course, when you go out, The first blessing that God can give us is the day that you were born. The second blessing that you will receive from the Lord is the day you discover your purpose.

So, can you share with us how you discovered your purpose and mission in life? Well, I discovered my purpose now that I'm leading a team of financial advisors. It's nice to feel knowing that you've touched the lives of those around you in a positive way.

It's nice to feel that you're a part of the... Influencia and wisdom to the people around you. I think that's my purpose, to help other people. That's your purpose, right?

It's not just to earn money, right? It's to help others. Is that right? Yes, but more than the money, it's really adding value to people.

So guys, have you experienced that too? Of course, it's good to earn money, but it's also better to help others while you're earning. If you can relate, please type relate in the comment section.

And then, how did this help you understand your purpose? Has it influenced your career decisions and life decisions? It influenced me in such a way that I shared my peace of mind.

Of course, they grew. I saw that their lives changed. And that time, I realized that this career is for me. Because I realized that I have a purpose in life. It's not just managing a bank or selling, handling operations, money of people.

I have a purpose in life. It's more than that. I need people to be my instrument to change their lives.

I believe in what you said about purpose. Success without a successor is a complete failure. So let's talk about your personal success in defining your purpose. You left your job, a good paying job. When you transferred to your new career, to your newfound purpose, did your salary match?

It was more than. It was more than immediately. Immediately?

Immediately. Yes, it's more than a good. This is the fear of most regular paying jobs.

At least, it's guaranteed. There's no risk. Do you have a fear that you might not be able to earn what you used to earn? I have a fear. I have a fear immediately.

When I transferred and jumped into another career, I was like, can I really do this? We have questions like that. Will my clients still come to me? Will they trust me?

Because I'm no longer in the position that I used to be. I have a fear but I told myself, if I want, there's a way. If you don't want, there's a reason. Yeah. So you just gotta push for it because at the end of the day, You versus you.

You know, guys, while I'm listening, I can see myself in you. Number two, I'm really so inspired and motivated already. So, let's talk about amount, right?

Not specific, numbers. During the time you were in the bank, did you have six digits of income? Yes. So, when you transferred to your new career, So can you please show us the progression?

Of course, I didn't get paid immediately. I really worked hard for it for like three months. And then, I wanted to travel. I was already in Europe at that time, so I didn't want to go to Europe. So that was my motivation.

That's why I got it done immediately. So in my first month, I had five digits. We had five digits.

20,000, 30,000. Yes, something like that. And then, come third month, that's when I got six digits. Wow.

Because I get angry. When I'm in a situation where I'm not sure, when I'm in pain, when I get angry, I get more angry. So that's why I said, this motivation is possible.

When you get angry, you just need to be in pain to get angry. So there were instances like that during that time when I was starting. Guys, you really should get angry at situations.

You must hate. Yes. You know one thing I've learned in life? What you hate in life, you will change.

What you tolerate in life, will never... Will never come. No, will never change. I will never change.

Because you're in a comfort zone. Yes. So, you've reached six digits on the third month. On the third month. Yes.

Did you reach seven? I reached seven on the sixth month. Yup.

We already have seven. Oh, boy. Sir, it's a good thing that you're aside. Wow! Yes.

Seven digits. Yes, seven digits. That's a good thing. Okay.

So, what are the benefits that you got aside from the financial aspect? You know, sir, I'm very recognition-savvy. I really want to recognize what I'm doing. When I first entered, my God, it was like a...

may isa ka lang na na benda parang uy may may pag ganito na may papay pa breakfast na may pa something na so sabi ko maganda tong karirim na to gusto ko yung recognition grabe po kaming i-recognize ng mga ng company grabe po yung binibigay na benefits for us number two yung travels po thank you lord thank you lord na lang po talaga sa mga travels na napuntahan ko because of my company right now and i really am very grateful po with all the blessings to be honest po up to four seats that you can get from each travel and you can cash it if you can't that time. You can get it with your dog. Yes, you can.

