now a quick video this is a Spanish conqueror in a Costa Rican park by espa Spain question is should we glorify the brutal conquest by Spain which led to massive enslavement of indigenous people among others and it's a good time to differentiate right here in the middle of Costa Rica they don't keep this park clean they keep the others clean that's why they must hate the but the difference between the colonization particularly in the north of the United States compared to Latin America and the South where they were interested the colonizers with just ripping up things from the ground whether it's gold sugar and then in the United States cotton uh among other you know things to Cotton to make shirts Etc in Latin America more gold silver Etc although of course the southern part of the United States was not conquered by Spain except for parts of Florida and stuff but the point is colonization matters in the long term it's called path dependency path dependency means that there's a certain path that's put on a country or a region depending on its colonization so because the north where I'm from Massachusetts that whole area didn't Havey resources they were basically who conquered it were small farmers now we did of course hurt the indigenous people there's racism and everything else but it's not as bad as what you've seen in Latin American countries where there's a huge huge leftover portion of slavery from indigenous afrodescendants Etc you see the same thing in the South because it was just basically agricultural economies you didn't need to educate the people Etc you were just looking for slaves to rip up things from the ground whether it's gold silver cotton Indigo Etc and and they were not there to work so they just wanted slaves where in the north particularly where I'm from Massachusetts they didn't have that type of economy in fact that's why one of the reasons why in the in the northern part of the United States what developed was more right more of a subsistence economy and led to the first factory there in low Massachusetts and they needed educated people opposed to slaves because to work in factories and things like that you need educated people it's not that the people are better but you need the education for that type of economy and slavery just didn't work we're all over Latin America it did work I mean it's not a good thing but it worked for what they wanted to do and that's just have slaves and rip things up the ground bringing indigenous and African-Americans to certain areas where there was gold silver later ass salt you'll see a video on me on mine if you take another class on the Silver Mines ah I'm sorry the sugar uh the salt mines of Colombia so this is a very bad development that killed and tortured millions of people but at the same time development matters so should we have a statue Ling this type of conquering that led to millions of enslavement and pretty much a legacy of exploitation and poor e economic development take care everyone
