Welcome everyone to our second video for this week. In this video we're going to talk a little bit about the days of the week. We'll also talk a little bit about how to tell the dates and also the seasons.
There's four seasons and the months, but it all goes together. So, here we have the month, I mean the week. The week is seven.
días. Hay siete días en una semana. El primer día, the first day, el primer día de la semana es lunes. Looks a bit different. In American calendars or in U.S. calendars, you're going to see Sunday as the first day of the week, whereas in the Hispanic world, Monday is normally placed first, lunes, which makes sense because you have the weekends or that, the weekend.
the end of the week. It's logical. Okay. Lunes.
Lunes. Say it with me. Lunes. Lunes.
Martes. Martes. Miércoles. Jueves. Viernes.
Viernes. Sábado. Sábado.
And. Y. Domingo. Domingo. Lunes, martes, lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves.
We had to sing songs. When I was in Spanish 1, we had to sing songs. That was way, that's a long time ago. Like 2003. A long time ago. Anyway.
Lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado, domingo. So we have seven days in a week. Día. Día es 24 horas.
24 hours is a day. 24 hours. Okay, ¿qué día es? What day is it?
Oh, es sábado. Es domingo. Hoy, when I'm actually recording this, martes.
Es martes. ¿Y mes? Un mes, normalmente, es 30 o 31 días. Normalmente.
Hay 30 días en un mes. En este mes, en junio, hay 30 días. Un mes, típicamente, es cuatro semanas. Cuatro semanas en un mes. Un poco más.
Algunos días más. Okay. ¿Qué día es hoy? Looking at the arrow.
¿Qué día es hoy? What day is today? ¿Qué día es hoy? Hoy es viernes.
Hoy es viernes. Okay, if today is Friday, so let's think that today is Friday. Si hoy es viernes, ¿qué día es mañana? Mañana, mañana es sábado.
Hoy es viernes, mañana es sábado. So if today is Friday, what day is tomorrow? Tomorrow is Saturday. ¿Y ayer? What day was yesterday?
Ayer, jueves. Hoy, viernes. Mañana, sábado.
Ayer, jueves. Antayer, day before yesterday. Antayer. Hoy es viernes. Antayer, miércoles.
Hoy es viernes. Pasado mañana, the day after tomorrow. Pasado mañana, es domingo. But today is Tuesday.
Mañana es miércoles. Ayer, lunes. Si hoy es lunes.
Hoy es lunes. ¿Qué día es pasado mañana? The day after tomorrow. Hoy es lunes.
¿Qué día es pasado mañana? Hoy lunes. Mañana martes.
Pasado mañana es... Miércoles. Pasado mañana es miércoles. Si hoy es jueves. Today is Thursday.
Hoy es jueves. ¿Qué día es ayer? Sounds weird.
I feel like we should use past tense. ¿Qué día fue ayer? But we don't want to worry about past tense yet. So ¿Qué día es ayer? Ayer.
Hoy es jueves. Let's go back to our... Jueves, ayer, miércoles.
Ayer es miércoles. Si ayer es jueves. Yesterday was Thursday. Ayer es jueves. ¿Qué día es mañana?
What do you think? ¿Qué día es mañana? Did you say viernes?
It's not viernes. Today is viernes. because yesterday was Thursday.
So mañana es sábado. Mañana es sábado. Ayer es jueves.
Mañana es sábado. Ayer es jueves. Hoy es viernes. Mañana es sábado.
I want you to go ahead and pause the video and figure out these riddles. I put the days of the week at the very bottom. just to help you.
You guys ready to go? All right. Si antayer es lunes. So lunes, that's antayer. So that means today is miércoles, right?
¿Qué día es mañana? Ah, mañana es... Wait, I thought I wrote these in. Mañanas jueves. Ante ayeres lunes, mañanas jueves.
Okay. Pasado mañanas miércoles. Pasado mañanas.
That's two days from now is Wednesday. Si pasado mañanas miércoles, ¿qué día es mañana? Martes, right? Martes. Mañanas martes.
Si pasado mañanas miércoles, mañanas martes. Si ayer es lunes, that's yesterday. ¿A qué día es hoy?
Martes. Ayer es lunes, hoy es martes. Si hoy es domingo, ¿qué día es pasado mañana?