Yes, you can. So, in other words, it's not just money, it's really about fulfillment. Yes, it's about fulfillment.

And the recognition that you said, Guys, while you're watching this, honestly, I was also in sales. There's also competition, awarding recognition, and so on. So, while I'm listening to you, I can really, I'm looking at a mirror and reading my own personal life. You're chasing after your income, not your income. You're just chasing after your ability.

When you see a market on the stage, you can also do that. Yes. And then, you can travel, right?

Sir, when you gave a speech, when I gave a speech at that time, it was nice to feel it because I just watch the people who have given speeches in front of a lot of people. I said, one day, I will also be inspired by many in a big event. And true enough, after one year of being in the company, I was able to be the Rookie of the Year during that time. So, it was a blessing that time.

Were you discouraged? Were you tired? I was not allowed to be tired. There were times.

I get traumatized, discouraged, I get, Hey, it's a goal again, it's a new month. But you know, I'll just cry for one night. And then the following day, I have to get up because I have a responsibility to my team.

It's very unfair that I'm selfish. Because there are a lot of people who are dreaming in the team. So I have to dream with them.

That's why it's not hard because there are a lot of people who dream with me. So that's the good thing about our job. This conversation is so annoying. Okay, I'll make this interview difficult.

I know. I'll make this interview difficult. Okay, here.

Define passion for me. Passion. Yeah.

Passion is something that gives you the peace of mind. Passion is something that ignites your heart. It's not just about what you can get, but what can you give for others.

Because that's passion for me. It's not quantified. Your heart should cry if you don't get it. That is passion for me. Sir!

Wow! You know, guys, this is so deep. So deep.

The common answer I hear about passion is something you enjoy doing. Something you love doing. Something that excites you.

Something that wakes you up. But it's the opposite of what you're saying. But you know, Mark, that's the true definition of passion. You want to know why? Have you watched the movie Passion of Christ?

It's a crucifixion of Jesus Christ. When you say the Passion of Christ, that was a time when Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane and was praying. He was about to be the sacrificial lamb and sacrifice for the sins of the world.

And then he prayed, he said, Lord, please take this cup of suffering away from me. He knew how painful the death would be. But God the Father said, the reason why I send you is for you to become the sacrificial lamb so that mankind would be saved. His ending is, He said, Not my will, but your will be done. So what true passion means, the passion of Christ is this, is the ability to do something even if you don't feel like doing it.

That's what you said. That's amazing. Can you recall a time where your passion for your work led you to a significant achievement and breakthrough because of your passion for what you do?

Yes. I think when I got promoted as a branch manager. I think my passion brought me there. Because I've had failures.

I've had failures in life. Life is not perfect. I've had my lowest of lows. And I think that's what brought me to where I am today. I use pain as a powerful tool to really level up.

And that's what brought me to the promotion to branch manager. Is it hard to become a branch manager? It's hard because there are a lot of requirements to hit it. I'm not sure. There are people who need to be there for you to be able to get there.

And we have our own parameters to get there. Wow. Yeah.

Wow. So, this is the question. Because sometimes, other people can be excited and passionate for a period of time.

Mm-hmm. But how can you maintain and sustain? Right? Aren't you... This is the word.

Burn out. Millennials are our main focus. They burn out. They burn out.

They burn out many times. But you just have to go back to your core. Like for me, my family. I just go back to them, talk to them, you know, and release the tension, the stress that I feel.

And they will understand me. They are the ones who know me better. That's why when I go back to them, when I come back, I can go back. It's very simple.

I don't need to go on vacation. I need to come back to my core. Which is my family.

Whenever you're rejected, you fail in your business, in your career, you know the one that can really sustain your passion is when you go back to your why. Why are you doing it in the first place? And then it goes back to what you said.

You're doing it actually because you don't want to be poor again. Yes. Am I right?

Yes, that is so true. I want to give the best life for my family. That's why you're listening and watching this.

