in this video we're talking with Coach Ryan swingle from Hamilton College and he's going to walk you through a complete install guide of installing Duo but first before we get started what actually is Duo is it a variation of inside Zone what is Duo and here's coach swingle to explain it it is a downhill fast hitting Gap scheme double team based play with no puller we're trying to get vertical displacement of downline into essentially move the line of scrimmage from where it's at to the other side down the field to the defense and we're trying to deliver those first level Defenders in the laps of linebackers uh as we're getting that ball downhill as fast as possible uh hitting this thing behind double teams getting vertical right now so like coach said it's essentially Gap scheme without the puller so you think of running power counter any Gap scheme where the front side blocks the Gap and then the backside pulls here we're going to have both sides blocking like they would in the gaps game or not pulling anybody but there's more to this play and here's coach swingle to explain the high overview before we actually get into the diagrams in the video it is a downhill fast hitting Gap scheme type run but we are not pulling anyone so as opposed to comboing Backside building the wall and kicking out in some way shape or form and inserting someone on power encounter we are now getting those double teams vertical as possible to try to really re-establish the line of scrimmage on the other side of the football downfield and we are really trying to displace those down linemen into the laps of the linebackers with our thick hip to hip combinations uh and stay on those things for as long as possible to help re-establish that line of scrimmage downfield now what's unique about the duo play is how the running back reads the linebacker so coaching going to talk about an anchor key and a peripheral key but what you're doing is essentially you're going to read the Mike linebacker as your Anchor Key and then the will linebacker will be your peripheral key ideally you want to run this from under Center that way you can get the running back going downhill coach also mentions that he'll run it from pistol where the running back is staying directly behind the quarterback and shotgun so those are two different ways you can run it you can run from sidecar but it's not ideal and then the last little bit is just to make the corners Miss okay so we want to take those uh perimeter Defenders whether it be a free safety or Corner who isn't used to being in the fit tackling and we want to make them tackle if we can our running back should be able to make the corner Miss but here's coach talking a little bit more about the running back keys and what they need to look for uh before we get into the diagrams I think the biggest thing that is the difference besides the techniques that we're going to use up front uh between inside Zone and Duo is the aiming point and the read for the back uh and I'll I'll give you a better picture of this as we get into some of the drawings but just for a base sense when we're in the dot or in the home position which will be under under Center excuse me the heels of the running back are going to be at about seven and a half yards depending on how fast or how slow your running back hits this thing you can adjust that depth to try to get him the ball as deep as possible to then press the heels of the line of scrimmage and make his read as far up the ass of the offensive line as possible but we want to give that guy vision and align him in at least seven and a half yards if we're in the pistol uh his heels will once again be two and a half yards behind the quarterback which will still put him at that seven and a half yard Mark which is why I like the pistol as opposed to the gun to really get him going downhill uh with some with some depth and getting in the ball back there as fast as possible if we are in the gun okay we're gonna put our toes to the heels of the quarterback and our crotch is going to split the outside leg of the play side guard which will be aligned to to our side so those are the three different alignments that we can run out of uh and then our footwork is going to be a drop slide so we're going to take a drop step with the foot to the aiming Point side we are going to slide with that drop step and then our second and third steps are really going to put us on a track to the aiming point which is going to be the outside hip of the play side guard and at the end of the day before we get to our read the biggest thing here is making sure that we press that aiming point and get to the heels of the offensive lineman before we make our cut to really make our visual anchor who will be the mic commit to his run fit and Define the Reed for the running back okay uh so as we get past the footwork the aiming point now where are my eyes going to as the running back and this is something that I'm a big believer in there's a number of ways that people will will fit this thing or teach this thing as far as where the running back is supposed to fit this run um some will say hey just it's it's it's a feel thing wherever that window opens up I don't believe in that so we're going to talk about a primary visual anchor this is where my eyes should be really locked on uh and that's going to be our Point man or the mic so the linebacker that this first double team