The Sabbatical Year

  • Cycle: Six years of cultivation followed by a year of rest.

    • Avoid oppression in buying and selling.

    • God will bless the sixth year to produce enough for three years.

Land Ownership and Redemption

    • Relatives can redeem sold land.

    • In the Jubilee, land returns to original owners.

Social Welfare

    • No rigorous treatment of Israelite servants.
    • Serve until the Jubilee.

Servitude and Redemption

  • Redemption of Israelite Servants:
    • Israelites can be redeemed by relatives or themselves.
    • Calculations of redemption prices relate to proximity to Jubilee.
