Maximizing Focus and Efficiency

so we have to be disciplined to do is to say look our brains are built sadly to not handle multiple streams coming in at once so I'm gonna have to make hard choices I don't want to make those choices it makes me sad but that's the world we live in and if you make those hard choices you'll actually gain more your brain of work more and you blame them work especially more efficiently even when you're not taking multiple streams so number one do not have something that every time you get a text or a phone call or whatever it goes mainly because psychologists know that that's the best way to reinforce the best way for me to get you to do something is to randomly give it to you it's called random reinforcement right it just works phenomenally well that have been even constant reinforcement in essence like every now and then you get a quick jolt people people's brains love that since so it's exactly the one thing to laugh it's number one is shut up all those alerts like you know your message arrived ring ringing phone etc instead set it up so that every end minutes and we think we don't know the exact number we think it's likely somewhere between fifteen and thirty focus on what you do so if you are gonna sit down and write something then you write for 50 min don't do anything else don't let anything interrupt then take a quick scan of all the streams and decide which is the one you're gonna allocate the next 15 minutes do not the next 30 seconds not the next minute the next 15 and every 15 minutes the way you take a break is to quickly scan and say which is the one I want now this is very hard not saying this is easy because we'd love to have 12 things at once we don't want to know and you know we hate the thought that something won't be seen but the true the matter is that's the brain you got and if you try to cure it through practice you're gonna get worse rather than better because the research shows the more you do it the worse you are so ironically if you do this all the time when you really do need to multitask you'll actually be better at it not worse