is going to go to will be the mic and our peripheral key to where if the point man or our visual anchor makes an outside movement then then and only then we will snap our eyes to our peripheral key who will be the will okay and you can see there if the mic works inside of that double team we're going to look to bend to the outside Gap um or a potential book read which is we're going to bounce this thing all the way out to the corner or the non-primary Run support player if the mic works outside okay we're going to look to cram the ball inside of the double team now and now with our peripheral key we can feel that will linebacker scrape and that is the only time we want to cut this thing backside to the open side of the Run scheme so next we're going to look at the line calls and how you can identify each block that happens in the duo scheme this is probably the most important part of this video we are also going to flash the line calls as coaches going through the video the diagrams that way you can have a fresh reminder of it you don't have to keep rewinding the video to check these out but again this is probably the most important part is the line calls and now as I get into some of more of the details before we get into diagrams as I go through stuff and talk about different calls that we'll make at the line of scrimmage up front between the offensive line the tight ends receivers and tight ends that are in the core of the scheme this is the way that we'll refer to things as so as the front side where the running back is aiming point is at a double team between the center and the play side guard is going to be called an ace a double team between the play side tackle and the play side guard getting vertical up to the Mike linebacker is going to be called a doom a double team between the play side tackle and the tight end to the mic is going to be called a tram so that t-word tackle tight end up to the mic in both doom and the tram makes it more vertical on Duo as opposed to going to the back side like we would on power or counter or some sort of a pulling Gap scheme a double team between a tight end or a wing or a receiver that's in a condensed split will be called a quad and if we run this to like a bunch set we can have a sort call for the tight end the point man of the bunch and the number one receiver to sort the unmann line of scrimmage the plus one and the support player based on their alignment and you'll see that coming to play a lot in our Bunch stuff when we get into film a lane is the term that we use to a one-on-one block on the front side this is primarily only going to happen to the play side Guard versus a thick 2i and potentially for a tight end versus an inside shade like a 6i when they have no help coming backside uh for our backside calls all right lane will be the the exact same call that we'll use on the back side as on the front side and that's just when we're in a one-on-one man-to-man block with no help coming behind me uh when I own that guy one-on-one based on my leverage and based on his alignment if we have a double team between the center and the back side Guard we're going to call that a Sig and they're going to try to essentially overlap or underlap that double team back to the backside linebacker a secure is used when the center uh has no presence with a backside 2i or a front side 2i rather and he's really securing that a gap up to the minus one linebacker or our will linebacker and then a fan call is made when any time an overhang player uh is threatening us of coming into the core of of the Run scheme we have to fan that out there to really abort the double teams to a walked up linebacker or a linebacker that's in a threatening position off the edge so in a very base terminology term as I go through this stuff uh that's what we will call our combinations and our calls as we go forward next we're going to take a look at the diagrams and coach's swingle is going to teach you how to block a five-man front four-man front and a three-man front as well and the different calls that you need to make again we're going to flash the line calls on the screen that way you're able to see exactly what he's talking about when he refers to Ace block a doom block and so on and so forth let's check it out absolutely so these first couple diagrams are all the diagrams really on this on this cover sheet for us they're going to be based up based off a bunch okay so this is going to create that five-man surface so the play side for all these will be to the right so we are running Duo go to the right in both of these diagrams okay and the bunch side here being to the right creates a one two three four five man surface past the center and I think running this out of three by one is really great versus middle open teams run this out of two by two is really great versus weak rotation teams okay and uh there's a number of different things we can do to combat weak rotation on a three by one by either alerting emotion uh or pushing the combinations out to that rotated down safety but anyway for these diagrams um like I said we'll run these all to the right so the running backs aiming Point first and foremost is the outside hip of this play side guard being the Right Guard in both of these his reed is going to be the mic like we talked about so that's his visual anchor and where his eyes are going to be locked on throughout the course of this and