Tonight, the attention of the world is fixed on the stars. Here is an adventure for the world to share, the conquest of outer space. This is a field in which RCA has consistently worked with the government on its continuing program of space exploration.
It began back in 1958 with SCORE, the first talking satellite, which sent President Eisenhower's Christmas message around the Earth. 1960 saw the launching of TIROS, the world's first weather eye for locating icebergs, storms, and hurricanes. Since then, many more TIROS satellites have fulfilled their mission.
In 1960, RCA also provided the electronic tracking equipment for the passive satellite ECHO. Now, Relay is linking us for the first time to South America as well as Europe. Designed and built by RCA for NASA, Relay is the world's most powerful communication satellite, with all its vital components constructed for high reliability and long life.
Score, Tyros, Echo, Relay. They're all part of a continuing program, all successful. They're only the beginning.
At the RCA Space Center, work progresses on other major space projects. Here, RCA scientists are checking out Ranger's television system, the cameras which will send back the first close-up pictures of the moon. Here, too, Project CERT is underway, an outer space test for electric propulsion.
These are the projects RCA has undertaken with NASA. Their purpose? The peaceful use of outer space. Their promise?
A better life. for the entire world. R-C-A, the most trusted name in electronics.
