lady jmichelle Robinson for leading us into the presence of the Lord on this evening again we thank God for all of you that are tuning in live and even by replay we're going to go ahead and get into our lesson on this evening and for those of you that have been following along you know where we are we are still in the Gospel of John we're in the Gospel of John and we're just going through this and and reading this gospel and breaking it down because we want to have an understanding of the Lord Jesus Christ now we understand that this Gospel of John only gives us the three and a half years well the life of Jesus Christ predominantly the three and a half years of ministry that he did on this Earth and we also understand that as we've been talking about this Gospel of John that John gives us a picture of the pre-existence of Christ when he starts off in that first chapter and the first verse 1 through3 I believe it is I believe it goes to the third verse where it says in the beginning was the word and the Word was with God the Word was God the same was in the beginning with God and then he goes to the 14th verse and he begins it say and the Word was made flesh and we beheld his glory as of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth and so we understand that there is a pre-existence of Christ then there's Christ in the flesh and then there's the Everlasting Christ and so we're going through this Gospel of John to begin to get the picture of the Christ in flesh and for the reason for which he came now we've already discussed the fact that the different gospels Matthew Mark Luke John they all give us a different perspective of Jesus Christ and as we were talking about this we understand that the purpose of John's writing of this gospel is to PR present Jesus as the Christ the son of God the Eternal Word who came to reveal God to man and we understand that he begins to uh give us the miracle working power of the Lord Jesus Christ and as we've talked about going through this gospel that Miracles are for the purpose to believe on God to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ Miracles are manifested to reveal the glory of God that we might believe in the one whom he sent the Son of God the Lord Jesus Christ and so we've been going through this and at this point we are up to the 12th chapter and last week we went over the first half of the 12th chapter through verse 26 and so now we're going to pick up on verse number 27 of the 12th chapter and we're going to finish it out by going all the way through verse number 50 amen all right so let's get into this so on last week that first half of the chapter of chapter 12 in the Gospel of John I said it on last week it brings us to a critical turning point because this is the point in time in which Jesus begins to come to the hour of his time of fulfilling the purpose as to why he came in the earth it's a critical moment because it starts off by saying that this is six days this point in time of the beginning of chapter 12 is six days prior to the Passover and so we understand that this is the last passover that he's going to attend and this is the Passover where he will become the Passover Lamb and be crucified and so chapter 12 begins and it's bringing us to the point of about the last week and a half or so week to a week and a half of Jesus's life here in his Earthly body and then so also as we begin to go through this chapter 12 of the first half of it the first 26 verses we begin to see Jesus's triumphal entry into Jerusalem because the people were so excited about Jesus because they had witnessed his Miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead and then they began to spread the good news or the witness of this miracle and many people believed and so when it came time for the Passover many of the Jews went ahead of the time of the Passover or before so that they can go through the process of purification and to prepare themselves for the Passover and many began to question and wonder if Jesus was going to show up so they were anticipating him and when they found out that he was on his way coming they began to to line themselves up in the streets and they began to meet him with palm branches and all those different things and it was the triumphal entry into Jerusalem and he was fulfilling the words of Prophecy from Zachariah that he would come in on a young donkey and so we see that and so Jesus begins to speak more intensely and even more uh purposely about his upcoming crucifixion his upcoming death because now he's to the point of where his hour is about to come the purpose for which he was brought into the Earth he's getting ready to come to that point and so now as we continue in chapter 12 at the 27th verse let's start it says this Jesus starts out and he says in verse 27 now is my soul troubled and what shall I say father save me from this hour but for this cause came I unto this hour father glorify thy name then came there a voice from Heaven saying I have both glorified it and will glorify it again the people therefore stood by and heard it said that it thundered others said an angel spake to him Jesus answered and said this voice came not because of me but for your sakes so we see here again Jesus Christ is now beginning to speak more uh purposefully and intently about his crucifixion that's getting ready to come up and he says at this point his soul is now troubled or his soul is now stirred that that term troubled has to deal with agitation and there other different aspects of it but his soul is now troubled or stirred up on the inside of him you know there's this agitation within him and he says well what shall I say to this father save me from