Why is it called الواسطية because it was written on the request of a judge from واسط,
“بin the name of Allah the infinitely merciful the especially merciful the preface of who the author meaning this is the introduction that is written by the author which author I and how does it begin it begins with the work begins with the basah okay and you see that this is the habit of all Noble authors that when they begin something especially a book then they begin it with what with the name of Allah subhana tala why because this is how the book of Allah begins ald this is how the book of Allah begins and this was also the way of the prophets when he wrote a letter what did he do the prophet sallallah alaihi wasallam when he sent letters what was written at the top the name of Allah why because everything important must be begun by mentioning the name of Allah why mention Allah's name why because the name of Allah is very blessed it's a source of blessing it's a source of goodness and it is also a source of protection the name of your lord is it is full of bar it is a source of blessing how much blessing how much goodness how important is it that when an animal is being slaughtered and Allah's name is mentioned then the meat of that animal will be Halal and if the name of Allah is not mentioned imagine that meat is not allowed for us to eat we cannot eat it look at the difference the difference that happens with mentioning the name of Allah likewise when the name of Allah is mentioned when entering the home can Shan come in no when the name of Allah is mentioned when eating can Shan have a share in that food not at all so where it is a source of blessing it is also a source of protection so as we begin the study of this text we also begin with the name of Allah by mentioning Allah's exalted name why to seek His blessings so that this study this endeavor is a source of goodness for us and as we strive to understand this text we also ask Allah for his protection that we are protected from the evil of Shan Shan has no share not even a little in this effort of ours and we also Say bah so that we can increase in our guidance through this effort because he is whoah who is he Alman Al he is the one who isman who is Alman the possessor of infinite Mercy Alman this is right abundant Mercy the one who is the possessor of vast abundant mercy and he's also Al Al shows action that he affects with his Mercy whom he Wills so Alman shows us the the attribute that he is possessor of abundant Mercy and Alim tells us about the action that he also shows that Mercy to whomsoever he wishes and Alman also shows that his Mercy is General it is am for who the entire creation those who believe and also those who disbelieve those who sin and also those who obey but what does it mean that his Mercy is that on the day of judgment in the Hereafter everyone will not have a share in the mercy of Allah everyone will not not be affected by Allah's Mercy how that for example in Hellfire people will say Oh Our Lord they will say Oh Our Lord they will beg Allah they're showing humility isn't that asking Allah isn't that what does that bring to the servant Allah's Mercy but in that Hellfire will they get mercy no don't even speak to me they will not get what will they get so Allah's is where right now in this dun those who benefit from that Mercy in the true sense how that they benefit from all the blessings that Allah has given including guidance then they will receive his special Mercy in the Hereafter Also may Allah subhana make us amongst those so it is necessary that we understand Allah's so that we can benefit from them before I continue just a small reminder that you see that in this text there are many words that have the meaning the is there but it's not an every single letter so for many people those harat they are understood but if there's any word where you feel that I need to know this when I'm reading the text do listen attentively and mark the okay all praise belongs to Allah who sent his messenger with guidance and the religion of truth that it may reign supreme over all religions and sufficient is Allah as a witness I testify that there is none worthy of worship but Allah alone with no partner fully acknowledging this and affirming this as theed I testify that Muhammad mad is his servant and messenger sallallah alaihi wasallam May ever increasing peace and blessings be upon him and on his family now insh I will tell you the word to word before I do that how much of this text did you understand almost everything which word was new or which expression was new okay and what about the end but otherwise how was it alhamdulillah easy to understand okay alhamdulillah all praise for Allah all praise belongs to Allah Allah is deserving of all praise why because he is theik why else because he created everything when is it that you praise someone when do you praise them when they do something for you okay when they show a favor to you when they are praiseworthy they're deserving of it what makes them deserving okay you love them because of who they are because of the qualities they possess because of the actions that they do so for example a student gets 100 on 100 will he get some words of Praise from the parents and the teachers why because he accomplished something great H so why alhamdulillah why all praise to Allah because he is perfect in his attributes in every way he is perfect in every way all his attributes are perfect all his qualities are perfect his not knowledge is perfect his Mercy is perfect his Justice is perfect in every way he is perfect he is only perfect so we praise him because of his Kamal because of his Perfection and also because of his in his generosity his showing his giving blessings to us in what does in mean to give n to show favor now it's possible that someone is very good very perfect they are very highly qualified they are very knowledgeable okay so what when is it that their knowledge and their High qualification and the fact that they have a big firm matters to you when does it matter to you when they have shown some favor to you H otherwise the richest person in the world who does it matter to you we don't even need to know their name right someone who has five PhD degrees so what but if they become your friend and they show favor to you then would you praise them of course Allah subhana ta'ala he is not just perfect in his attributes he's not just perfect in every way but rather he is also the most generous to who every single creature what is his favor to us how much is his favor to us Allah subhana says whatever you have of any blessing it is from Allah whether it is the blessing of your eyelashes or the blessing of your eyesight or the blessing of your sense of touch or the blessing of the food you eat the air you breathe the family you love the friends whose company you enjoy the knowledge you get so all praise for Allah because of his and his the one who he sent the one who sent his messenger Allah the one who sent his messenger with what bill H with guidance he sent his messenger with guidance as well as and Dean which is Al religion which is Al which is true that is free of any doubt it is true there are many blessings his favors are many on us but which one is mentioned over here the favor the blessing of guidance for which purpose Allah subhana t who his Messengers The Messengers were sent for what purpose for the purpose of guidance which messenger is this Muhammad sallahu alaihi wasallam and before Muhammad saham were there any Messengers that were sent of course and for every nation was a guide the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said Hadith inkari number 3534 my example in comparison with the other prophets is that of a man who has built a house completely and excellently except