Two days in the future. ¿Qué día es pasado mañana? Es martes.
Y si mañana es jueves, that's mañana. ¿Qué día es antes de ayer? So.
Mañanas jueves, hoy tiene que ser miércoles. Hoy, miércoles. Entonces, antayer dos días en el pasado. Antayer es lunes. Antayer es lunes.
Si mañanas jueves, antayer es lunes. Lunes would be for number five. Did you guys get those?
I like these word puzzles. They make you think a little bit. All right, let's go through the meses.
I just want you to repeat these after me. Enero. Enero.
Febrero. Febrero. Enero is my favorite month.
Es mi mes favorito. Marzo. Say it after me. Marzo. Abril.
Abril. It's not mayo. I swear it's not mayo. Mayo.
Mayo. And you already know how to say that because everybody knows what Cinco de Mayo is. It's a great American holiday. American holiday. Not Mexican.
It's celebrated traditionally in Puebla, at least, but it more or less grew in the U.S. to be a big deal. Today they celebrate a little bit. But Cinco de Mayo is definitely like a top.
tiny holiday traditionally in Mexico and mainly only in the state of Puebla. Okay. Junio.
Ju-ni-o. Junio. Julio. Agosto.
Septiembre. Septiembre. Octubre. Octubre.
Noviembre, noviembre, diciembre, diciembre. Alright, so those are our months. There's one thing that's always bothered me about the months of the year, and that is that they are out of order.
Septiembre, this isn't something that you guys need to know. This is just something that personally bothers me. Sept means seven, right? Like siete. What is the ninth month?
Octubre 8th. Like an octopus, eight legs. Ocho means eight.
Noviembre from nueve, nine. And diciembre is from the word diez for ten. But it's the 12th month. What's going on here? Why is septiembre not the seventh month?
It's not the seventh month because we had two guys who really, really wanted their own months. And they took the best two months of the year, July and August. And so like Julius. Augustus Caesar, Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar, they took these months for themselves. And so they literally just pushed their months in and all the other months got pushed back.
That's why the literal word, ninth month, seventh month is the ninth month. Has nothing to do with anything. Just something that's always bothered me. But anyway, inero, febrero, marzo, abril, mayo. Junio, Julio, Agosto.
Julio, Agosto. Septiembre, Octubre, Noviembre, Diciembre. Okay. Hoy. So that's how we would say like today is.
Hoy es el doce de septiembre. Today is September 12th. Es el doce.
So you say the number of the day first, and then you say the month. De septiembre. Day, month, year. Es el 12 de septiembre de 2016. And the first of every month isn't el uno, it's el primero.
But only the one changes. Everything else stays the same. So let's do a couple of these together, and then I want you to do the rest of them alone. For number one, es el seis de enero.
Es el seis de enero. It's January 6th. But day goes first. Month goes from smallest to largest. Day, month, year.
Day, month, year. Es el nueve de febrero. Now I want you to pause the video and do three through eight on your own. And then let's come back together and do them all together. Todos listos?
Everybody ready? Todos listos? Okay. Es el 16 de noviembre.
Es el 16 de noviembre. Es el 4 de julio. Independence Day in the U.S. Es el 4 de julio. And no, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day.
You're like five months off. I think it's like 15th of September or 16th of September. Okay.
Es el 5 de Mayo. So 5 de Mayo. Es el 10 de Septiembre.
So 10 de Septiembre. 5 de Mayo celebrates a minor victory over the French. And only in... the city of Puebla.
So it was the Battle of Puebla way back in the 19th century. The French were like you guys need to pay your debts we're going to come and take over your country and they eventually like won. Like Cinco de Mayo was a minor victory during the time period.
The French installed an emperor it's a whole thing. It's the first of December. Only the first of the month actually says first.
Every other one is just the two of June, the three of June. Just the first is first. Es el doce de enero. It's el doce de enero.
And then we have four seasons in Spanish. We have what we're in right now. Verano, el verano. Junio, julio, agosto. That's el verano.
Tenemos otoño, autumn, otoño. And that's septiembre, octubre, noviembre. We have winter, invierno, invierno. And that is diciembre, enero, febrero. And we have primavera.
Primavera, spring, springtime. That's marzo, abril, y mayo. Okay, those are four seasons.
All right, there is just one more video today and it's the most important one for today. This is all just background information.