this hour but he says I cannot do it because it was for this hour that I came into the world it's for this cause that I came unto this particular point I was brought here by the father for this particular point and so there's no way for me to say father save me from this hour now this is interesting because he says this at this point and then we know for those of us that read the scriptures The Garden of Gethsemane account where he goes into this anguish of praying unto the father to the point to where it says that he begins to sweat drops of blood and he begins to say father in essence deliver me from this particular hour this moment let this cup pass from me and he gets to the point of saying nevertheless not my will but my will but your will be done so it's interesting that he begins to even feel these particular agitations and emotions within his soul even at this particular point and he already knows that he cannot ask the father to save him from this moment because the father sent him here for this particular purpose but it gives us a picture of how intense the enemy was really coming coming after him or dealing with him because he already declares at this point that that he cannot ask the father to save him from this hour but even as he gets closer to approaching it we'll get which we'll get into later he goes again through this point of AD of this of this anguish of praying unto the father three different times in the Garden of Gethsemane he prays unto him three separate times asking let this cup pass from me but then he says nevertheless not my will but your will be done and so he had came for this particular point and then he begins to sayf Father glorify thy name and when he says this a voice came from heaven and he said I have both glorified it and will glorify it and so the Bible says that the people heard the voice as a sound they heard it as a sound like those who heard Christ's voice to Paul as a sound when Paul when when Paul is on the road to Damascus and it says that a light shines bright and Jesus shows up and begins to speak to him when he gives this account or this testimony of it in um acts 22 and9 and he recalls it he begins to identify that there were those that were with him that heard the sound but could not necessarily distinguish the voice and so the same thing happens here that the that the voice of the father comes forth and they hear it as a sound and so so they didn't they weren't able to hear the distinctions of the words The Voice uttered and so the voice Jesus says came for the sake of the people who were with Jesus to confirm their faith in him so he says the voice did not come because of me but it came for your sake it came for your sake in other words it came so that you would begin to know that it's the father speaking even though you could not discern necessarily the the distinction of the words being spoken you know that it was a phenomenon phenomenon of Heaven the voice of God that it may confirm their faith in him amen amen let's continue verse number 31 it says now is so Jesus is continuing speaking and he says now is the Judgment of this world now shall the prince of this world be cast out and I if I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto me this he said signifying with death he should die the people answered him we have heard out of the law that Christ abideth forever and how sayith thou the son of man must be lifted up who is this son of man so I love this this 31st uh verse and I I've preached this before or I pointed this out in my preaching before that it says now is the Judgment of this world now that term judgment is is very interesting because uh that particular term the English word judgment is translated to various words in the Greek so this particular word judgment when he says now is the Judgment of this world is the sentence passed on this world for refusing to believe so in other words it's coming to a point where now the refusal to believe is basically going to be made evident or be made known the judgment is going to be upon that for those who don't believe in him because he's getting to this point of fulfilling the purpose for which he came and so the cross is the condemnation of all who reject it so those who reject the cross that's the condemnation that comes upon them and so this word judgment I'm pointing it out in this context because it's going to come up again but it's a different Greek word for judgment and it actually means something a little bit different and so we need to take note of that he says now is the Judgment of this world or or in essence now is the time where the condemnation that comes from rejecting the cross because this is what I'm getting ready to fulfill now as that time com and I like this he says now the prince of this world now shall the prince of this world be cast out and so when he's talking about the prince of this world that Greek word is archon all right it's an archon and it's talking about a a ruler a ruler right and so in essence he's talking about Satan and he begins to say the ruler of this world Satan literally the ruler of this world now is the time come for him to be Thrust out or in other words for his author Authority or power that he has over the system of the world to be Thrust out all right and so so this applies when he says the prince of this world this applied to Satan as the ruler of the world system ruler of demons and ruler of the air or the prince of the power of the air all right and so we understand that he's saying now is the time that he should be cast out now I point this out I point this out and I've said this before this is a significant verse for us to understand because when Jesus came into the