Ultimate Scoring Workout Lecture Notes

Introduction

  • Purpose: General workout to test current skill level
    • Not position-specific
    • Future workouts will be tailored for positions (point guards, shooters, big men, wings)
  • Assistants: Jackson, Collins, and Miles (due to lecturer's knee injury)

Workout Overview

Warm-ups

  1. Floaters from the corner: 10 makes each spot
  2. High scoops from the wing: Touch above the box, alternating feet
  3. One-legged runners: Jump shot motion, flick wrist
  4. Hook shots: Outside lane line, high touch
  5. Jump hooks: Rotate body, flick wrist over inside shoulder

Finishing Drills

  1. Beer step: Jump out to side, 7 makes each drill
  2. Slow step finishing (Luca): Hard deceleration, body rotation
  3. Slide by finishing: Avoid weak side help, inside-outside gather
  4. Slide by finishing with split: Outside-inside gather, quick jump
  5. Floaters: Various footwork (same foot, opposite foot, regular two steps)
  6. Up and unders: Show ball, finish on opposite side
  7. Hook shots: Two steps, same foot/hand finish

Ball Pickups

  1. Low pickups: Drive lane line, low scoop shot
  2. Low pickups with swing step: Sweep low, finish at rim
  3. High pickups: Drive middle, high gather, extended shots
  4. High pickups with swing step: Sweep high, finish on same side
  5. Tucks: Single-arm and two-hand tucks, finish at rim

Playing Off Two Feet

  1. Overstep to baby hook: Turn, finish with baby hook
  2. Overstep to jumper: Turn, shoot jumper
  3. Overstep to shot fake to finish: Turn, shot fake, step around defender
  4. Overstep to shot fake to opposite finish: Turn, shot fake, finish on opposite side
  5. Overstep to secondary bump B shot: Turn, create separation, shoot
  6. Inside-outside stops: Various shot fakes, step-throughs, leaners

Jump Stop Bumps

  1. Jump stop bump to shot: Separate, lean back
  2. Jump stop bump to shot fake, hesitation: Lean back shot
  3. Pier hops: Lateral jump into baby hook or jumper

Separation Moves

  1. Under drags: Reset feet, touch step back, split attack
  2. Behind the back speed stop: Quick foot reset, split drop, step back
  3. Inverted drag: Inside-outside stop, reverse step back, misdirection side step
  4. Punch drag series: Hard pound, reset feet, split attack, hesitation
  5. Behind the back wrap: Immediate shot, step back, downhill attack, snatch cross

Isolation Moves

  1. Anchor in between legs: Shake defender, shoot
  2. In and out crossover: Get space, shoot
  3. Cross jabs: Drive downhill, finish
  4. Quick cross tween: Drive and finish
  5. Iverson cross: Shift body weight, drive, finish

Transition Moves

  1. Skip pull-up jumper: Long range
  2. Crossover pull-up jumper: Switch hands, skip
  3. Push cross to finish: Two feet pull-ups or finishes
  4. Skip jab to drive: Drive downhill
