Insights from an Undercover Caregiver Experience

hi I'm Tanner slay a co-founder of 24-hour home care as well as chief operating officer and I'm excited today to do a undercover owner experience with one of our caregivers on the Senior Care division and then also one of our caregivers on disability services division so I can truly get an understanding of what they do on a day to day basis we're going in as a training video so our caregivers have no idea what's gonna be happening here today and I'm shortly going to be getting into this guys [Music] so currently I'm undergoing a transformation as you can see I'm looking quite different from the way that I was looking before excited to finalize my transformation [Music] transformed about to go meet the caregiver and the client for our day with the Senior Care division Karen yes hi I'm Robert hey hi a new caregiver with 24-hour Home Care Mary Mary a pleasure to meet you I'm out here to kind of get an idea of what it's like to be a caregiver how long have you been working at 4:24 um I say I joined for three years and all this Oh career see is awesome but been a caregiver for I say it's almost time now so thanks or whatever I go ahead and buy it for Russell that's how I get away with the vegie some time job and then Peaks us I get away with us spinach or broccoli okay she really doesn't she was no less your broccoli in there you kind of gotta figure it out it's been in the band she is diabetic easy trying to weight a lot of the fatty foods like when we go out maybe out of the month maybe two three times okay cuz she loves McDonald's mm-hmm yeah shut up or undress I will have her sit on the toilet for safety mm-hmm she will hold on to this mm-hmm once it's raining on hold her hand you know walk her in but of course the shower will be on - [Music] vitamins they try to set you up to where you guys can match together okay if you don't want to have to opposite and then it not work out at all like a personality yeah my specialty even when I worked in a facility I were with dementia and Alzheimer's okay so I have the experience so you'll see the ups and downs because not every dementia is the same okay what got you into this Karen and caregiver um I have my grandma home they wound me so I take care of her my grandpa oh you do okay so that's after I'm off for her I go look out after this yeah well it's just always kind of hard cuz official cry oh really alright so I just got done undercover owner on our Senior Care division I got to shadow our client Mary and then shadow our caregiver Karen had a fantastic time I actually got to see their day to day routine got to go for a walk with them got to do some meal prep some medication reminders and overall really more so saw that deep connection between our caregiver and the client and the trust that's really built up there that Mary truly truly trusts Karen with her life excited for the next steps to dive into disability services [Music] I'm excited today to spend my day with one of our caregivers one of our consumers on the disability services side so I am now going undercover owner 24 hi nice to meet you this is that must be righter huh you might need a minute okay yeah baby knows you're coming okay and we'll start getting ready and he knows his routine really well he brushes his teeth he gets dressed we brushed his hair put on shoes and then usually we take a walk and I let him choose what he wants to do it could be going to the park just going for a walk or lately he really likes going to Carl's jr. and getting some french fries and have a little play area there and chewing as part of his therapy right now because up until recently he hasn't really been able to chew food so you know I chopped up his food for him so now they're working on like chewing solid foods so yeah that's what the french fries are for just step by step no an article of clothing at a time okay first you need to turn it this way you need to put your arm this through this hole you know just all the steps just giving it prompts verbal prompts physical prompts whatever he needs okay and you know the more he does it by himself the easier it gets you know just keep working at it plugging at it until he's got it yeah this is still a little challenging for them but we're working on it yeah you want to show him how you put your socks on all the way up you got to get this bird all the way on your toe having consistency gives them security but then too much then they might begin to separate on that particular activity I know that I'm I'm going to be with that child ongoing I might offer for the parents if there's some certain target behaviors or language goals that they're working on in the interest of consistency if they have certain strategies that the behavior behaviorist or the speech therapist is working on with the child I'm happy to follow through on that with them it's not really a requirement of our job but I think it really helps for the child's development tell her his favorite things besides the music and dancing what just brings him a lot of joy yeah he definitely loves dojo boom okay are you sure are you showing him your dance moves consider first if you're a service oriented person if you enjoy helping others if you're an empathetic person if you are able to tune into the needs of others and these are some of the characteristics that the experiences that I've had on the Senior Care division of working with the Senior Care client and also working on the disability services side and really getting to see the provider consumer relationship as well as on the senior care side with the senior and then the caregiver relationship I think it's given me a lot of insight and really opened my eyes up and it's gonna change my perspective on how I deal with things moving forward at the company and hopefully I can bring some of this information back to the company and really relay what it really means to be a provider in a caregiver
