Closure of the Bankstown Line for Sydney Metro Conversion

[Music] the banks Town Line a Hot Topic over the recent few weeks as it's set to close in just a number of months to be converted to Sydney Metro services to extend from the existing Sydney Metro City Line down towards sydon then to be extended on towards bankstown this means converting an 120y old train line down towards bankstown now let's rewind back to the beginning Why is the bankstown line being shut well a few years ago the government announced that they were going to extend the Sydney Metro down towards bankstown that means a brand new driverless Railway system running on an already 120 plus year old train line and from that day onwards people have been complaining about the extension of the Sydney Metro between syum and bankstown for years now a lot of people complain about why the Metro shouldn't have just ended at cdam or why it shouldn't have gone somewhere else the bankstown line is set to be shut between sdam and bankstown in a number of months for the conversion to Sydney Metro services that will take a year for them to convert the line over to Sydney Metro Services thankfully a lot of the time taken to make that happen has already occurred with several shutdowns Spann throughout several weeks amongst the past few years we'll first start off with going along the line as just the other day I took a ride between sdam and up towards Canterbury so what I'll be doing is I'll show you all some of the works being completed between syum and Canterbury the first thing you'll notice is this new fence to separate the rail line between the freight line allowing for more Security on the City metro extension then on the left you'll notice this new cycle way this is a cycle way that will run between marrickville and bankstown allowing for people to use cycles and even walk or run along the cycle way along the bankstown line when it closes this is very similar to what is seen on the parameter light rail the next thing you'll notice at all Stations between bankstown and sdam is that there are these new Gap filler type things this will be where the platform screen doors are because of the curved platforms the way to allow for the level access boarding and to have no Gap is to have these Gap fillers the way it will work is that they'll extend out when the doors open we then work our way down the line towards dich Hill which has received one of the biggest upgrades between and bankstown this includes a new foot Bridge connecting the Sydney Light Rail L1 line to the train station I find it quite interesting how there is none of the special uh fences that were installed further along the line here at delich Hill I wonder if they will end up installing them there although I do kind of hope they don't as it is a great spot for Freight spotting let me know in the comments below if you have any information on the fence installation at D Hill as we leave D Hill station I'm reminded By the Light Rail line located in the distance over there that is the L1 delich light rail line that runs between delill in the city thankfully that line is obviously being kept and will be a good interchange for Metro passengers in the future this train will stop at hon Park and as you heard there we are on our way into hilston Park Station another station that has received a fairly major upgrade it consists of the existing Gap fillers at marville and Del chill as well as a new set of stairs on both platforms and lifts one thing I forgot to mention is that every station on the line will become accessible with lifts another very interesting fact about hson Park is that it's one of the only stations in New South Wales that still has the original City rail seats as seen here one other thing is that a lot of the stations on the line are receiving these new seethrough sort of fences which definitely make it harder to Freight spot let me know what you think of those fences in the comments below we then make our way into Canterbury station where I'll be taking a ride in the new lift as well as taking a quick look at what's been done at Canter station a little tip if you're keen on where the new screen doors will go is take a look at these lighter blue colored tactiles which are located on the already existing tactiles you also notice this little gray line above the yellow line This is where these new Gap fillers and where the platform screen doors will go and unfortunately at the moment I haven't recorded a full train journey between bankstown and sdam however a good friend of mine Phil from city trains Vlogs has so on the top right of the screen now is a link to his video on a train journey in real time between bankstown and syum make sure you check that out after watching this video I will however not be talking about the rest of the Stations between Canterbury and bankstown although I will be talking about bankstown station as it's called quite interesting what they are doing with the new Metro extension coming soon so the way bankstown station will be built is that they are planning to have the Metro platforms built on the opposite side and as you can see in this video here you can see Metro platforms already being built when you pass on the Sydney trains one thing is also that the platform for the existing train station will be shortened meaning that only four Carriage trains or even maybe six Carriage trains can at the station so the reasoning for the platforms being shortened at the existing bankstown station is due to a new pedestrian Plaza set to be built in between the two new platforms uh this means that there will be pedestrian Plaza blocking off the Metro platforms from the cdy train platforms definitely think this is probably a good design choice just to not confuse passengers and show that it is a bit of an interchange sort of station um but I am wondering if they are going to allow passengers to travel to transfer between uh the each lines at all systems I should say without having to tap off and then tap back on again or you will have to tap off and tap back on again so it'll be interesting to see what happens there but part of the platform will be shortened to allow for this new pedestrian Plaza the line that will run on Sydney Train's Network once the line is closed between bankstown and sdam is the new T6 bankstown shuttle or what I call the T6 poop line cuz it literally is the color of poop but anyways we are expecting to see 4 Carriage trains run on the line every 10 to 15 minutes backwards and forwards we are not expecting 8 Carriage trains however especially due to how short the platform will become at bankstown and how they are not expecting many passengers on the line and the final thing to top it all off is the new Southwest link bus route this will be formed of three bus lines known as the sw1 S sw2 and sw3 lines as seen on the screen here and they will form as a bus replacement route for the bankstown Line This is similar to what was ran on the EP chatwood Rail Link a few years ago when that line was closed if you're keen on hearing more about the Southwest bus link route and want to learn more then check out my video on the top right of the screen where I discuss further into detail on how the Southwest link will work and finally I thought I'd give you all a little bit of a bonus clip at syum this was filmed a few days ago and this was during Metro testing since the official trial running has began meaning that Metro Services run all day exactly to timetable um so this is one of the Metro trains sitting at syum and uh here is it departing from the station closing its doors and leaving the Station train closing [Music] and that means that in just a number of weeks on Sunday the 4th of August we get access to this brand new metro line running underneath the harbor I definitely cannot wait for this line to open and we'll be making heaps of videos on it one thing I will also add is that I have a secret video coming up soon I've actually been keeping this video secret for about 10 months now as I wasn't allowed to post it it is on a tour of a metro station that no one has ever seen before I get to see the station being constructed and what it's like down there so stay tuned for that video that I made nearly a year ago but it will be re-edited to fit today's standers that will come out in a number of weeks and that sums up the video on the bankstown L closure and how it will work thank you all very much for watching and a massive thank you to Phil from city trains Vlogs for providing majority of the footage for for this video the link to his YouTube channel is in the description below and some of the videos I used as well also a shout out and thank you to transport for New South Wales and Sydney times as I also use some of their footage there as well so massive thanks to everyone who I use their footage from and make sure you check out their YouTube channels I will link them all in the description anyways that is it for this video thank you all for watching let me know what you think about the bang to line closure and let me know if you'd like to see more videos on the bang to line before it closes in a number of months thank you all for watching please consider subscribing and I'll see you guys all next time [Music] n [Music]