for a place of one brick when the people enter the house they admire its beauty and they say but for the place of this brick meaning if only this brick was not missing if only this Gap was not there this house would be perfect so what happened Allah subhana wa tala sent the final messenger muham M sallallahu alaihi wasallam therefore perfecting that beautiful structure and he sent him with Huda with guidance and where is this H and where do we find it from where is it contained in where is it preserved in the Quran and the Sunnah why did he send the messenger so that he would make it Prevail is to make someone prevail make someone Victorious who who the of who this is referring to either the dean or the messenger that Allah sent the messenger with the truth and he's going to make his messenger or he's going to make this religion Prevail over what over the religion all of it meaning over all religions Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam the religion of Islam Allah will cause it to Prevail when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was sent did Allah subhana T make his messenger Prevail yes this did happen the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam prevailed over the mush the sahab they prevailed over the enemies of Islam whether it was in the form of false prophets or other existing religions of the time they were given victory how how is this done this Victory how through knowledge through proofs that this religion has been equipped with such proofs with such evidences with such facts that no one can refute it this religion cannot be refuted why because everything is backed up with evidences Allah subhana T told us what we must believe in and what we must do but at the same same time he also equipped us with reasons the reasons the evidences that are solid and firm so that the religion of Allah cannot be proven as false it cannot be proven as harmful secondly he makes the religion Prevail how in the sense meaning even in the practical sense practically Allah has granted dominance to this religion over others yes this victory was given to the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and afterwards also it was given to many and of course this is Allah's promise that he will make this religion Prevail if not in both ways at least in one way and he is sufficient who is sufficient B be over here gives the meaning of definitely Allah he is sufficient Shah as a witness meaning Allah is sufficient as a witness over this fact over what fact go back to the beginning that the messenger he brought the HUD he brought he conveyed it and that he made the dean with proofs and also in the practical sense the mush they said about the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam even today there are those who say oh Muhammad sallu alaihi wasallam you are not a messenger in 43 we learn about this say sufficient is Allah as witness between me and you and the witness of whoever has knowledge of the scripture meaning even though there are people who may say today there was no messenger he was not a messenger people may say that no this religion does not contain guidance it's not the religion of Truth does that matter they're saying their rejection does that carry any weight no because if Allah is a witness to the prophethood of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam if Allah is a witness to the truth of This Dean then whose rejection matters it doesn't matter and also the fact that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam conveyed and this Dean he made it meaning he made it Prevail how that he gave the proofs and evidences so that no one could refute him in any way and he conveyed it fully remember that at did he not ask H have I conveyed and what did the sah say that yes you have what did the prophet sallallah alaihi wasallam say oh Allah bear witness Allah is sufficient as a witness and I bear witness Allah's witness is sufficient but I also bear witness that there is no God worthy of worship but Allah what does this mean him alone there is no deity no being that deserves worship except who Allah alone not any partner who he has he has no partner meaning no one deserves any share of worship with Allah subhana tala all worship is exclusively for who Allah alone and he says I bear witness to this how is to acknowledge meaning I testify while fully acknowledging this meaning I have no doubt I say this with full full confidence full confidence without any doubt do you say this with full confidence do you acknowledge this yourself also or is it just words that we hear then we pass on meaning as one making one meaning that I affirm the Oneness of Allah I say this while fully acknowledging and meaning affirming this as I testify that Muhammad is his servant and his messenger May Allah's blessings be on him and on his followers his family and his companions May Allah's peace be on who on the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam such Tas meaning such Salam such peace that is maid ever increasing meaning more and more Salam more and more Salam on him like for example it may happen with you that you make Dua for somebody may Allah subhana give you a lot of a and then you say and more a and more a it's like as if your heart is not satisfied no matter how much Dua you've made for them you feel like they deserve more Dua so no matter how much and is sent on the prophet sallallah alhi wasallam he deserves even more inshallah I'll explain the meaning of the last part of this opening of the in our next class which will be tomorrow because the time is up but I would like you to quickly read this text to yourself right now everybody together for okay alhamdulillah your homework is that you have to read this text again page number three in your book all right read this practice it if there's any word that the t is not proper make sure you fix it and another homework that I would like you to do is share with at least one person the importance of knowing the names and attributes of Allah subhana tala all right inshallah and tomorrow when I'll give you your group activity one activity will also be related to finding the meaning of one of the words in the dictionary so those of you who would like to get more a please bring a dictionary tomorrow because everyone who looks into the book from your classmates whoever looks into it understands inshallah you will also be rewarded for that okay Arabic to English or Arabic to Udu whichever one you prefer okay subh so alhamdulillah what a beautiful uh you know lesson of today so far so let's uh do this exercise together uh we'll be reading uh the Arabic and I want you all to read along right so is everybody here together with me inshallah okay so we'll be reading small chunks and I want you to read it along okay we'll do the discussion at the end we be reading okay now everybody read it yes everybody I want each one okay [Music] alhamdulillah ald yes everybody okay [Music] good for [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] good we'll be doing the discussion later let's continue our listening so from yesterday's class did you remember anything when you went home was there anything that kept coming to your mind again again were there any questions that you asked yourself as you were worshiping Allah subhana wa taala I used to pray I used to think about the what you were teaching us about so I was trying to recognize what is Allah and what are we doing like we are praying but really we do we really recognize our that's why I was trying to like recall with what you saying it was really helpful alhamdulillah what helped me was constantly asking myself love fear hope that whatever ever I'm doing am I doing this with love do I have fear of Allah subhana tala do I have hope in his reward