when I tell people the name of my podcast I went to a conference and I told somebody hey my name of my podcast is adjust your way to 100K and they laugh that's a little low isn't it 100K is the floor not the ceiling but how do you get to the ceiling that's what we're talking about this morning Amy good morning good morning good morning so um working my way around I got a job working with a TPA firm a TPA firm is a third party administrator Miss love lne good morning a TPA firm is a thirdparty administrator you may find yourself in your career working for a TPA firm possibly and so working with the third party administrator exactly exactly okay I'll give you an example you I I'm I'm uh we have insurance for Progressive right yes um but nobody knows that Progressive really isn't Progressive Progressive is ASI which is a third- party administrator a third- party administrator works for companies that want to self-insure or want to do um take over more responsibility of their of their um insuring but they don't want to do the work they don't want to have the claims department so they get an administrator to come in and do different work for them but it appears as if it's that company it should be seamless as if you don't know that this is another company handling these things for this compan so Progressive is really ASI and we don't know that because as a consumer you don't openly know that um behind the scenes that's what's happening I'll give you another example companies like Amazon Costco um many several different trucking compan companies they do self-insuring self-insuring is where you don't go out and you get a State Farm to underwrite your company for insurance you do all the underwriting you handle all the risks so you can get cheaper insurance rates but you still going to have to have a claims department to fulfill those claims that may come in excuse me that may come in from whatever sort of business you have for instance Amazon when the delivery drivers go out and deliver packages they get into fights with people they damage people's property so those people that are victims can sue Amazon and Amazon self-insurers so they pass it off to their inhouse claims department but instead of them doing it they hired a third party administrator also known as a TPA that make sense it makes that makes sense I'm glad you um were able to really diples good morning um show the picture yeah because some people may not know what that is so I just wanted to make sure that everyone was up to speed on what the TPA is if you with me and you AIC leave thank you so much so I'm I'm working in this environment and um I can see the the past jobs and the accolades that my uh co-workers have and um they have like brief descriptions of their whole careers and these people have all different types of things going on but what I read under several different people's profiles is um either they had the AIC or they were in works of getting it and I'm like why are they even mentioning this if they don't have it like what's so important about this and I went to go look it up and I'm like What's the AIC it's an associating claims and my eyes jumped out of my head I didn't know this existed an associate in claims what's that Shay good morning zarus good morning what's that Miss Noo-noo what's that so I'm talking to my manager I was like yeah you know I'm thinking about my associ and claims he's he's like oh really you thinking about it you are you doing it right now he got excited and this is what I found out that that designation means something to the TPA firm it means something to the carrier it means something to the Ia firm because they can take that information and go use it as a sales Tas when they go talk to a client yeah we have this many AIC designated adjustors we have this many cpcu designated adjusters that makes them look more favorable over other firms I saw that the AIC had power and I saw the cpcu had more power than a master's degree I'm going to say this to you again because those of you in here that have upper level degrees that have college uh degrees that have master's degrees you're not going to believe what I'm telling you but a CPC you holds more weight than your master's degree that's what we're talking about so when I understood that this was right around the time when I was starting the podcast ad justest your way to 100K I did two episodes talking about designations and cert certifications I talked about the AIC and I talked about the cpcu before I even had a AIC I understood that this designation equals power and if you don't believe me go to LinkedIn and start looking at the management in these firms and see what kind of alphabets they got behind their name hey claim tashena you hear me holds more weight than a master's degree holds more weight than a master's degree Jennifer S can you get the AIC as a new adjuster Miss Baptist good morning great question let me tell you the answer to that so when I worked for this TPA firm I huh you just the music yeah so when I worked at this TPA firm I had a manager and she was significantly younger than me she was probably about damn I'm going say she was probably about 10 years younger than me but had extensive um experience in the in the claims industry right and so I asked her about the AIC because she had a AIC I said when did you get it she said oh I got my AIC when I first came in I came in with it my AIC and Xactimate certification so can you get it as a new adjuster yes but new adjusters usually don't hear about it at least I didn't it took me many years to hear about it AIC designation no one told me anything and I'm not a lazy person where I heard about it and I didn't go move on it no I didn't know it existed you definitely can go get it as a new adjuster you can get that before you you can go get it before you get licens there's no demanded you know I people some people hey Clan how many credits is this designation Jennifer S it's four classes it's four classes one is ethics it's two core classes and then something uh elective um so the hours it's self-paced how long it's going to take you to go to the material is up to you uh tohaa says right I learned about it from a podcast and started researching you see the the the information is gatekeep but not anymore if you need industry where you can make six figures without a degree I talked to somebody that was making $750 a day I couldn't stop thinking about this thing that they called Insurance adjust in I went in I got licensed the same week the hurricane Harvey started but I didn't know that it would take me 13 months to really touch the industry but when it happened I made $10,000 in 21 days I didn't look back and now all these years later seven years later I'm I have an associate in claims because I found out that 100K I was so worried about getting to 100K but 100K is the floor not the ceiling there's other things to do in the industry hey claim so we go to this conference we go to this conference me and Mr Elite and we start finding out about all these other designations there's some that are even free and you know when we say this industry is gate kept Mrs Lewis thank you so much thank you when we say this industry is gatee kept I think maybe people don't understand what we mean but look we went to this conference