Today we are going to see a classic case of clinical gingivitis. It's a case of chronic generalized gingivitis which is right now having an acute features. Now what are the acute features which we are going to discuss. So first if we start with the marginal gingiva we see that there is a loss of scalloping and the marginal gingiva looks like rolled out.
At the same time, the interdental gingiva looks blunt. The tip of the interdental gingiva or the papilla is blunt. And clearly there is an increase in size of the marginal and interdental gingiva because of the increase in the cellular and the intercellular elements.
If we examine the gingival consistency, it is soft and edematous in nature. At the same time if we see the surface texture there is a loss of stippling and the gingiva looks smooth and shiny in appearance. So we have seen the color let's come to the color yes it is very much reddish in color. So we have done with the color, contour, consistency, surface texture. The position of the gingiva is coronal to the CEJ as CEJ is not visible.
So, which says that this is a case of gingivitis and the lesion has not progressed to periodontitis. Let us see what about bleeding on probing. One of the features indicating inflammation of the gingiva.
So we will probe in a walking fashion and see. or check for the different sides for 10 to 30 seconds if they have bleeding on probing. Yes, very much evident is the bleeding on probing and all the sides are involved.
So, this is a case where there is a positive finding of bleeding on probing. What about pocket depth? Let us check the probing depth.
It is 3 mm, 3 mm, 3 mm around. So the pocket probing depth looks very much normal. So the pocket has still not set in.