in his Mercy or is this act devoid of any feeling boring you see when something is done with feeling is it Lively is it meaningful does it make you feel happier and better than before does it lift you up spiritually yes but when something is devoid of any emotion any feeling then what happens it is done and it's over and it doesn't make any difference it's just done and over with h so asking these three questions love fear hope do I have that do I feel that inshallah this will make a difference the thing that coming back to my mind was that uh the point you mentioned that knowing the names of Allah subhana wa ta'ala the moment I start learning about teaching the first thing we are told is learn the names of your students every time you attend a workshop you get a workshop you have to know the name so they put labels and stickers so they call you by name because that brings your relationship to a Next Level now subh we go for Salah and we don't know the names of Allah subh how can that connection be built we spend time effort ideas to learn names of our students our Workshop attendees even 50 but the names are there they call them my name and I was thinking we go to Banks whatever they have their names Al why do they have their names there why do you why do I put my name because calling someone by name is a different feeling and we don't do it Allah subhana that a personal connection can never be built unless and until both people know each other's names and qualities so when it's important to know the name of a student the name of you know a person working at a store even when you go to the grocery store right the tell her what do they have their name tags because it's necessary to know the name Nam of the people that you're dealing with so what about the names and attributes of the one who we are worshiping whom we claim to love the most whom we claim to fear the most whom we should have the most hope in did you think about any connection between love fear and hope why these three pillars why all of these three why not just love why not just fear why not just hope what's the connection between the three of them love it's a motivator right it's prod uses inclination to do what to perform Good Deeds to worship Allah subhana tal more fear on the other hand what does that do it holds us back from disobeying Allah what does Hope do as human beings are we bound to make errors are we bound to make errors as human beings of course do we make mistakes no matter how much we love Allah subhana are there those times when we don't worship him the way we should worship Him hm when that element of fear decreases and as a result we commit sin does it happen of course so then we need hope also hope that it's okay if something has been done go back to your lord seek forgiveness from him that at no point in time can the slave feel despaired of Allah's Mercy at no point in time can a slave feel that the doors are now closed there's no hope for me except after death so love fear as well as hope so let's begin the book yesterday alhamd we went over the and inshallah we will do a quick review right now but before we begin just one quick reminder that when I'm reading the Arabic text make sure that you are writing the Tash and secondly the translation also make sure that you write the translation of any words that you are unfamiliar with because that is what you will will be tested on and if you wish to pass on the information to others then you have to know the translation if you don't know it yourself then you wouldn't be able to pass it on to others either and at the same time also make list for yourself of things to remember things to focus on things to improve all right inshallah so let's begin would anyone like to read the Mad out loud so that everybody can hear [Music] Al all praise to Allah the one who sent his messenger with guidance and the True Religion what does it mean by Guidance that the messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam brought which guidance did he bring Quran Sunnah and what is that essentially knowledge so Huda over here refers to beneficial knowledge and de the True Religion Dean remember it is used for Action the word Dean is used for and it is also used for the reward for an action okay which is why the word Dean many times in the Quran is used for likewise is also used for recompense Dean meaning recompense so over here what does it mean meaning what to do so the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam he brought what first of all beneficial knowledge and secondly the also also as to what is the right way what is the correct way of worshiping Allah subhana tala and this religion which is composed of both and what happened Allah subhana T made it dominant made it Prevail over all other religions and sufficient is Allah as a witness over what over the truth over the prophethood of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam as well as he is sufficient as a witness over what the truthfulness of This Dean and the fact that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam conveyed and I bear witness that there is no God worthy of worship but Allah him alone no partner does he have what does mean to acknowledge meaning I testify I I bear witness to the Oneness of Allah while fully acknowledging this fact where in my heart because it is possible that a person says something and uses big words but he doesn't really mean it so meaning I testify while fully acknowledging this meaning I testify and affirm this as absolute what that there is no God worthy of worship but Allah so basically the reason why the author says at the end is to further emphasize meaning I testify to this while believing in this has certain absolute and I also bear witness that Muhammed s alai wasallam is a servant and his messenger now if you notice over here is being mentioned do you also testify to these two statements what does it mean by shahada what is shahada literally what does it mean to witness h so shahada is basically to acknowledge something with the heart and pronounce with the tongue to acknowledge in the heart and also Express disclose it how with the tongue so for example a person he Witnesses a crime taking place he acknowledges that a crime has taken place he acknowledges this way in his heart he knows that this happened when he will go and testify in the court H he will disclose that information that is what shahada a testimony so remember that shahada is at two levels one is that belief in the heart okay that realization in the heart but it's not just kept there it's also expressed verbally you understand it's expressed verbally so for example when a person becomes a Muslim he believes in his heart but he's required to make the Declaration ation of Faith also declare it so what is it that you can declare what is it that you can speak about something that you've seen something that you know now he's saying I bear witness that there is no God worthy of worship but Allah that only Allah is deserving of worship who have seen Allah no no one right meaning no human being so what does it mean by this then I bear witness I testify meaning I believe in this with conviction in my heart with no doubt I know this I understand this I realize this as a fact and this is why I declare it with so much confidence the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam is described as who who's and who's is referring to who of Allah's servant and Allah's messenger so the prophet sallallahu Al was Allah's servant as well as his Messenger as a servant what kind of a servant was he as an AB what kind of an AB was he okay obedient would you describe him as a good servant or excellent servant the best he was really the best servant he worshiped Allah subhana tala and he worshiped Allah