Earth and fulfilled his purpose of going to the cross and then he went into the grave descended into hell was resurrected and ascended years after this because it became identify that he was the Christ they began to switch in essence time or time switched they identified his birth of course they went back to the time of his birth identifying who he was as the Messiah and they begin to switch time and at the time of his birth it goes from BC or before Christ to ad an Odin or the year of Our Lord or the day of our Lord and so it switches things because now the prince of this world or everything prior to Christ the rulership that Satan in essence had over the world's systems was now shifting and changing see so so Satan being Satan being the prince of the power of the air or the ruler of this world or the God of this world really only means that he's the god of those who choose to obey him or those who are deceived because he really does not have the same power or authority that he once had prior to Christ's coming so now the time where the prince of this world or the ruler of this world should be Thrust out or his authority or his power be now thrust out because now there's a shifting see now let me say this because now now I'm just flowing for a moment I I preached this and I taught this that on the day of Pentecost when the day of Pentecost comes after Jesus Christ fulfills his assignment within the Earth and he is sins when the day of Pentecost is fully come and the Holy Spirit comes now into the world or into the Earth but also into the people it's a picture in essence of now the government of God the authority and the rulership and the power of God now coming into the Earth because the prince of this world has been cast out his his authority and his government has now been cast out his ability to rule in the way that he once did before Christ has now changed and shifted and so we've got to understand that we've got to understand that he operates in deception he's the father of lies and so now he'll make people believe that he still has the The Authority that he had prior to when Christ came and I know the world is is in a place where there's a lot of different things that are you know wickedness and evil that's even coming through the the Airways and the media and all that but he's still not necessarily the ruling power because even Jesus Christ said when he was resurrected all power in Heaven and Earth is given now to me so he has all power and so so he says now is the time that the prince of this world be cast out and then he begins to talk about his death he says if I be lifted up from the earth I uh I will draw all men unto me now there's some uh some thought concerning this if I be lifted up a lot of times we we think of it predominantly about the cross it is talking about the cross but I've seen some other um some thoughts about it of being of him being highly exalted or lifted up or exalted to the place of being at seated at the right hand of the father but we understand that if he's lifted up on the cross because that's the way that he has to go to begin to become that sacrifice for sin that Isaiah talks about in the 53rd chapter we understand that that is uh the sacrifice that had to be made in order for men to be able to come into salvation all right and so if he be lifted up he'll draw all men unto him now we got to understand that in essence this means that he would draw all those who the father has given to him why do I say that because as we've been going through this gospel we see on a number of occasions that Jesus Christ identifies that there are those who have been given to him and he says those who the father has given unto me I will not lose right he says no one can pluck them out of my father's hands or out of my hands and so he will not lose those that are given to him so I would draw all men in essence I would draw all of those who the father has given unto me now this is interesting because then now people get into the the the discussions about well what does that actually mean does that mean that some are not necessarily given to him doesn't the bible say that you know anybody can be saved well the thing is we don't necessarily know who's going to choose we don't necessarily know the father knows because he has seen everything he has seen the end from the beginning he doesn't necessarily make a choice as to who's going to accept or not accept he just already knows who will accept and who won't accept if that makes sense because see a lot of times people start asking those questions like okay so God determined did God determine that this person's not not going to you know receive Christ or did God determine that this person is going to reject or turn away no he just knows he didn't make the decision for him he just already knows what they're going to choose to do and he already knows those who have been given unto Christ okay so so he says I will draw all men all those who the father has given unto him or all those who will choose to receive him and not reject him and so then they begin to say uh the people answer and said well we have heard in the law that Christ abideth forever so so in the reading of the of the the scriptures the old scriptures we've read that we heard out of that that Christ shall abide forever and how sayth thou that the son of man must be lifted up who is this son of man because the Messiah the Christ is going to live forever so if who's this son of man that's going to be lifted up or that's going to die they didn't understand that and so the Christ the Messiah he does abide forever which we understand that he does abide forever we understand that we already know that he has died and