that's where this first play side double team whether it be a tram between the tackle and the tight end or a doom between the guard and the tackle are going to go to so his read is going to be predicated on if the mic or the anchor fits in we work out to bend to book once again Works in we can bend to book if he works out we can look to cram that right inside of the double team and now feel the will to where he works out the will scrapes over that's the only time the back would want to bend it back to the open side okay same thing here Mike works out look to cram it in between that double team and now we can feel the will if he is scraping over the top fast that's the only time we want him to bend that thing back to the open surface and the aiming Point difference especially for under Center for True inside Zone Beyond just how it looks drawn up and the technique and the combinations the way that it would be drawn up on the page looks very similar for the offensive line blocking scheme but the running back aiming point on inside Zone would be to the left if we run this truly inside Zone going to our left okay and now his read would start over here with the open Gap to the B Gap working back open Gap to the B Gap working back we're now Duo he is looking B Gap out which would be the back side of inside zones that's a common misconception as people go through on Twitter go through on social media is this inside zone or Duo really look at is it being run to a two-man surface is the running backs aiming point to a two-man surface if that's the case nine times out of ten it's probably inside Zone same thing over here if it's run and he is aiming whether it's out of the gun and his aiming point is initially to this open side B Gap it's probably inside Zone okay uh so that's the big difference as far as the running back read goes now as far as how all these lines are drawn up in our calls and everything like that both of these are the primary four down fronts that we'll see uh so first off if we're running this to a shade on the center and we get a four down front we're going to start our IDs up front for the first linebacker backside okay which is where the backside combination is going to go to and that will make everything make sense to eventually leave the corner or the softest non-primary run support player to the play side now unblocked okay so for a four down front we're on this thing to a shade we would get two lanes so one-on-one blocks to the back side here versus a three technique and a five and on these Lanes since the aiming point is backside our thought process on all of our runs is to protect the aiming point of the back so with the aiming point being so far away and on the other side of the center for this guard and the three technique and the tackle on the five we're going to take what's called a wrong step so a lot of times if people were running inside Zone and the aiming point was over here uh we want to run these guys off the aiming point or crease this thing on the aiming point for the guard to where you would just Step at him right now at whatever your aiming point is and look to run him off the ball both vertically and laterally for us on duo with the aiming point being back here to the front side of the Run being on the other side we'll take a quick pick it up put it down with our inside foot to protect versus any inside movement uh Second Step vertical through the crotch of the defender and trying to make contact with my outside hand on that second step and the inside hand can really work to where we're clamping the inside bicep to protect against any inside move so pick it up put it down with our inside foot Second Step vertical read through the crotch the defender our outside hand should play long and get through the outside peck of the defender our inside hand should be clamping the bicep on any backside Lanes here so three technique five technique laying on both of those guys okay for the center and the guard combination on a tight shade we're going to work what's called that Ace up to the will linebacker here okay so with the ace uh the center is going to be the inside piece of this all right and the technique for the center is the exact same as the tackle on this tram okay so the lead man really or the guy who has the The Defender as the outside presence okay as like the postman in a gap double team um he is going to take a quick pick it up put it down with our inside foot and that thing has to be fast right now we are just trying to load up that inside foot uh to really generate Force Through the ground to get vertical with our second step right through the crash of the defender and on that second step I should be working to fit my Defender side hand right into the breastplate of uh of that Defender as my second step gets vertical right through his crotch if this nose is playing super tight and super heavy on the center uh he can try to quickly transition to a two-handed takeover uh as we work up to this will linebacker the drive man in this Gap double team being uh the guard is going to work with what we call the gallop technique so he's going to drive off of his outside foot to where his first step should be working vertical right through the midline of the crotch of the defender and he is working third step timing so we should get uh push off the outside foot vertical right through the crotch the defender and then get another