the most amongst all people remember the many times when his feet would swell because of his standing for such a long time in prayer and when he was asked aren't your sins forgiven future and past your sins are all forgiven why do you take it so hard on yourself what was his response as because you see in the Quran he is described as Shakur that he was a grateful servant so it was as though the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was striving to be at that level a grateful servant which is why he never kept behind when it came to of Allah subhana he was always at the Forefront if you think about it at the day of when people are standing they're required to stand and supplicate make Dua the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam how was he making Dua for so long with so much concentration with so much humility that his Shaw would drop and he would not stop making Dua the entire W the entire duration atat he was engaged in making Dua and typically at Haj what is happening at people are usually sleeping or they're eating their Biryani or they're talking H but the prophet sallallah he attained such a high level of servitude so and he was also his messenger what is this word is it a noun is it a verb it's a verb it's a what kind of is it of past tense but remember that past tense is also used for Dua okay it is also used for Dua you know making Dua for someone whether it's a good one or a bad one so for example in the Quran may he be cursed literally is past tense that is also past tense so likewise both of these words are past T may Allah have mercy on him so Salah what does it mean Salah is from Sal what does Salat mean okay to greet what else does it mean when you perform the Salat what does it mean you're praying Salat means prayer because you are a human being and when you perform Salat that means prayer remember that Salat from Allah subhana tala because we're saying here may Allah's Salat be on the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam Salat from Allah it means praise when Allah subhana T Praises a servant he said that Allah's Salah upon the messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam is his praise for him in the most exalted assembly meaning Allah subh praising his messenger amongst who amongst his angels Allah praising his messenger amongst his angels this is Salat of Allah upon Alam now some they translate Salah or Sal as Mercy but remember that it is not Mercy because Mercy is for everybody okay Mercy is for everybody you can say about anyone may Allah have mercy upon them but you cannot say about everyone can you no about any scholar any righteous person you can say but you cannot say why because is something special that is only for those who are special H and what is that Allah's praise for for example his messenger where in the company of the angels and in the Quran also Allah subhana says and are mentioned separately okay so that means Salat from Allah is different from different from R it is different from mercy and remember that in the general sense Salat gives a meaning of various you know good things so this is why it's also translated as blessings many good favors various good favors of Allah may they be upon Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasall and amongst the best of those is Allah praising him amongst the angels and also may his be upon his Al whose Al the AL of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam what does it mean by Al okay family any other meaning of Al followers okay so why is it that sometimes Al is understood as family sometimes as followers does it mean both does it mean one how do we understand this remember that when the word Al is mentioned along with for example are followers okay when it's mentioned along with so then Al refers to family alone okay it refers to who the family alone but when Al is mentioned by itself okay when Al is mentioned by itself then it includes the followers also all right so for example in the Quran we learn about Al Al of what does that include his family his followers why because Fon did not have children right and this is why when they found mam as a baby the wife of Fon insisted that they keep him because Fon himself did not have any children okay so who was the AL ofon it was his followers it was his armies Al of L what does that refer to his followers also all right so May the of Allah be upon the followers of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam also who are his followers those who believe in him and those who truly follow him who truly follow him so imagine if a person follows the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam then is he receiving any duas whose Dua who Dua anybody who sends Salat on the prophet sallallahu alai wasallam because every time someone says every so imagine when a person increases in hisam how much Dua is he receiving from so many people huh and what kind of Dua is that that may Allah praise the followers of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam may Allah bless them may Allah show them various favors may Allah bless them with many blessings then whose praise do we need and whose acknowledgement do we need why should we be seeking the acknowledgement of people his companions meaning the companions of Muhammad sallallah alaihi wasallam meaning those people who met him while believing in him and also died upon that way again Sal it's a verb of past tense but remember this is for the purpose of Dua that may there be Salam of Allah upon who Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam and his followers what does it mean by Sal right Sal to be free from harm and danger right to be free from harm and danger meaning May the peace of Allah be upon him and his followers now on the one hand is Salat and on the other hand is Salam Salat and Salam Salah is the attainment of various kinds of good and Salam is basically to be free from harm and danger so when we're asking for Salat and Salam what are we asking Allah subhana tala for that may he shower His blessings on his messenger and his followers and may He also keep them safe from any harm and danger from any harm and danger may he ward off any kind of evil from his messenger and the followers of his messenger peace that is Maz additional ma what does maid mean it is from Z right that which is added that which is extra additional meaning more Tas added to the Salah even more peace may it be ever increasing may it never end may it never cease may it always be you know for example you make Dua for someone you wish them well and you write words such as always so why because you want that they should forever be blessed even more peace may it be ever increasing and the way that and has been mentioned at the end of this what does it show the love and respect that Islam had for the prophet sallallah alaihi wasallam he had immense love for the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam immense respect for him and that is obvious in the way that he is sending Salat andam on him next page as for after so first I will read the text you can add any T and then inshallah I will translate and then we will look at the meaning as for what follows so this is Creed of the group of the sect the saved the assisted until standing establishment of the hour the people of the and the congregation and it is Faith in Allah and his angels and his books and his Messengers and Resurrection after death and faith in the decree Divine decree it's good and its evil have you heard these words before huh when so inba for example why because at the beginning of any what is necessary that Allah subhana tala his name is mentioned he is glorified he is praised and then peace and blessings are sent upon the messenger sallallah alaihi wasallam also this