has resurrected and ascended to live ever more the Bible says in Hebrews that he's living now uh with the power of an endless life all right so they didn't understand that at the time and they begin to say who's this son of man and the son of man is just simply a reference to the humanity of Jesus Christ to his humanity and his suffering In the Flesh or his coming in the flesh to die that's in essence with the son son of man has to deal with his human nature his humanity and the purpose for which he came into the flesh to die all right so let's continue verse number 35 it says then Jesus said unto them yet a little while is the light with you walk while ye have the light yet lest Darkness come upon you for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whether he goeth while ye have light believe in the light that ye may be the children of light these things spake Jesus and departed and did hide himself from them all right so he begins to encourage them or exhort them to follow the light or follow him as the light while it is among them while the light is in the world follow the light the Christ shall abide forever as we just said Christ does abide forever that's a true statement but he will not always be visible he will not always be visible when he when he departs from them then they'll be left in the thickest Darkness or they'll be left in darkness because now the light of the world has left but what's interesting about that is that Ma is that in the beginning of Matthew the fifth chapter in what we call the Beatitudes or the sermon on the mouth Jesus begins to say that we are the light of the world and even in these scriptures as we get into it he says or as we see right here he talks about be children of light so in other words this goes to this picture of us when we begin to talk about our identity and we begin to say that we are called to be even as Christ was or as he is so are we in this world because he says he's the light of the world which we know he's the ultimate light but now when the light leaves he says now you be the light of the world or be the children of light so we're the ones now that begin to light up the world even as he lit it up now of course he lit it up in a way where he begins to bring us everlasting life and so now we're just the carriers that begin to bring forth that same message that others will receive the light of life that comes from him and so he encourages them to while the light is with them walk in the light lest Darkness come upon you now this is interesting because for the for the those that are ancient those ancient civilizations they didn't have of course our technology and uh the electric street lights and things that we have so when he talks about this Darkness you got to understand that it was something different for them it's not the same as for us when the Sun goes down and it's dark and we still got these streets street lights that begin to light up the street the dark streets in essence were a terror to those who traveled or those who moved in the night it was a terror for those that did that so walking in darkness when Jesus begin to say lest this Darkness come upon you for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whether he goeth walking in darkness or without Christ means that you won't know the dangers ahead of you because for them when he's talking about walking in darkness it's a it's it's a different concept to them now we even know in this day and age um we can have street lights and still some people don't want to walk at at night or walk in the dark or in some areas it's a little more darker than other areas because it may not be as well lit and so even in this day and age there's danger in the potential of doing that but in this day and age it was even more serious so walking without Christ or walking in darkness means you won't know the dangers ahead of you and so safety protection or preservation is in the light or walking in the light and so he begins to encourage them that while the light is here while I'm still here walk in the light lest Darkness come upon you because when you walk in the darkness you don't understand the dangers that are coming ahead of you you don't understand the pitfalls and the different things that are before you so while you have light believe in the light that you may be the children of light and then it says these things spake Jesus at and departed um and did he h he hid himself from them so he spoke those things and he departed and then he begin to to hide himself from them or or go away from them all right let's continue verse number 37 it says but though he had done so many miracles before them yet they believed not on him that the saying of Isaias or Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled which he spake Lord who hath believed our report and to whom ha the arm of the Lord been revealed therefore they could not believe because Isaiah said again in he hath blinded their eyes and hardened their heart that they should not see with their eyes nor understand with their heart and be converted and I should heal them these things said isias or Isaiah when he saw his glory and spake of him now this is very interesting now Jesus had performed so many miracles but despite the many miracles that he did before the people many of them still did not believe in him many of them did not believe in him but the reason why they did not believe or could not believe is is interesting John begins to say here that they could not believe or he says that that they did not believe on him that the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled now that's interesting that is very interesting they could not believe therefore