Gallop in before we make contact on that nose once again if the nose is playing tight into the center we can look to knock that thing over as we work up to the will linebacker okay if he is playing more into the Gap this thing can be more 50 50 to where both of our uh halves essentially away from the defender that arm that is outside of the defender so the left arm for the center in the situation the right hand or the right arm for the guard would be uh free so we don't want to close that hip down uh and really commit to that if we're gonna be going 50 50 on this Ace block okay uh now as we vertically displace this guy depending on where the will linebacker fits we will then come off so if the will fits as he should the B Gap sound in this a gap the center will come off and the guard will go one hand to two hand and as we work this double team the big pieces is to keep the defender side uh foot knee and hip high as we Gallop through that thing to really create good power angles through the force of the block okay so that'll be the ace same thing for the tram so pick it up put it down uh step for the for the tackle Second Step vertical working a single hand right through the breastplate of the defender if he's tight and playing heavy five on the tackle the the Y there is the tie down can look to knock that thing over as we work over to the mic if he is jetting the gap and he is really splitting the two of us this can be more 50 50 to where we're getting hip to hip Defender side leg knee foot uh high as we Gallop through this thing and look to displace him and read the fit of the mic so the mic fits inside tackle comes off tight end stays on Mike scrapes over the top tackle takes it over y comes off okay and we want to really have the presence especially when we go 50 50 on this and get hip to hip to try to stay on these combinations for as long as possible and displace this guy down the field as we deliver him in the lap of that linebacker okay um so yeah with that big piece on that is both of these combinations we want to keep the defender leg knee and hip high keep the outside piece away from the defender low and get hip to hip on this thing so we're not getting split okay the point man of the bunch will always be responsible for the Sam or the nickel Defender we call him the Frank for how we uh ID defenses is the field outside linebacker so the B is going to be responsible for the Frank or the nickel or the Sam whatever you call them in your defense uh and the outside piece of the bunch is always going to be responsible uh for the support player who we should think in this middle of the field open to high safety structure is going to be the safety because at the end of the day we want to make Corners tackle now the one thing that these guys can do is make that sort call and the real uh indicator of when we want to do that is for when the nickel Sam Frank player is outside leverage of the B to where this free safety will have to fit in that d-gap area crease between the Y and the B who's the point of the bunch we can essentially fold this thing B takes the nickel Sam Frank and the Z inserts for the free safety to leave the corner free to where Mike fits in we Bend this thing outside and now we get that nice crease where we get hats on hats and have good leverage to block The Defenders okay uh receiver to the open side is going to be on push cracker rules okay so with that Mill the field open we want to think unless if we get a pre-snap indicator of a cloud cover 2 Corner want to make Corners tackle if for some reason this ball spilled all the way out so as he pushes off the ball he is keeping eyes on that near safety Defender if the safety is flat footed or triggering into the box whatsoever uh he is going to then crack that guy if the safety is bailing and playing a deep half or rotating to the Post in some sort of the middle of the field closed coverage he can then just stay locked on the corner and block that player right there okay so that is versus when we're running it to a shade now when we run it to a three technique uh very similar thought process for this Doom as we had for the tram as far as technique goes so uh to the back side we'll start there okay five techniques still gonna get that lane call so tackle is that wrong step pick it up put it down Second Step through the crotch outside hand playing long right now through the outside peck of the defender inside hand is clamping that bicep to protect versus any inside move uh backside Center and guard combination still going to that will linebacker okay now we're gonna work the Sig on the back side so with the Sig the center is going to work that gallop technique and now as opposed to the guard working that timing step Second Step vertical to get really 50 50 on that double team he is going to try to step behind the center to protect versus any penetration because this is not the running backs key so we are not worried about this guy as much as we are worried about the defender blowing this up so the guard's gonna step behind and underlap the center is going to gallop and chip that guy over to where the guards really look to dig this guy out knock the nose over to try to dig him out and Prime out of the a gap and now as the will potentially flows over the top late the center can then come off if the will is triggering fast downhill right now they can both just come off to this late but the