was the way of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam whenever he would give any address he would first and foremost glorify and praise Allah subhana tala and thus has been the way of those who follow the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam that whenever anything important is to be mentioned whether in a written form or in an oral form what is the proper eth it that Allah should be glorified first peace and blessings be sent on the messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam and then a person should say what he has to and this is exactly whatam has done first the which is known as meaning essential okay is needed and then his own speech so as for what follows so this is this is the Creed this is the from and from is to bind to tie to make a knot all right and where is it that we tie this knot where is it that we make this firm knot where in the heart that when a person becomes firm about something deep in his heart that he believes in it with firmness with conviction all right literally means it's basically a determined Judgment of the Mind meaning such a thing which the mind is firm upon the heart is firmly resolved upon so what a person has determined in his heart so what is the Islam says so this is the Creed of this is the of what is group okay group is from the root letters naat and what does naat mean to be saved so meaning that group which is saved saved from what from deviation saved from Innovation from leaving the Quran and Sunnah no they're saved from this error and such group obviously will also be in the saved from the hell fire in the meaning that group which will attain salvation why because it is upon the H so you understand how is it na how is it saved from error from Innovation from deviation and as a result such people will also be saved from the Hellfire later so an where in and is there any evidence for this yes there's a Hadith which is graded as Hass that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said this um shall be divided dived into 73 sects all of them shall enter the fire except one so the sahabah asked which one is it oh messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam and he replied it is that which is upon the like of what I and my companions are on meaning that group which will be on the same thing which I and my companions are upon meaning the Quran and the Sunnah so Al man from help so man meaning that which will be given help that which will be aided and helped meaning the group which will always receive Allah's help always it will receive Allah's help until when until the hour is established meaning until the day of judgment and there's a question don't we learn from Hadith that the hour will come when the worst people are living on the the Earth so what does it mean by this that which one is the saved group so one interpretation is that is on the individual meaning when the individual's will establish meaning until the time of their death okay and another interpretation is that obviously the beginning of the hour before that will be certain signs Okay so until that time it will be mans who is this who are they before we continue when you read this description the group which will be saved in and always helped by Allah subhana tala until their death or until the establishment of the hour does that make you want something what be part of the group that what is that key because of which a person will be saved in and what is that belief if a person holds he will be saved in who are they have you heard of this term okay what does it mean means people right soah people of the Sunnah meaning those people which are upon the Sunnah which are the followers of the Sunnah those who are agreed upon the Sunnah and they are the people of Jama what does Jama mean congregation when people are assembled together they are together they're not divided all right it's the opposite of division Jama so in other words those who are upon the Sunnah and they are together upon the Sunnah agreed upon the Sunnah and they do not have any division they are together United upon the Sunnah they're not divided up they do not separate themselves from mainstream you understand those who do not separate themselves from mainstream they differ over matters of course the sahabah also had differences H but those differences are not considered fundamental all right they are differences for example in but not in okay and even if there may be slight differences in certain AKA issues still they do not accuse one another of having gone astray like some other people did who did not adhere to the J remember that J does not mean majority okay Jam means what that they are together those who are united upon the Sunnah so this means that there have been people who did not remain upon the Sunnah who left the Sunnah who abandoned the Sunnah who deviated from the Sunnah and when they deviated from the Sunnah what happened they also separated from mainstream they did not remain part of Jama you understand then division happened clear so who are that no matter what happens they remain firm on the Sunnah and they do not leave the congregation they are together so there's two things that are important to understand the importance of Sunnah and the importance of Jama when it comes to the importance of Sunnah what does it mean that theah they take the Sunnah as their source of theology what is the source of AA for us the Sunnah meaning what the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam brought whether it is in the form of quranic verses or it is in the form of prophetic Traditions whatever it may be that is the source is it reason is it intellect logic do we use logic as a source of AA H can we use scientific evidence as a source of AA can we use philosophy as a source of a no say no matter what is new and you know being promoted by people regardless for us our source of theology will always be Sunnah all right because when people use other sources then what will happen they will separate from the mainstream you see he was amongst the Angels was he part of jam initially he was he was given a command and what was that frustrate to Adam what did El do he didn't do s right he didn't take Allah's command as an Evidence rather what did he do he used his reason he said Allah yes your command is there however I disagree with that because I am better than Adam you created me from fire and you created him from clay so the nus the H was there the command was there but preferred reason logic over the command of Allah what happened what happened did he remain with the Jamar no what was he told he was expelled so you understand what the importance of the Sunnah is and no matter how intelligent a person may be or no matter how convincing an argument may seem remember that we can never prefer logic IC reason over the Sunnah we can never do that why because as human beings we must realize this fact that our our intellect our reason it is limited it is small after all it's only within the skull I mean look at the size of the brain it's quite small H then how is it that this brain can fathom and understand the reality of everything alone by itself independently it's not possible if you think about it the heart the brain it has Windows right the eyes and the ears right which means that the needs an external source of knowledge doesn't it it cannot be independent correct so likewise when it comes to understanding the matters of our religion especially the names and attributes of Allah subhana tala can we use reason as a source of theology no what is our source of theology the Quran and Sunnah because if we will not adhere to it then what will happen division will happen and deviation will happen let me give you an example have you heard of have you heard of okay have