Posing Tips for Men's Photoshoots

One big thing I've noticed that a lot of men have trouble with is posing. That's why today I'm joined with one of the top dating app photographers and in this video we're gonna teach you how you can implement better posing in your pictures to look more attractive specifically for men. Before we get into it I want to introduce you to Jay Harder. Real quick Jay Harder tell them what you do. Yeah man so I'm a dating app photographer What that pretty much means is I specialize in dating photos, specifically working with men.

I've been doing this for about, I would say about two years now. But basically what I do is I help guys look confident. I help them look more masculine.

And at the end of the day, I take photos that get results. And that's why I have him in this video right now. And the first tip we want to give you guys to start posing better in pictures is to implement candid posing within your photos.

All candid means is... anything that's unimposed so whenever somebody's looking at a camera that's a pose but candid is usually when somebody's looking away and you're catching something where it's not an active pose that's all candid means now in regards to candid poses that always always work the first one is a walking candid pose and jihara you do this one quite often with the people you take pictures of can you kind of explain like a walking pose like how that setup would be and how somebody would implement that to look confident Absolutely, man. So I would say the most important thing is to have a really good backdrop.

So you want to make sure that you pick a good location. I recommend any kind of high value location in a nice part of town. But when it comes to the walking shot, one thing that you want to make sure of is that, you know, you feel confident.

So you want to make sure you have good body language. Stick your chest out, shoulders back. The other thing to keep in mind is when it comes to capturing a candid photo, you do not want to look into the camera because when you look in the camera.

It's gonna make the photo look posed. So what you wanna do is you wanna look away from the camera and what I have my clients do is I have them look to a 45 degree angle from the camera. You're gonna look slightly off camera and your head should be positioned at a 45 to the camera.

What works for me, because I've done this many times too, is I stand about, I would say 20 feet away from the photographer. He'll say go, he'll do a whole bunch of shots and I'll walk slowly. Kind of doing what you just said, looking at 45 degrees left, 45 degrees right. When I get closer, I sometimes look in the camera too because, you know, if you can pull it off, you know.

Yeah, I mean, if you got good body language, then it's okay, right? Yeah, left, right in the camera. Mix it up, you know. Exactly. Now, the next point in regards to your hands is you believe the hands should always be doing something right.

Because most guys, you know, they never taken a photo shoot before. They kind of ride to their side, don't know what to do with it. So how would you give advice for a guy to actually do something with his hands to look more attractive? Yeah, that's a really good question. You know, I have a lot of guys ask me, what do I do with my hands?

A good way to go about this is you can start by placing an object in your hands. So let's say, for example, you're wearing a pair of sunglasses. So what you could do is you could take the sunglasses off while you're doing the shoot and just keep this. sunglasses in your hands so just holding an object can really help give you that natural candid look so that's what i'd recommend is just you know pick up some kind of prop whether it's your phone could be sunglasses you know whatever it is even a jacket like a jacket behind the back yeah like if you're wearing a suit that's uh yeah for sure and if they had no props you recommend that they leave one hand in the pocket maybe a thumb out sort of vibe yes yes so always one hand in the pocket thumb out uh two hands in the pocket I don't really like the way that looks so I would recommend one hand in the pocket and just your other hand you can just you know let it naturally hang by your side Now In regards to the clothes and the mindset that somebody should have when it comes to taking photo shoots, I always think of having the James Bond mindset. Like, what would James Bond do if he was taking this photo shoot right now?

And you kind of mentioned something earlier to me about a movie mindset that you tell some of the guys you work with. Can you kind of explain that movie mindset? And maybe that will help with confidence and pose them too? Yeah, absolutely. So what I have my clients do is I have them imagine that they're an actor and they're on a movie set.

So, you know, I... ask them like, how would you stand, right? If you were James Bond, how would you carry yourself? If there was a group of attractive women close by, how would you want them to perceive you?

So that's definitely beneficial when helping you like with body language and really nailing that pose. And the next tip guys is that when you go out on photo shoots, you want to have photo shoots with intention, meaning you don't just go out there and just snap some pictures randomly. You actually do a lot of pre-planning before the shoot is actually done. You have has some sort of framework.

And when you have photo shoots that actually have intention, you're more likely to come off more confident on camera. Maybe you got some posing inspiration. that you found before through searching.

Can you kind of talk about the framework you outline for some of your clients before they actually come to the photo shoot and that will help kind of what they're posing and all that stuff too. Absolutely man so when it comes to dating photos you want to have a combination of different types of shots. You want to have one headshot. I recommend this as your first photo on a dating profile. This is always an essential photo that you want to capture.

With our 9 look package we we give you four activity looks. each look you're going to be doing a different activity. This should, you know, compliment your personality, right? So if you, let's say you play golf, you like to play golf, all right?

So incorporating a shot of you on the golf course would be a great photo to have. And then the last thing is the model shots. Model shots are just pictures of you looking attractive, confident, with good style, right?

So it could be you walking down the street, holding a cup of coffee. So those are the three types of shots that we like to incorporate. A couple other things, dog photos perform really well on the apps. It's been proven. proven that dog photos get 45% more swipes than your average photo.

The other thing is social shots. You wanna make sure that you include a social shot into the mix as well because this is gonna make you look like a cool guy, like you go out, and not like some guy that sits in his mom's basement and doesn't do anything, right? So those are the shots that we like to capture on the shoots.

And speaking about his framework, I'm actually doing a photo shoot with him today. And on my Patreon, I'm gonna be posting a full. behind the scenes look of how the photo shoot actually turns out what locations we do what outfits i pick and how it all goes down so if you are interested in working with jay harder then check out his instagram jay harder photo that's right also if you're interested in seeing my behind the scenes vlog of working with him and how it all turned out definitely be sure to check out the patreon i'll leave a link down below there too alongside with a free pdf framework so that you can implement the concepts that we're talking about talking about in this video for your next photo shoot.

Now lastly I believe the biggest thing and this isn't like a sexy tip but it's to practice. Practice your posing before you actually go out on the shoot. So what I like to do is I'll gather maybe three to five inspiration pictures for posing that I found and then from there I'll just go in the mirror or maybe I'll set up my phone a selfie and kind of pose for like two three minutes a few days before the photo shoot itself and it really does help a ton because at the end of the day practice does make perfect. And the more you practice, the more photo shoots you do, then inevitably you're going to get nationally better at photo shoots.

So would you recommend that people practice? Absolutely. That's actually something that I'm going to start incorporating into our photo packages. It's actually like an online course which teaches you how to have the right body language, facial expression, and also posing. So stay tuned for that.

It's coming soon. That's right because posing is not only your body, but it's also your face too. It is. I work with guys where they'll pose right, but their face is like a...

a resting bitch face or like a brown you never know right all right guys implement all these tips for your next photo shoot once again check out all the links down below if you want to up your photo shoot game especially for dating apps because jay harder right here is the guy to do it be sure to check out the patreon down below also and i'm gonna see you guys in the next video peace