running back will never Bend this thing backside if the wheel fits downhill right now okay so that's the back side of the Run uh now when we run this thing to a three technique with the running back aiming Point uh outside leg of the play side guard here going to the right uh this Doom combination has the exact same principles as the tram that we had up here so with that the guard is the postman The Tackle is the drive man uh he's gonna take that inside timing step Second Step vertical working his inside hand right through the breastplate of the defender uh tackle is going to gallop three-step timing get his inside Defender side hand on The Defender as fast as possible on three-step timing okay once again if this three technique is playing heavy into the guard he can knock that over guard can transition to two hands and the uh tackle can really knock that hip over and work up to the mic try to define the Reed for the back if he is more of a jet player or a loose three technique and playing right in that Gap they can go 50 50 get hip to hip Defender side foot knee and hip high as we Gallop this thing and deliver that guy into the lap of the mic linebacker as the running back makes his read the Y here will be on a lane to the play side so he is just essentially going to aim for the near via the neck and run off the football and try to go and and and and take that defensive end where he wants to go so if he wants to play Heavy inside great just wash him down if he wants to spike outside great take him where he wants to go and play off of his leverage post Snap and the running back will make us right same rules here for the point man and the Z of the bunch the B as the point man here is primarily thinking I have the Sam nickel Frank this field overhang player and the Z thinks my first thought process is the free safety trying to make the corner tackle in space they can make the sort call to where if the Frank nickel Sam player is outside leverage of the point man of the bunch they can sort this to where the Z can go inside if that free safety is inside leverage to try to really fold that thing across and single receiver there is push crack rules for once again middle Open Press off the ball eyes on the safety safety is flat footed and fit in the Run go ahead and crack him if he is playing deep half or rotates to the post we can go ahead and stay locked on the corner there um so there's some more uh just like the general descriptions that we have in our Playbook uh play side tackle is responsible for those players and so on and so forth and those are all the tools combinations that we just talked about as far as uh that stuff goes there okay perfect um as far as the skill rules go quarterback footwork wise uh the quarterback wants to open to the call side um give the running back the ball on the midline and give it to him as as deep as possible um pistol same thing we want to seat that ball reach it back and ride with the running back we can walk him down if we have some sort of an RPO tag we don't want to let the ball get past our front hip as we make our read and then gun same thing we want to get the ball to the back seat it in his in his belly as fast as possible and we can walk him down and really ride uh that mesh as we make in potential RPO read okay um so you got that there um other pictures that we can look at here these are the exact same two that we just looked at uh so run this thing to a shade run this thing two or three technique when we get into the three down World um the same essential rules apply okay so we all are still responsible for that same Gap that we had um and our ID rules still say the same so that the attack on the guard and the three down are going to be responsible for the stand-up Rush end and this defensive end and with that we can make a tag call to where that is a tackle and guard combination we're going two for two for those two guys out there uh inside wrong step inside wrong step to protect versus any sort of movement okay uh and depending on where those guys fit we are responsible us two for those two so if they fit cgap B Gap tackle would take the C Gap player guard would take the B Gap player if this end wants to work outside and the rush end folds into the B Gap we just want to sort that thing on the Fly and protect the aiming point head up nose is still going to be the ace combination as if we had a tight shade to the center in the guard okay uh up to the will linebacker and we can still get the tram versus a four or five technique and a three down front B is still responsible for that Sam nickel Frank player and then here is a good picture with that free safety inside leverage we can make a a fold or a sort call to get that guy up through to the free safety there 3-3 odd stack look here same thing uh backside tackle backside guard are responsible for the end in the rush linebacker however that plays out acen up to the will tramming up to the mic B is responsible for the Sam nickel Frank uh Z has to find the leverage of that Sam nickel Frank and the free safety to either go get him right now or a potential fold call on him okay and then finally here we have a bear front so bear um is is unique especially for this play side guard so play side five play side three technique double lane just like we had uh in in that first picture up here yep now for uh we're gonna have a doom read it for the guard so the guard is going