you heard of you may have heard of these terms what's the root to go out so were basically those who left okay those who rebelled against Ali and left mainstream Muslims why because Ali he appointed Abu mus alar okay as a ruler and the all of a sudden they said how can you appoint a human being as a judge and they said they said you have committed kufur by appointing a human being as a judge so Ali they said you are a CF and they said that the S have committed kuur and 4,000 some say 6,000 of you know people basically they rebelled in this way and he went after them and he explained to them that look the logic that you're using does not make sense it is incorrect and so many of them they listen to but some of them they left all right they were known as and they basically believe that if a person commits a major sin he does not remain Muslim anymore his Iman is cancelled okay now think about it is this something that is proven from the Quran and Sunnah was this the way of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam that if a person committed a sin the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam did declared kuur on him was that the way is this from the Sunnah not at all don't we learn about to don't we learn about the H the punishments H why are they given as part of Toba right that no matter what crime has been committed there's always a way back it doesn't mean that a person has left the faults of Islam so when people deviate from the Sunnah what happens division happens then we also learned that for example the the women of they would pray Salah even during menstruation why out of this fear that if one Salah is missed in confusion over the beginning and ending of the period Then if we leave Salah we will commit kufur you understand so this was an extreme you know deviation and based on this the they considered the blood of the Muslims to be permissible so they would say it's permissible to wage war against the Muslims to kill the sahaba they waged they actually fought many Muslims and they attacked many and they said that the property of the Muslims is permissible for us to take and even the women can be taken as War captives and so on and so forth so you see how this deviation began how how this division began moving away from the Sunnah and using pure logic just logic what if you are committing a major sin then you know you have decreased in your Iman so much so that you have left Islam your Iman is not valid anymore let me give you another example have you heard of the term at the time of Hass alas Hass albas he was a right the were a major F because these people this group it came about at the time of the companions right so a man he asked in the Gathering of Hassan albas that who is a sinner that if a person commits a sin then has he left the folds of Islam is he no longer a Muslim is his Iman cancelled so Hassan Al basri he was about to give the answer when this man he stood up and he was from the students of Hassan Al basri and his name was he stood up and he said I will present a solution and that solution is that such a person who commits a sin he is neither a Muslim nor is he a cfir rather he is in a station between the two he is he is in a position between the two positions now first of all this response it was extremely rude because there is a teacher present and the teacher has a right to speak and you stand up without any permission and you give the answer like that and secondly what is the evidence of this does the Quran prove that if a person commits a sin that he know no longer remains a Muslim does the Quran say anything to that effect no there's nothing like that so what's the evidence now this man again he spoke without the Hass albas he explained but argued and he refused and he said I will teach myself meaning I don't need you anymore I will teach myself I will use my own reason I don't care about what you've learned from The Companions and what they learned from the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam I will teach myself I will use my reasoning and he went away and Hass he said at that time that he he has separated himself from us you understand he has separated himself from us meaning he is no longer part of the J so theah they adhere to the Sunnah and they adhere to the assembly the congregation of the Muslims they do not think like the deviators think preferring logic or Reason over the Sunnah nor do they behave in this manner what manner that over a difference you know declare kufur on the Muslims and divide meaning separate from them so the what do they believe in what is their says and it is to believe in Allah and his angels and his books and his Messengers and Resurrection after death meaning the afterlife also and also they believe in Divine decree this is the belief of who and if you think about it the one who believes in all of this then yes it is such belief that is founded upon the Quran and Sunnah and if a person rejects even one aspect of this belief then will that be called Iman so for example if a person does not believe in the last day will that be called Iman if a person does not believe in the Angels because he says oh I cannot see the angels and if I cannot see them I cannot believe in their existence will will that be called Iman no so when Iman will not be like how it is described over here then would a person belong to the group would he be off them no so if we want to be of the group which is n that will be saved in and that will be assisted and helped by Allah subhana tal then what is necessary that we adhere to this belief now what are the details of this IM inshallah we will look into that as we study the book but just one more thing one more clarification before we carry on that man this the holders of this AA the people who hold this belief they shall be helped they shall be assisted until the hour or until the time of their death what does it mean that this will survive H until the hour no matter how many deviations happen this pure Faith this pure Creed shall remain it will remain why because it is man it is assisted assisted with what proofs and evidences the basis the foundation of this AA is what the Sunnah the Quran and Allah subhana T has said about the Quran that Allah will preserve the Quran so when Allah will preserve the Quran then those who will take their AA from the Quran will their AKA last and survive and Prevail yes and if you think about it over the ages there have been so many trials and tribulation so many fitnas we think that these days there's such a big FNA of you know atheism for example that just because you know for example Evolution it's studied as a fact and it's scientifically proven what's going to happen to our Iman and what's going to happen to the Iman of our children but greater fitnas have been there in the past greater fitas and remember that those who hold on to the Quran and Sunnah Allah will preserve their faith Allah will give them firmness and stability Allah will give them firmness and stability how with what in this life and also in the Hereafter the truth shall remain no matter how much people try to finish it to eliminate it to distort it but the truth shall Prevail and let me give you an example IM Ahmed during his time the which began when when he began using his logic and reasoning and basically that group it evolved over time and the proponents of those beliefs they would even say that Allah subhana he speaks but he does not speak meaning in the Quran if Allah said that it doesn't actually mean cam okay so they denied the attributes of Allah if Allah has said that he sees it doesn't actually mean that he sees so they use different ways to distort the meaning they rejected the meaning they distorted the meaning they altered it they changed it so they also said in