brothers and sisters we live in a time when people want to be known seen and recognized social media entertainment and the world around us tell us to share every detail of Our Lives what we think how we feel what we do but the Bible teaches us wisdom discretion and self-control in how we speak and what we reveal about ourselves the Bible repeatedly emphasizes the importance of guarding the heart because it is the Wellspring of life Proverbs 4:23 says above all else guard your heart for everything you do flows from it this is not just a poetic statement it is a command filled with wisdom and Truth the heart represents the core of who we are our thoughts desires emotions and spiritual condition if our heart is not guarded we become vulnerable to deception sin and attacks from the enemy guarding the heart requires wisdom many people assume they can trust their emotions and instincts but the Bible warns against this Jeremiah 17:9 tells us the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately sick who can understand it this means that without the guidance of God's word our hearts can easily lead us astray feelings can be manipulated desires can become corrupt and the enemy can plant lies in our minds that seem true and this is why we must guard Our Hearts by filtering everything through the truth of scripture one way to guard the The Heart Is by being careful about what we allow into it the things we see hear and meditate on have a direct impact on our spiritual well-being Psalm 1013 declares I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless many Christians struggle with sin and spiritual weakness because they expose themselves to ungodly influences through entertainment relationships and social media what we consume shapes our thinking and our thinking influences our actions if we fill our minds with impurity violence greed and pride it will corrupt our hearts but if we fill ourselves with God's truth we will be strengthened in righteousness another aspect of guarding the heart is being cautious about whom we allow into our lives 1 Corinthians 15:33 warns do not be deceived Bad Company corrupts good morals not everyone deserves access to our hearts some people bring negativity manipulation or Temptation others pretend to be friends but secretly seek to harm us even Jesus exercised wisdom in his relationships he ministered to many but he did not entrust himself to everyone John 2:24 he was closest to his disciples and even among them he shared his most intimate moments with Peter James and John if Christ himself himself was careful about his associations we must be as well guarding the heart also requires being aware of the enemy's tactics Satan is always looking for ways to plant seeds of Doubt bitterness and distraction in the hearts of Believers Ephesians 611 tells us to put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes the enemy Works subtly through small compromises unhealthy attachments and seemingly harmless distraction but if we stay alert and rooted in God's word we can recognize his schemes and stand firm ultimately guarding the heart is an act of obedience and trust in God we must submit our hearts to him daily asking him to cleanse protect and fill us with his truth when we do this we remain strong against deception steadfast in faith and secure in his love a guarded heart is a heart that remains faithful to God not everyone who enters your life comes with good intentions the Bible warns us repeatedly about the reality of deception manipulation and betrayal Jesus himself cautioned his disciples in Matthew 10:16 behold I am sending you out a sheep in the midst of wolves so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves this verse is a powerful reminder that while we are called to live righteously and love others we must also be Discerning because not everyone who appears friendly is truly for us one of the greatest mistakes Believers make is assuming that all people mean well while we are called to be loving we are also called to be wise Proverbs 14:15 says the simple believe anything but the prudent give thought to their steps many fall into unnecessary pain betrayal and heartache because they trust too easily they open their lives to individuals who later take advantage of their kindness they share secrets with those who do not value loyalty they rely on people who are not led by God but by selfish motives the Bible gives us clear examples of how dangerous it can be to trust the wrong people Samson confided in Delilah and she used that information to betray him judges 16 he thought she cared for him but in reality she was working with his enemies Judas walked with Jesus saw his miracles and even shared meals with him yet he betrayed the Savior for 30 pieces of silver Matthew 26: 14-6 if Jesus himself was betrayed by someone close should we not be cautious about the people we trust the enemy often disguises himself through people who appear to be kind supportive or well-meaning 2 Corinthians 11:45 warns Satan himself masquerades as an angel of Light it is not surprising then if his servants also masquerade as Servants of righteousness this means that not everyone who claims to be a believer is truly Walking with God some may come into your life pretending to encourage you but their real goal is to bring confusion lead you into sin or take advantage of you discernment is a spiritual necessity the holy spirit gives wisdom to those who seek it 1 John 4:1 tells us dear friends do not believe every Spirit but test the spirits to see whether they are from God before trusting someone we must pray for discernment observe their character and measure their words and actions against God's truth true friends and godly people bear the fruit of righteousness humility and integrity at the same time while we should be cautious we should not become fearful or bitter Romans 12:21 instructs do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good we should love others but with wisdom we should be kind but not naive we should be generous but not Reckless true wisdom comes when we recognize