At Alabama A&M University, securing a safe environment for our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors is our top priority. However, there is always the unlikely possibility of an individual causing harm on our campus. You're good. You need some time, too.
I want you to use my computer. That'll be great. And I've already got it pulled up on the page that you need. What about you guys?
An active shooter situation can develop at any time with little to no warning. In these tense situations, your survival may depend on whether or not you have a plan. Remember that you can either run, hide, or fight.
If you can run to safety, do so. Encourage others to leave with you as quickly as possible, leaving behind all personal belongings. Your personal safety should always be your top priority. Once you've escaped the danger zone, dial 911 and prevent others from entering the area if it is safe to do so.
Hey, there's a shooter on campus and he has a drug. A drug LRC. Stand by now, get officers en route.
Hey, in the mall units, could you read 1077 to the library for an active shooter? 86 copy en route. Copy en route.
Do you still have visual of the shooter? I don't know, everybody ran in a different direction. I don't know where he's at, I just heard from him three minutes. Please stay on the phone, don't hang up the phone.
I want you to stay on the phone as long as you can and if it becomes unsafe, I want you to hang up the phone. But I do want you to know that help is on the way, okay? Alabama A&M police officers will arrive on the scene as quickly as possible. Know that their top priority will be to apprehend the shooter. Paramedics will arrive at the scene promptly to tend to the wounded.
The University will send out information through our Bulldog Alert System to warn our community about the dangers posed by the shooter. If you are unable to safely exit the active shooting area, you will need to move quickly and quietly to secure a safe area to hide. If you are able to, barricade the door any way possible.
If you are unable to run or hide, you may have to fight the attacker. You will need to quickly improvise weapons and come up with a plan to stop the shooting. You should only defend yourself as a very last resort.
Contact! Hands up! Turn away from me! Turn away from me! Put out to your knees!
Put out to your knees! If the unthinkable should happen on the Alabama A&M University campus, remember these three key strategies. Run, hide, or fight. They could be the difference between life and death.
Stay safe, Bulldogs.