denial of Allah's that Allah does not speak but then people said well the Quran is the speech of Allah they said no no Quran is not speech of Allah it's the creation of Allah and this you know new belief you know it became so widespread that even the Khalifa of the time he was very much influenced by it so much so that he wanted to make sure that all of the scholars agreed with this belief and they also promoted it IM Ahmed he said no Quran Isam it is not because Allah speaks we do not deny the attribute of Allah of Cam if Allah has said that he speak speaks we believe that he speaks if the Quran Isam it's called in the Quran we will call itam we cannot call it m so IM Ahmed was he given help by Allah subhana tala yes how but Allah made him so firm he was given so much firmness that Ahmed he was called to bdad he was made to debate with the scholars he refuted them he gave them proof after proof when they were left speechless they tortured him they impr imprisoned him they beat him but he did not give up he did not give up and the scholars today say that were it not for the blessing of Allah through ahed the masses would be today the masses would be today meaning today one of the common beliefs that people would have about the Quran would be oh Quran is created Allah doesn't speak yeah he's God he doesn't really have any attributes he doesn't really see he doesn't really hear he doesn't really have any such traits this would be common today if Imam Ahmed had not been firm at that time so man even T was he in prison yes multiple times but M he was helped in the sense that he did not give up Allah subhana gave him such understanding of the texts that no matter what was said he was firm on his belief because he took it from where the Quran and the Sunnah so remember that the FNA of every era is different and theah remain firm on the H how because they remain firm on the Quran and Sunnah so no matter what wave of FNA comes it doesn't deviate them they survive they're helped so what is the and it is to believe in Allah and his angels his books his Messengers and alhamdulillah we went over this the details we will look at later and from the belief in Allah is belief in all that [Music] which he has described be with it him himself who has described himself Allah subhana tala where has he described himself in his book which book the Quran so of the belief in Allah is to believe in all that Allah has described himself with meaning every description that Allah has given of himself where in his book and in that which he has described him be he with it meaning with that description who has described him his messenger whose messenger Allah's messenger meaning to believe in that which the prophet sallallah alaihi wasallam has described Allah subhana tala so part of IM in Allah is to believe in the of Allah the descriptions of Allah and where do we find those descriptions from first of all from the Quran and secondly from the Sunnah and when we believe in these descriptions in these we believe in them without any nor any and without any nor any meaning we avoid these four matters when we believe in the descriptions of Allah we keep away from these four things these four Tes okay and now what are these terms inshallah we will look at them first of all to believe in Allah part of belief in Allah believing in Allah what does it mean believing in four matters first of all his existence the fact that he exists secondly I mentioned to you yesterday his rub the fact that he is the creator the Lord thirdly in his U that he is deserving of worship and fourthly his his names and his attributes so belief in Allah comprises of all these four matters belief in his existence and okay over here we see that how is it that we come to know about Allah subh what is it that we believe about Allah in the descriptions okay that we learn about from the Quran and from the Sunnah and this belief should be free from these four matters so in other words if these four matters are done then that belief would be impure it would be incorrect and if these four matters are abstained from then that belief in Allah subhana tala would be pure it would be correct okay let's look at the term to believe in that in which Allah has described himself with and in that which the messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam has described Allah subhana tal with now when Allah subhana tala describes himself I mentioned to you earlier the two kinds of descriptions which ones are they and okay so in the Quran do we learn about those which are so includes whichat and such as attributes such as life okay so does Allah subhana describe himself with life with the SI of life where okay so Allah subhana has described himself with the of can we deny that in any way in any way no we cannot so is there a problem with this belief at all then whatam has mentioned over here does it make sense this belief okay the second type ofat are after so for example Y is that mentioned in the Quran does Allah subhana describe himself with Y for example okay also in we learn okay after that is which are his actions are they mentioned in the Quran okay they're mentioned in the Quran so it's clear where in the verses of the Quran okay secondly those descriptions that we learned from where from theah the descriptions that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam gave the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam he did give us many descriptions of Allah subhana tala and in three ways first of all through through words meaning he verbally described the attributes of Allah subhana tala can you think of an attribute of Allah that you learn about from the Sunnah okay so for example in Hadith we learn that Allah subhana tala laughed so the words of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam they tell us about a of Allah Turner of the hearts that is a that we learn from the words of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam at the time of the when a person wakes up and you they wake up their spouse Allah subhana Smiles at them so these are words of alhi wasallam from which we learn about theat of Allah and there are many different saat secondly he also taught us Allah through his F through his actions how that for example when at the time of he pointed his finger up to the sky and he said Allah oh Allah you bear witness huh likewise the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam would look up to the sky waiting for huh likewise when he would make Dua hands are raised so so what does that mean that something has to come from above so all of these actions what do they show that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam demonstrated that Allah subh has he is above us clear that is an attribute of Allah that he is high above in a Hadith which is in Abu and it's a we learned that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasall recited an Ayah and at the end of the Ayah Allah's names and attributes were mentioned Sam that Allah hears and he sees and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam put his thumb on his ear and finger on his eye meaning he pointed just don't think it's metaphorical it's not literal no it's a fact Allah sees Allah hears now this doesn't mean that we go on describing that oh okay with an ear okay with an eye no we stop right there the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam with his action he proved he showed he emphasized that this is a fact Allah hears and he sees have no doubt about this don't go on describing it but just realize that Allah hears and he sees okay this is and the third way through which the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam told us about the attributes of Allah was through his approvals so for example once girl was