to take the most dangerous man at the end of the day we are responsible for whatever player fits our inside gap on the front side here so our backside Gap rather so with that uh the center is going to take a step towards the aiming point so to his right to try to really cut off the nose is like a lateral step we don't want to rim our hips into the hole and allow this nose to penetrate if he Slants backside he's going to take a pick it up put it down step with his inside foot and he is also going to be reading the slant for the nose if the nose Slants away he owns him one-on-one just drive him away from that aiming point if the nose Slants to the aiming point to the right he can expect this guard to read it and turn this into an ace on the fly up to the will linebacker so now this guard is going to foot fire essentially a big uh Mouse McNally terminology there the guard is going to foot fire and read it uh to where he is going to key the slant of the nose to where if the nose Slants to him he is going to work that Ace on the fly if the nose is head up and two gapping or Slants away he is going to foot fire and then transition into that Crowther technique to work a doom on the fly up to that same will linebacker with the three technique between him and the tackle on that Doom uh tackle is responsible for this three technique all day every day he just knows that he may or may not have help with for from the play side guard rather depending on what happens with that nose so that is the Doom read it call Y is still responsible for uh the defensive end stand up player B Point man of the bunch responsible for the Sam nickel Frank and Z is silver responsible for the safety Corner depending on who is the non-primary Run support player um and he wants to take the most dangerous between those two and he can still see that leverage of of the Sam nickel Frank to potentially fold this thing inside there off the bunch look next we're going to look at some film and coaching gonna tie some NFL film also in with his team's film so you can see the vast difference of you know how it works at the top level also college level but how easy it is to execute these certain blocks and the proper Footwear you need to take let's check it out the film that I'll be showing uh I studied a lot of the Rams back from their Super Bowl season got a lot of really good stuff from them they ran this play a ton uh over the course of their Super Bowl run and a lot of it was out of this 11 personnel Bunch stuff uh that we that we saw in the diagrams I will also get to some of the stuff that we ran at Hamilton this past year which will be more of the tight end Wing stuff uh some of the bunch stuff and some of the condensed stuff as well so without further ado I'll get to this so with Duo here it'll be Duo to the right so running backs aiming point is the outside hip of that play side guard being the Right Guard this will be the first linebacker back side this will be where the running backs visual anchor will be as the mic to where this Doom block is going to go up to uh and that's his visual anchor starting from the back side we'll get that lane so inside wrong step pick it up put it down from the tackle we'll get that Sig underlap up to this backer and then we'll get the Doom working up to the mic linebacker tight end will be responsible for the defensive end and this is a great picture now where that Sam nickel player is outside leverage pressing the point and now we can insert for 34 there as the running back makes his read so let's watch it on film left tackle there works out to him right now but then eventually gets his butt to the hole and protects the inside leverage there you can see the left guard steps behind the center Center is trying to chip him over to really limit the penetration between the 2i there to the left as they work up to number nine there as the will backer okay uh the Doom block between the Right Guard and the right tackle the three technique Works more into the tackle here to where the guard he is no longer on his framework he just works up to the mic right now Mike fits in back goes out for the bend read outside tight end is going to play off The Leverage of that defensive end he wants to play inside great match him get hip to hip tip to tip with your tip of your your sword to the tip of his sword and just match his leverage okay take him where he wants to go the running back will make us right with his reed the point man of the bunch blocks that nickel player and the outside piece of the bunch inserts on this fold for number 34 as the rotating down safety toward now the only unblocked player is this corner who our running back has to go beat and potentially a post safety making the play uh from severe depth there so like we talked about Mike fits in we Bend this thing out and now we are booking off the corner he Dives inside we can work out to all this space and create a positive game explosive game that if you will yeah okay another look here some motion back over to the bunch same thing run this thing two with three techniques we should get the lane we should get the Sig up to number nine the will we should get the Doom up to 58. tight end is laning on the defensive end and we can still with this nickel Sam be an outside leverage work this fold combination up to 34 is the safety there so there's the lane this is a great job on that Sig underlap guard steps behind