that not everyone has good intentions and allow God to guide us in every relationship a wise believer walks with discernment trusts carefully and relies on God for protection Jesus Christ the son of God walked in perfect wisdom during his time on Earth though he was full of love compassion and Grace he was also Discerning and cautious in his dealings with people he understood the nature of man and he did not entrust himself to everyone John 22425 says but Jesus would not entrust himself to them for he knew all people he did not need any testimony about Mankind for he knew what was in each person this verse reveals a profound truth Jesus understood that not everyone had good intentions and he exercised wisdom in his relationships one of the ways Jesus demonstrated caution was in the way he revealed truth he did not openly share everything with everyone instead he often spoke in Parables concealing deeper meanings from those who were not truly seeking God Matthew 13:10 And1 says the disciples came to him and asked why do you speak to the people in Parables he replied because the knowledge of the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven has been given to you but not to them Jesus knew that many people followed him for the wrong reasons some wanted entertain others sought Miracles and some were looking for ways to trap him by speaking in Parables he ensured that only those with sincere Hearts would understand his teachings Jesus was also cautious in his relationships though he ministered to the multitudes he did not allow just anyone into his inner circle he chose 12 disciples to walk closely with him and even among them he had a smaller group Peter James James and John who witnessed his most intimate moments such as the Transfiguration Matthew 1701 to2 he understood that not everyone could handle the full depth of who he was and what he came to do furthermore Jesus was well aware of the deception and hypocrisy of those around him the religious leaders the Pharisees and Sadducees constantly tried to trap him with trick questions and false accusations but Jesus never fell into their schemes Luke 2 23 says but he detected their trickery and said to them show me a Denarius whose image and inscription are on it he always responded with wisdom exposing their deceit while remaining blameless himself perhaps one of the clearest examples of Jesus caution is seen in how he handled Judas a scariot from the beginning Jesus knew that Judas would betray him John 67 771 says then Jesus replied have I not chosen you the 12 yet one of you is a devil he meant Judas the son of Simon a scariot who the one of the 12 was later to betray him yet Jesus did not immediately expose Judas he allowed events to unfold according to God's divine plan this shows that Jesus was not Reckless he was calculated wise and always in control as followers of Christ we must learn learn from his example love and kindness do not mean blind trust we must exercise wisdom in our relationships discern people's true intentions and rely on God for guidance true caution is not fear it is Godly wisdom that protects us from harm and keeps us walking in God's will the enemy Satan is always looking for opportunities to attack deceive and Destroy he does not always come with obvious Temptations or direct opposition instead he works through subtlety waiting for moments of carelessness to exploit 1 Peter 5:8 warns us be sober minded Be watchful your adversary the devil prows around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour this verse is a call to constant vigilance because carelessness in our spiritual walk can open the door to the enemy's influence one of the primary ways the enemy exploits carelessness is through neglecting prayer and God's word when Believers become too busy or too distracted to spend time with God they weaken their spiritual defenses Ephesians 6:11 instructs put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil if a soldier goes into battle without his armor he is easily struck down in the same way when a Christian neglects prayer in scripture he becomes vulnerable to deception sin and spiritual attacks another way Satan takes advantage of carelessness is through compromising with sin many Christians fall not because of a single obvious temptation but because of small compromises over time a little dishonesty a little impurity a little worldliness these things slowly weaken a believer's resistance the devil does not need a large door to enter he only needs a small crack Ecclesiastes 10:01 says dead flies make the perfumers ointment give off a stench so a little Folly outweighs wisdom and honor a moment of carelessness a small Indulgence in sin can have devastating consequences the enemy also exploits carelessness in relationships and associations many Believers surround themselves with ungodly influences without realizing the spiritual danger 1 Corinthians 15:33 warns do not be deceived Bad Company corrupts good morals a careless believer may assume they can handle ungodly friendships entertainment or environments without being affected but over time these influences lead them away from Holiness and into compromise additionally Satan uses spiritual complacency to lead Believers into deception some Christians After experiencing a season of Victory or spiritual growth become relaxed in their faith they assume they are strong enough to resist temptation and stop being watchful but the moment a Believer lets their guard down the enemy strikes even King David a man after God's Own Heart fell into Grievious sin when he became complacent and stayed home from Battle instead of fulfilling his duty to Samuel 11:01 verse4 the enemy is Relentless but he is not Unstoppable James 4:7 says submit yourselves therefore to God resist the devil and he will flee from you the key to avoiding Satan's traps is Vigilance remaining steadfast in prayer resisting compromise surrounding ourselves with Godly influences and staying close to God a careless believer is an easy target but a watchful prayerful Christian is one whom the enemy cannot defeat