It's not an accident that you're watching this. If you feel like that you want to give up with your career, with your work, with your business, with your profession, and nothing happens, I suggest you go back to your why. Because your why will reignite, will rekindle, will reawaken. Your passion.

Again, I repeat, passion is not enjoy what you're doing. It's the ability to do something even if you don't feel like doing it. So, because you found your purpose in life.

Your purpose is not just to earn money to help other people. And then it became your passion, right? Again, your passion, even if you don't feel it, you're doing it.

The ending of this is productivity. yes agree yes you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you Sometimes it's 8 o'clock, sometimes it's 9 o'clock. But I make sure that I do deep work.

It means three hours of deep work, continuous work. And I really focus. That's how I do it.

I also pass on the baton to my teammates so that I'm not alone. I have core leaders who are upcoming unit managers in the team. And I pass on the baton. I want them to learn also.

I want them to be leaders as well and eventually lead their own team. So that's easier actually to do. You're not just a one-man team because you have a lot of people with you. Our values are really love, trust, and respect in the branch.

So if you have those values, you're family. Okay, what's love? Love each other.

Love each other no matter what. And then trust? Trust. Trust each other no matter what.

And then? Respect. Respect each other.

No matter what? No matter what. I feel like I'm going to get involved in this. I'm so annoyed.

Okay, so right now, because of your... core values, I want to see results. Because ultimately, you can tell stories.

But what are the results of other team members? Can you cite me one story of a team member who was in a difficult situation, but they found their purpose, passion, and they became successful. I can cite Kenjo. He's one of my unit managers.

Their life was very difficult as a family. They lived in a small apartment. And then now, his life changes so much. How? As in, all his dreams came true.

Almost all of them. He bought a car, he bought a condo. He's earning 7 digits. A month?

Yes. Not a month yet, but he's already there. Right? 7 digits. So, 6 digits a month.

6 digits a month. And then, now, he's giving more time to his family, his partner. So, I saw the changes, his growth in his thinking. He's different.

He used to be immature, but now he's very mature. How old is he? He's 26 or 27. When did he start?

    1. So, he's only 2 years old. Yes. Wow.

He's a manager already. Sure, I'm a 3-year branch manager. So, I also teach them that just do well in the business. Give it a year, then it will change your life, definitely.

This business you're doing, how do you relax when someone is listening to you? I don't have any capital. I don't know anything. How can I do that? You don't have any capital at all.

You just have to be licensed. And then, you just have to take the exam. The exam itself is, you know, you don't have any capital at all. You only have a small amount of capital. And you don't need a million or hundreds of thousands or five digits.

You don't need that to really try it on. And we will help you out. I think that's the best thing about this business.

We help each other out to be... successful. How can I be shy? I'm too shy.

I don't even talk to myself. Wow. We have a lot of team members who started like that. They don't have a sales background. One of them said, Oh my, how can I become a financial advisor?

Sometimes you ask, but now I'm a top agent. Yes. So even if you don't have a sales background, even if you're shy at first, we will bring out the best in you.

Because that's our promise in the team. to bring out the best in them. So right now, for example, there are people listening and watching right now, they want really to become productive in life, right?

So what advice can you give so that they can become more productive in their personal and professional life? Maybe I'll quote my mentor. He said, Decide once, manage daily.

So if you want something to happen in your life, if you want to be productive, you have to decide for it once. Whatever it is, Your decision should be made every day of your life. You do it.

Decide once, manage daily. And just look for mentors. Just look for something that will ignite your passion. Because it will come back to your big why. Why are you doing all these things?

And after a while, you'll see that it's your habit. And it becomes productive. The result is productivity afterwards.

That's great. Everything that happens in life comes in a moment of decision. In your opinion, this is the only question.

Listen to my question, if both of you have the answer. How long is the turning point of your life? From a banker, you earn well, but you're stressed. But now, you're here, you're happy, you have thick hair, you don't have a beard. I'm already gluta-dripping.

Thank you. So, how long do you think is the time that you have transitioned? From that point to this point, what do you think? It's a work in progress.