the center centered gallops and chips them over and now they can come off late to number nine here on this Doom this is more of the 50 50. would like to see The Tackle here and this is a Hall of Fame left tackle so who might have critique him but ideally uh we're getting more hip to hip on this as opposed to overlapping uh so that we are getting vertical displacement of this guy and now the guard can come off to 58 as he fits inside Mike fits in we go out Bend read and now we're looking to cram this things this is where you don't have to book it all the way outside if this Gap presents itself so as soon as we can get north and south for the running back off of this Bend read we want to do that and get inside of the corner if he's playing outside leverage and the last clip when he Dove inside that's when we can book it outside and work to all that space but this is a great example of why this fold technique out of the bunch is so great because now this corner is playing outside leverage and we gain an extra Gap really or this thing should be splitting right in between the kick out block on the point and the insert fold block from the outside piece of the bunch and now we got to go once again the only unblocked player is the softest non-primary run support player be in the corner three technique especially when he's a tilted three like this you can already assume that he's gonna play heavy into that into that guard to where this can be more of the two-handed Takeover knock over the hip and then climb up to the mic linebacker there so that's a really good job and I talked to my guys no matter if we're on a power counter we call it a doctor double team back to 54 here or if we're on a doom double team if we know that we're going to go to a two-handed takeover and we're gonna knock this thing over on the Gallup key that near hip of the defender and shove that guy over right on his hip at his weak point trying to stay as Square as possible keeping that Defender side knee-high so that this leg is not getting over the top of us uh to weaken our power angles there and now fit up that linebacker and let the back make us right based off of his read left guard Mas here so we should be working this sig up to 54 the Doom up to 45 we're going two for two between the tight end the wing on the quad uh between 58 and 33 and now the Z as the outside piece of this this big surface is responsible um for the corner here so now we're running to a shade so four down front still now we're just running this thing to a shade so now we get the double lane we get the ace up to the will we get the tram up to the mic still out of the bunch the point man is responsible for the Sam nickel Frank player and the outside piece of the bunch should insert on this depending on The Leverage uh for the safety to the corner depending on the structure of the defense so this is a really good job by the left guard here on number 99 the three technique of that wrong step that we talked about and you see is inside hand placement on the bicep there to really try to protect versus any inside movement same thing from the left tackle watch both their inside arms really clamping that inside inside bicep just like we would on pass protection and track protective versus any sort of inside movement kind of sheds us there but this is ultimately our least of of all of these uh front six guys this is our least worrisome person to where we can thank either a Sig or on an ace let's handle the downlineman first because this is our running backs visual anchor for this first place side double team is going to okay so another backed up situation and this is something that the Rams got into a good amount and I think is really good if you don't have a second tight end uh for this type of stuff who cares if they know that you're on the ball you can still do seven man Duo protection and get these extra skill players out on routes and just keep this guy in the uh in the pass protection world uh with an extra tackle playing tight ends this is big 13 Personnel essentially to where we got uh a closed side tight end on the backside of Duo aiming Point's gonna be the outside hit appears to run Duo to the right you're gonna tackle as the first tight end and as true tight end as the wing player here so still run it to a shade uh he can still be responsible as if we were in Two by Two if he was a receiver detached responsible for the Sam nickel Frank player tackle going to be on a lane lane three technique backside we can Ace this thing up to the will tram this up to the mic and he's responsible for the force player over here foreign so we get the double lands two wrong steps there which is good and I think the only time that you would ever really have the tackle not wrong step this guy got to be in a super wide nine and there should be no threat of him working back inside but the day one base teaching if I was a freshman High School coach or a sixth or seventh grade middle school coach always wrong step and now as they get more comfortable with it if this guy is super wide and there's absolutely no threat but I swear if that guy crosses your face and they pirate this thing I'm gonna be pissed all right um so you get the ace on the front side Center doesn't really get that second step as vertical as he needs to he doesn't get in the ground before contact and that's the thing on these Aces and on these Crowther techniques from the