Conducting a Platoon Raid for Army CST

Objective Rally Point (ORP)

  • Establish 360-degree security at the ORP before the mission.
  • Issue a warning order (WARNO) to the platoon after receiving the mission.
  • Develop a terrain model and platoon operations order (OPORD).

Leader's Recon

  • Conduct a Leader's Recon with key personnel (Squad Leaders, Point Man, RTO).
  • Optionally, set up a rally point (RP) between the ORP and the objective as a checkpoint.
  • Issue a five-point contingency plan (GOTWA) to the PSG.
  • GOTWA includes:
    • Who's going
    • When leadership is coming back
    • Actions if attacked
    • Actions if leadership receives contact

Movement to Objective

  • Move out in an order of march, typically in a platoon column fire team wedge.
  • The formation depends on the terrain and PL's commands.

Preparation for Raid

  • Once at the RP, set up assault, support by fire, and security elements:
    • Assault Elements: Positioned for direct attack.
    • Support by Fire Elements: Positioned to provide covering fire.
    • Security Elements: Provide overall security, including on potential enemy reinforcement routes.

Conducting the Attack

  • PL initiates the attack (e.g., initiating fires or blowing a whistle).
  • Assault Elements: Bound through the objective, clear weapons from enemy reach.
  • Support by Fire Team: Shift to pull rear security.
  • Security Elements: Maintain security on objective.

Post-Attack Actions

  • Establish even 360-degree security.
  • PL calls for special teams (e.g., EPW, Aid and Litter, Demo).
  • Execute the Red-White-Blue plan to withdraw from the objective:
    • Red: Assault elements withdraw.
    • White: Support by fire elements withdraw.
    • Blue: Security and demo teams withdraw and destroy objective.

After-Action Procedures

  • Reform at the ORP, maintain security.
  • PL gives a situational report (SITREP) to HQ.
  • Mission change or endex signifies the raid is complete.