It's not an instant thing. It's a progress. For me, it took me around two years for me to realize what I want and what I'm worth.

It took me two years. But I might be too harsh on you. I know.

It didn't take you two years. It's not two years. It took you a moment of decision.

Yes. A moment of decision. sabi mo na ayoko na ito. I want something better.

I know. That point of decision, yung sinabi ng mentor mo eh. And then from that moment of decision, yung everyday decision mo, yung small things, yung decision na be consistent, yun na naging habit mo. Yung two years process, yan ang habit. But it didn't take you two years to decide.

Pag sinasabi mo two years to decide, ginagawa mo, hindi mo ginagawa, ganun ka, dili-dali. No, you made a decision. It's a point of decision. Guys, while you're listening and watching this, probably this is the message for you. You're not yet deciding.

Why is your financial life still like that? Why are you stressed? In your financial situation, in your career, in your profession?

Because you haven't come to a point of decision. And once you make a decision, this is what I realized. It's not...

Based on feelings and emotion. Because when you make a decision based on feelings and emotion, it will disappear. Exactly.

How can it disappear? You'll go back to the past. When you say a decision, it's a commitment and it's a choice.

Yes. Agree? Yes. We'll go back to the past.

You have to implement. Once I made a decision, I have to implement the principle of passion. Even if I don't feel it, I'll do it. So right now, what would you give as an advice to someone who's watching right now, who's still searching for purpose, they're feeling lost in their career, in their life?

To all who are watching today, tonight, I just think that if you are going through something, I've also been there. I've also had failures in life. I've also had some decisions that were wrong during my time. you're having a problem now, just go back to your core, talk to yourself. What do you want to happen in your life?

And then from there, okay, Mark or whoever you are, talk to yourself, okay, this is what I will do. And then day by day, even if it's hard, go back to your core, talk to yourself, and then you will see yourself doing it, and it will become a habit. And then eventually, it will be a very, very good result because you wanted it to begin with.

Guys, guys, guys, ito ah, oo, bago ko i-close to, I'd just like to ask, oo, kanina pong po kinikwento, ano ba tong karir na ito? Diba? Paano kayo nabago ang buhay nyo?

So, what business is this and what are you doing right now? now and again I go yeah I'm a very proud branch manager of diamond supreme branch under a pro-life UK and we're securing lives we're empowering people we're giving opportunities to a lot of people to also become financial advisors mmm so many more power than the kick in a cat man on the moon who might be interested to be part of your team how do they get in touch with you yeah I just have to contact of course I have my social media accounts I have my email address I have my email address I have my email address I have my email instagram and tick tock accounts that's at mark on official and um of course we also have a uh instagram account that's diamond supreme dot true life uk and of course we also have true life uk um business accounts we have facebook instagram and i guess they also have tick tock account and their website as well guys uh thank you very much thank you sir You know, sometimes, I don't want to flatter Mark, but sometimes I'm really impressed by the people. And I would consider you are one of the top.

Thank you. I'm embarrassed. Not because of anything, because I can relate with this story.

And I know that while you're listening and watching, you can relate to this story. That's why I just want to encourage you right now. You know, if you're still lost, please, I repeat, the first miracle that can happen to your life is the day that you were born.

Second miracle is the day you found your purpose. Don't get busy in life. Know your purpose in life first.

Find your calling in your life. And the best thing is this, if you have found your purpose and calling in your life, you don't have to work for another day in your life. Why? Because...

Even if people do not pay you for what you're doing, you're willing to do it for free. And the best part, like Mark, like me, I do this because I want to. I want to share inspiration, motivation, information to help people to become wealthy and debt-free. I believe that I can help people to solve their money problems.

And this is the best part. You're enjoying it already? You're still getting paid. Right? Yes, sir.

That's true. Find something that you love to do in your life so that you don't have to work for another day in your life but you get paid for what you love doing. Thank you very much and I hope that you got inspired in our session of ours. If you like more stories like this, please type it in the comment section.
