EPPP Candidate Handbook Notes

Introduction

  • The EPPP is developed by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB).
  • It is a standardized exam for state boards and provincial colleges to evaluate candidates for psychology licensure.
  • Administered through Pearson VUE testing centers.
  • Consists of two parts: Part 1 (Knowledge) and Part 2 (Skills).
  • Part 2 (Skills) is only required in certain jurisdictions.
  • Requires a doctoral degree, supervised experience, and postdoctoral experience.

EPPP Structure

Part 1: Knowledge

  • Covers 8 content areas:
    1. Biological bases of behavior
    2. Cognitive-affective bases of behavior
    3. Social and cultural bases of behavior
    4. Growth and lifespan development
    5. Assessment and diagnosis
    6. Treatment, intervention, prevention, and supervision
    7. Research methods and statistics
    8. Ethical, legal, and professional issues
  • Contains 225 items (175 scored, 50 pretest).

Part 2: Skills

  • Covers 6 domains:
    1. Scientific orientation
    2. Assessment and intervention
    3. Relational competence
    4. Professionalism
    5. Ethical practice
    6. Collaboration, consultation, and supervision
  • Contains 170 items (130 scored, 40 pretest).

Applying for the EPPP

  • Candidates must apply for licensure through their local licensing authority.
  • Once approved, candidates register via Certemy.
  • Special accommodations must be requested before registering.

Exam Fees

  • Part 1 fee: $600, Part 2 fee: $450 (all fees non-refundable).
  • Additional test center fee: $91.88 per sitting.

Scheduling and Rescheduling

  • Schedule via Pearson VUE, using information from Certemy.
  • Must test within the validity period set by the licensing authority.
  • Rescheduling fees apply if done within specific timeframes.

Taking the EPPP

  • Arrive 30 minutes early with valid ID.
  • No scheduled breaks; clock runs continuously.
  • Computers provided for exam, with tutorials available.
  • Feedback can be provided immediately after the exam.

Receiving Results

  • Unofficial results provided immediately; official results sent to licensing authority.
  • Candidates scoring below 500 receive performance feedback.
  • For score transfers, contact ASPPB.

Retaking the EPPP

  • Retake policy varies by licensing authority.
  • Maximum four attempts per 12 months.

Sample Exams

  • Optional sample exams available online or at Pearson VUE centers.
  • Purpose is for practice under exam conditions.