many people live their lives seeking approval from others measuring their worth by human opinions achievements and validation they crave acceptance fearing rejection and often compromise their faith and convictions to fit in but the Bible makes it clear that a believer's identity is found in Christ not in the approval of others Galatians 1:10 says for am I now seeking the approval of man or of God or am I trying to please man if I were still trying to please man I would not be a servant of Christ this verse is a powerful reminder that our our primary concern should be pleasing God not people when a person's identity is rooted in the opinions of others they become unstable if people praise them they feel valuable but if they are criticized they feel worthless this is a dangerous way to live because human approval is temporary and everchanging Proverbs 29:25 warns the fear of man lays a snare but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe when we live to please people we become trapped by their expectations we allow others to Define us instead of walking in the truth of who God says we are Jesus himself never sought the approval of men John 5:41 says I do not accept Glory from human beings though he loved people deeply he was not controlled by their opinions one moment the crowds praised him shouting hosana as he entered Jerusalem Matthew 219 but days later they cried out crucify him Matthew 27:22 this show knows how fickle human approval can be if even Jesus was rejected by men his followers must expect the same John 15:18 reminds us if the world hates you know that it has hated me before it hated you when our identity is in Christ we no longer seek validation from others because we know who we are in him we are children of God John 1:12 Chosen and dearly loved Colossians 3:12 redeemed and forgiven Ephesians 1:7 and made new in Christ 2 Corinthians 5:17 these truths do not change based on how people perceive us no amount of human rejection can take away what God has declared over our lives living for God's approval rather than man's brings Freedom we are no longer controlled by fear fear of rejection fear of failure or fear of being misunderstood instead we walk confidently in God's purpose knowing that our worth is secure in him Romans 1202 instruct do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind we do not need to follow worldly Trends or seek affirmation from people when we are already accepted by God ultimately Believers must remember that at the end of their lives they will not stand before people but before God the opinions of men will not matter on Judgment day but God's approval will living for Christ's approval brings Eternal reward while living for people's approval leads to emptiness true identity is found in Christ alone and in him we are secure words carry power they can build up or tear down bring life or destruction lead people closer to God or drive them further away Proverbs 18:21 warns death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruits this means that what we say has serious consequences not only for others but for our own Souls as followers of Christ we must speak with purpose and discernment ensuring that our words reflect his truth and wisdom rather than our own emotions or human impulses one of the greatest dangers in speech is careless talk talk many people speak without thinking saying whatever comes to mind without considering the impact of their words but Jesus made it clear that we are accountable for every word we speak Matthew 12 3637 says I tell you on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak for by your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned if every word matters then we must be intentional about what we say our word should not be empty idle or Reckless but purposeful edifying and glorifying to God discernment in speech means knowing when to speak and when to remain silent there is a time to share wisdom a time to encourage and a time to correct but there is also a time to hold back Proverbs 1727 to 28 says the one who has knowledge uses words with restraint and whoever has understanding is even tempered even a fool is thought WI if he keeps silent and Discerning if he holds his tongue many problems arise because people speak too soon too harshly or without full understanding a Discerning believer does not rush to give an opinion or react in anger but speaks only what is necessary and helpful speaking with purpose also means that our words should align with God's truth the world is filled with deception empty chatter and vain opinions but a Christian's words should be different Colossians 46 instructs let your speech always be gracious seasoned with salt so that you may know how you ought to answer each person this means our words should carry the wisdom Purity and authority of God's word we must avoid gossip slander and foolish talk choosing instead to speak words that bring light and life the ultimate example of speaking with purpose and discernment is Jesus himself every word he spoke spoke was intentional powerful and true he did not engage in meaningless debates nor did he speak to impress others John 12:49 says for I have not spoken on my own authority but the father who sent me has himself given me a commandment what to say and what to speak if even Jesus only spoke what the father directed him to how much more should we carefully guard our tongues as Believers we must pray for wisdom in our speech seek the guidance of the Holy H spirit before we speak and ensure that our words honor God when we speak with purpose and discernment we reflect Christ build up others and walk in obedience to God's will brothers and sisters be wise with your words do not let people know everything about you because not everyone has good intentions Jesus himself set boundaries and so must we speak with discernment share with purpose and trust that God Alone is the one who truly knows you when we guard our hearts we walk in the protection and wisdom of the Lord May our words always bring him glory and may Our Lives be hidden in Christ alone