verse 39 therefore they could not believe because that Isaiah said again now he quotes another place from Isaiah first he quotes uh uh chapter 53 where it begins to say uh who shall where he says Lord who has believed our report and whom ha the arm of the Lord been revealed or the miraculous power of God been revealed to the people so he quotes that one but then he also says again in another place Isaiah says that he hath blinded their eyes and Harden their heart that they should not see with their eyes nor understand with their heart and be converted and I should heal them now this is interesting he says that they could not believe because of what Isaiah prophesied so that means that when Isaiah prophesied it was already so that there were going to be a contingency of people that could not believe there were going to be a contingency of people who would not have the ability to comprehend that Jesus was the Messiah they would be their eyes would be blinded their heart would be harded so this had to happen to fulfill what was already prophesy because when he prophesied it it was already so so that's interesting that's very interesting because again it shows us that there are things that happens that are already predetermined there's a predetermination because Isaiah had experienced now now John says this it says he said these things when he saw his glory when he saw his glory and spake of him so Isaiah had Visions in the the beginning of Isaiah talks about the the the vision of Isaiah so Isaiah had Visions the sixth chapter talks about how he saw the Lord seated upon the throne high and lifted up and his train filled the temple so so Isaiah had these visions that God would give him and it's even possible it doesn't say this necessarily in the scripture but it's possible that he even seen in a vision in that 53rd chapter where he begins to write about he was wounded for our transgressions bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him with his stripes we are healed he was led as a sheep you know before the slaughter and all those different things it's possible that he seen the vision of it he seen the vision of it and began to speak these things and so because the prophecy had gone forth it had to be so that there were going to be some that could not believe because he already seen it from the ancient times he saw what was coming in the future even when we look through these scriptures we see that Jesus says on a number of occasions this had to happen that the prophecy or the scriptures might be fulfilled so so that that's very interesting it says Isaiah Saw His glory and spake of him Isaiah saw the glory of Christ the reason they could not they they could not believe was because the prophecy had to be fulfilled because when he spoke he already saw it it was already so now did we know exactly who was going to be those individuals God could reveal it but he just knew there was going to be a group of individuals because he already saw it that they were going to reject him they weren't going to be able to receive who he was so they could not believe so although he did many miracles again Miracles are for the purpose of revealing the glory of God that people might believe so Miracles come to make us believe or to help us believe or to show us that Jesus is the Christ but he did many miracles and there were still those that couldn't even believe it even though he did those Miracles but it was because of the prophecy that was spoken because the word had already been sent out the word had already been spoken or revealed that they could not believe all right let's continue verse number 42 2 46 and we're almost there we're almost to the end it continues it says nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him lest they should be put out of the synagogue for they love the praise of men more than the praise of God Jesus cried and said he that believeth on me believeth not on me but on him that sent me and he that seeth me seeth him that sent me I'm come a light into the world that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness so it just it just told us in the previous previous verses that we read that he did many miracles and there were there were many people that didn't believe him but then it comes over here and it says but nevertheless among the chief rulers there were some there were many that believed him among the chief rulers they believed on him but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him and other other words they didn't like I said they didn't want to get kicked out of the synagogue they didn't want to get put out they loved the position of being among the chief rulers and among the Sanhedrin they love that position so much that they did not necessarily want to openly confess that they were Believers of Christ and so the Bible only mentions two it only names two of those Chief rulers that were Believers in Christ the third chapter it talks about Nicodemus came to Jesus by night and in the 19th Chapter his name comes up again with Joseph of ARA when Jesus is going to be buried he he comes and gets the body so that he can go and bury him in one of his tombs and so Joseph was also a member of the Sanhedrin he was one of the chief rulers so the Two Chief rulers that were mentioned were Nicodemus and Joseph of ARA now those were the two that were named but it says here that there were many others in many other the chief rulers that believed on him and so Jesus begins to make this last discourse and this is his last discourse to the people where he begins to say um he begins to cry out and he says he that believe on me and believeth he does not believe on me but he believes on him that sent me so in