and we took a class with these designated adjusters and designations I didn't even know existed yeah um lot of a lot of different ones they they had alphabet sup behind their name it was it was all kind of stuff and these are heads of firms managers at firms and you know y'all I went to go talk to these people after the after the conference and and you know you all y'all know me I joke I kid right but when I say I'm professional I'm serious about it when I say I'm for real about things and I show up I'm early I'm P you know I'm punctual I come dressed appropriately I I'm I'm not talking belligerently so you can just imagine how I approach these people and when I say when I say these people didn't want to talk to us when I say I went up and introduced myself and I said hey you know I was just in your class you taught a lot of information I see youve got a flood designation can you tell me more about that can I say the person's mouth never move I'm trying to put y'all in the imagine imagine being at a conference in a room full of hundreds of people there's tables everywhere there's booths everywhere you walk up to somebody's booth and you ask them about a designation that they have from a class that they just taught and you ask them about it and they can't even speak to you about it like their mouth doesn't move about it uncomfortable Silence about it that let me know they don't want us to know about these designations they're not going to help us get them they're not even going to talk to us about them and I didn't even have a camera on I was just going up saying hey I was was just in the class great info which it wasn't it was horrible info put together horribly not organized at all but I was I appreciated the info thanks for the info I saw you got a designation in floods can you tell me more about that and got up in love I swear I promise you and this is a conference I paid to be at I didn't get in for free I paid to be there so that let me know information about the designations associate and claims is one of the more popular designations but let's go to more info and look I'm not I don't want to shop you this price is not cheap so if you need materials there's two pricings to this there's four classes you have to take you have to buy the materials and you have to pay for the exam so these are two separate things the materials are $379 for each course but they give you ethics for free so you have to take three then the exam depending on when you're purchasing it if you're if you're in the testing window or you're outside of it the price changes but go over to the Institute you'll see some information there I've been trying to get a code for everybody I'm adjuster of the Year I'll keep working I haven't gotten anything for like the people that's been there for 20 years and they're pouting about it and I said you know that doesn't make any sense because they haven't they haven't done the things and put in the work and even have the experience and the tenure that the people have been doing for the last 20 years and I say this to adjusters because we don't have a union if you want to get paid somebody just join the that and I say this in my book that the way to stay deployed is um you have to you have to make sure that your attit your attitude and your mindset is in the right place especially on a deployment when you're in an environment with adjusters when we're all working 10 12 hours a day we're all working six seven days a week because your your your attitude affects everybody right and when you're in groups like this and people have different opportunities and they see you complaining they say to themselves I don't want that person on my team I don't think that's the right fit for my team I know some people get frustrated in the beginning of the process I'm no stranger to it I had to wait 13 months I promise you whatever you've thought about since May I thought about times 10 and I'm not diminishing your your journey at all because we all go through different things I call it a gesture way to 100K for a reason but what I am saying is that sometimes I've seen it happen people literally blocking Their Blessings and giving up when the pot of gold is just right there they just can't see it it's on the other side of the wall so don't don't don't give in to the frustration don't give up in my book um your first step is getting license you need to get training for what you're trying to get into um there is auto training we have Auto boot camp this weekend at the insurance adjer now facility this class has not been offered in at least eight to 10 months um because it was an extremely crazy hail season this past year and the teacher the instructor for this class his name is Joe Mulla he is the owner of an independent adjusting firm called masters of disasters what the S right disasters um often a lot of his students disaster is singular um Masters is plural right um mod um a lot of the students go work for Joe um at his uh at his with his company his FM and this year was a crazy hail season and he was not able to teach the class so it hasn't been offered for a while uh so the class is coming back around it's this weekend three whole days Friday Saturday Sunday on Saturday you're going to take a trip to a auto body facility you're going to see the estimating process you're going to work with it you're gonna we're going to talk about software ccc1 it's going to be a whole intense class on auto and different estimating and inspection tactics um that's offered at insurance adjuster now.com it is dis it is disasters he Clan so masters of dis masters of disasters um if if you want to go into Auto that's one class you could take but then there's desk adjusting right there's field adjusting there's different software like exact toate like symbility there's all these different things this training that you have to get when you become an adjuster but that depends on which way you want to go right but I talk about that in my book then after you get trained there's different firms that you need to get signed up with um because as an independent adjuster you're a business so now you have to go make business relationships let them know that hey I'm a I'm an adjuster I'm ready to work this is the training I've got this is the experience I have this is the uh this is where I want to go you align with those firms and then they have training as well they're going to have car certified training I talk about that in my book I talk about how to get your first deployment uh I talk about how to stay deployed I talk about hey once you're deployed you're making money this is how you get paid more than 100K because I tell you 100K is the floor not the between this week and next week there's going to be a lot so those ades Jesters will be able to jump into my class and get some help if they find that they need it I'm about I'm about ending my class on their own path of exploration as you go through it as you go through today continue to affirm to yourself the positive things use those things to power you up because while you're going through now you're going to look back on a time where your future self is going to thank you for putting in this work right now your future self is going to be glad that you invested and believed in you so I want