brought and she was not able to speak and she was supposed to be set free but it was supposed to be a Muslim that was supposed to be set free so the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam asked the girl Allah and she pointed with her finger up to the sky and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said release her for she is a Believer she is a Believer so he approved of this that yes Allah is above you understand so there are many descriptions that we learn of Allah subhana from where from the Sunnah in the words of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam also through the actions of the prophet sallallahu alaihi and also his approvals now remember that Allah's attributes are part of our belief in Al and Al is something that we cannot describe because we have not seen it so we have to restrict ourselves to the descriptions that we learn from the Quran and Sunnah we just stop there we don't go beyond those descriptions IM Ahmed he said that Allah should not be described except in the way that he has described himself or as his messenger has described him the Quran and Hadith should not be exceeded you understand the Quran and Hadith should not be exceeded because you see what is mentioned over here so these descriptions where do we take them from the Quran and the Sunnah which means that we cannot use our own imagination to describe Allah subhana tala all right this is something that we are not allowed to do and remember that we have to take the was as as it has been described take it as is don't distort it don't change it don't further describe it no take it as it is okay four matters have to be avoided what are they first of all say the word have you heard of this term before what does mean to alter to change they used to change the words of the Torah from their proper places right and this habit of theirs is something that has been heavily criticized in the Quran over and over again not just once but several times sometimes it's called sometimes right so means to alter to change to change something in such a way so that it does not Remain the same it does not remain the same and sometimes it could be a very small change a very small change that is made to something and it does not remain the same for example you are preparing some food and the instructions they call for certain ingredients so you say you know what I don't have this much baking soda I'll just put yeast that small change what will it produce something different completely different so do we agree with this that a change whether it is big or small is a change H so with regards to Allah subhana T's names and attributes what does it mean changing the names of Allah the attributes of Allah whether it is done by changing those words or changing their meanings or changing their implication okay we have no right to change Allah's names we don't have any right to do that think about it how would you like it if somebody changed your name they say from today I'm not going to call you Aisha I'm going to call you Ashu would you like that no don't change my name my mother did not name me Ashu she named me aa so call me Aisha don't change it it's extremely disrespectful if somebody changes your name some people get so offended just if their spellings are changed huh even if the spellings of their name are changed it's not a matter that's taken lightly so how is it that the names of Allah can be changed and altered we don't have any right to do that now remember that this is done in two ways first of all in love and secondly in man love the word is changed okay the word is Chang changed and when the word will be changed obviously it will be something completely different so for example the first person to ever question the names and attributes of Allah was a man by the name of J binam okay he would go to his teacher was the student of ab okay so he would go up to him and he would ask questions like what does it mean by y that means Allah has a yet what does it mean by Allah spoke Allah speaks so he has a mouth and so on and so forth like he went on asking such questions he would answer his questions and he would say woe to you abstain from asking about these matters for I think that you will be amongst those who are destroyed meaning you're entering a very big danger zone so stop asking these questions don't think about these matters but J he continued and he began teaching others and for the first time ever Islamic theology was being taught that was completely different from mainstream and he began saying things such as Allah does not speak Allah does not love he does not see he does not hate he does not have any of these attributes and in order to prove that what would he do of what the words in the Quran so for example he said Allah does not speak and he said the Ayah that people quote it's not actually he said it's he changed the Allah into Allah now it means a big change how which means that it's so Allah is doing cam Allah spoke to m he said no it is that Allah so Allah object so M spoke to Allah not Allah spoke to M so alhamdulillah we have completed our lesson so far of today and uh let's go back from the beginning uh and how this madima uh is presented uh what did you learn regarding you know the beginning of it how does it begin anybody any points from there yes who would like to share something how does it begin mention of Allah us whatever you do you start with the name mention in the name of Allah yes the name of Allah basah so we should also put this into practice so whenever we are beginning anything we should have begin with the name of Allah remember that it is a source of Baraka and it's also source of protection and we all want that what did you learn from the first uh in fact that is going to be your homework I would like you all to read it out loud and read it to someone in fact okay and uh then inshallah we'll listen to you as well okay in groups so I would like you all to read practice reading this okay what else did we learn in this yes anybody very beautiful lessons we have learned today we are learning Allah's attributes in his yes in his Kamal and in his inam means in his perfect attributes and also in the way that he gives everyone right and further as you see uh we are learning that uh we'll go over it in detail never nevertheless any lesson that is for you for from today's lesson to take home what have you learned what did you learn regarding Salah you know we are learning you know how uh we say what does that mean anybody yeshet s I feel it's um sorry for my voice it's mandatory for us when the name of we because Allah also His blessings on absolutely absolutely good yes Sabah yes Salat basically means when Allah mentions and Praises Prophet Muhammad sallallah amongst his angels so that is and it was continued with which means that the followers of the Prophet sallallahu alaih wasallam are also included in that Salah yes so there's a great lesson for all of us yes good M there is a good news isn't it m exactly never ever did I recited the dud keeping this in mind that even we ourselves are included in this thought that it's about prophet his family his followers but we did not imagine ourselves in that place that we are also in was a new thing and new learning and that's something that you know we should always be thankful to Allah for ex blessing us with the best religion because we' talk about leun Z so that also mentions about having the religion which is above all the other religions and being born absolutely as a Muslim we should be really thank to Allah and we should make the most of it alhamdulillah alhamdulillah we'll take more Reflections and discussion in our next class because we have to close our time is up so we'll continue this inshallah in our next class let's close Sal