other words when we believe on Jesus We Believe on the father or in order to believe in the father you got to believe in Jesus you got to believe him to be the Son of God you got to believe him to be even equal with God as Paul says in his letter to the Philippians in the second chapter where he begins to say that he thought it not robbery to be equal With God all right so who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God but made himself of no reputation taking on the form of man or the form of a servant all right and so if you are going to believe in the father you have to believe in the son Jesus says he that believeth on me believeth not on me only I I'll put that in there doesn't believe on me only but believe on him that sent me and he that seeth me seeth him that sent me so in other words again Jesus said this in another place I and my father are one in other words we're we're we're in sync we're unified we're together I do not do anything that's outside of what my father has given me to do so in essence when you've seen me you've seen the father you've seen the physical natural expression of the father because Hebrew the Hebrew writer which some people believe to be the Apostle Paul he says that Jesus Christ is the brightness and the expressed image of the invisible God so he is the the brightness and the expressed image that word expressed image has to deal with this exact basically this exact representation of the invisible God so in other words when you see Jesus you've seen the father Jesus is the Divine expression the natural expression of the father in flesh and so he says if you believe in me you believe on the father if you see me you have seen the one who sent me you've seen the father he says I have come again as a light into the world that whosoever believeth in me should not abide in darkness all right let's go to the last verses of scripture 47- 50 it says he continues and he says and if any man hear my words and believe not I judge him not for I came not to judge the world but to save the world he that rejecteth me and receiveth not my words hath one that judgeth him the word that I have spoken the same shall judge him in the last day for I have not spoken of myself but the Father which sent me he gave me a commandment what I should say and what I should speak and I know that his commandment is life Everlasting whatsoever I speak therefore even as the father said unto me so I speak so when Jesus begins to talk about um he says if any man hears my words and believe not I judge him not for I came not to judge the world but to save the world in essence what he's talking about is his coming in the flesh his coming in the flesh was not to judge or conem condemn the world but to save the world John 3:16 and 17 for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life for God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through him might be saved so as I was telling you earlier that this particular word judge or when he were talking about judgment when he says I have not come to judge he's talking about I did not come to condemn in my coming in the flesh I did not come to condemn but I came to save the world but I came to save and so he says he that rejects me and receives not my words he has one who judge him in other words he's talking about the father so he says who whoever rejects me whoever hears my words and then doesn't receive them but they reject me the father is going to judge them they have one that judgeth him and then he also says my and the words that I have spoken the same shall judge him in the last day so in other words he saying my words and everything that I spoken when you reject those that's what makes the Judgment your action to reject that's where the judgment is coming in because I've spoke un to you the Commandment of my father so those who who reject Jesus have one who will judge them and his words will judge them on the last day because they are the words of his father who gave him the Commandment of what to speak so it's the father in essence that's going to that that that's that's the one that's going to judge him and his words are going to judge them the father's commandment he says is life Everlasting which means if you reject his words you reject everlasting life and that's the judgment that's the Judgment so if you reject the words of Jesus Christ if you hear his words you reject his words don't re don't receive his words then in essence you're rejecting him and in essence you're rejecting the father and you're rejecting the Commandment of the father and therefore you're you're rejecting everlasting life because his commandment is life and all Jesus spoke was that that the father had given him to speak so when you reject his word you're rejecting him you're rejecting the father and you're turning away or you're rejecting the everlasting life that comes by his words and so this is what Jesus was speaking to the people in his last discourse before we get ready to transition into the next chapter where now he's going to begin to be having more private moments with his disciples with his Apostles specifically the 12 he's going to be having more private moments with them and he's going to be preparing them for which's getting ready to happen as he gets ready to go to the Cross amen amen so that concludes our lesson on this evening John the 12th chapter all the way through verse 50 27- 50 and so that is where we're going to end on this evening amen amen to God be the glory so let's say a word of prayer and then we will transition into our worship and giving and then we will close out father we thank you for another opportunity to come together to go through your word to go