postman on any of these Duo double teams so the inside piece of this is we don't have to have this big exaggerated first timing step it's just a quick pick it up put it down very similar to the wrong step as we're just trying to load that foot and get forced through the ground and allow the contact for us and the Gallup player as the drive man to occur at the same time so we don't get split on this he's playing tight into the center here as a tilted shade guard does a good job of knocking that hip over Center transitions from one arm to two arms take it over and now on the tram here same deal that five technique is playing heavy into the tackle transition from one hand to two hand tight end knock it over on the hip and help Define the Reed for the back our Reed is still here our periph key is still here our anchor fits inside we Bend this thing out and look to find the first crease receiver push cracking for the safety still and now we're running on the corner as the softest non-primary run support player and with the receiver of an outside leverage we can make a second level cut and try to run off the corner here but still an eight nine yard gain to get us into second one all right so getting back to the bare front here all right so like we talked about here Duo gonna be run to the closed side so we want to run this thing to the tight end aiming point being here to the right lane Arc for the overhang and I have a two by two step Center is going to take that inside step to read it we're going to get the Doom read it for the guard to foot fire and see the slant of the nose head up two gapping or Slants away we can Doom this on the Fly nose Slants to me we Ace on the fly up to that Mike backer who is stacked over the top so essentially it's us three for those three and we are going to read this thing out for how it presents itself into our Gap so no Slants too guard should come off just like he does tackle owns that three technique on his own Titan does a good job here a matching Leverage and even though we don't get necessarily to the uh to the mic here we're still handling the down lineman first and this is why we take the wrong step here from the left guard so left guard does not take the wrong step he just works the three technique right now we get slant across our face that's not good this is a great movement here at a bear to help free that linebacker this is a good good call by the defense another bear look here it's the same deal we should get double Lanes we should have the center taking an inside lateral step to feel the slant or The Leverage or the nose we should get the Doom read it from the guard where he's going to foot fire check this line of the nose to either Ace or doom on the fly up to the mic and now the tackle knows that he owns the three technique uh we'll go one to two with him blocking the safety so now the nose is head up and really two Gap in Center takes that inside step and is now trying to work this inside hand and really torque him away from the aiming point to protect the aiming Point all right and now this thing just turns into a doom on the Fly between the Right Guard and the right tackle there this is an example here by the tackle of a bad Gallup technique so you see here on the Crowther inside timing step Second Step vertical we want to keep the defender side uh foot knee and hip high so I don't want this knee to get over the top of the defender side knee you see the tackle here is he works out of his stance this outside leg foot knee hip gets in front of his inside one now we're not getting hip to hip on our double team we're softening our power angles and not allowing for us to have great technique it works out here but at the end of the day there are a lot of situations where we would be in a bad situation by not keeping that Defender side foot knee and hip high very similar look when we run into the shade now the 2i is more tightly aligned to the guard so as opposed to being a tight shade on the center this is when the center is going to work that secure path up to the will so the guard owns this guy trying to match his leverage drive him off the ball wrong step Lane wrong step Lane secure the a gap up to the will and then we're still going to get the tram up to here if for some reason this 2i Slants into the Gap this thing can turn to a doom on the Fly tight end owns them one-on-one and then one thing I talked to my guys about too is understand linebackers will give us Keys as the movement so in order for this defense to be Gap sound and then not move if if they play gaps here Gap here he has to fit this Gap he has to fit this Gap he's fitting this Gap this Gap this Gap and this Gap spill it outside right right if for some reason let's say he's negatively aligned inside and he's a super tight 2i how are they going to play this Gap either by moving the mic out or slanting someone in if he's playing in the window probably a good situation for us to just tram this okay uh if for some reason let's say we were running this here and he was plused over here or we were on this to a three technique right and this guy was aligned here and he was um outside leverage and there was no one to play the a gap we can make a trio call to where this is just a three-man combination us three for those three and we're gonna all essentially try to foot fire and read this thing to sort it out on the Fly for how it might Shake uh shape out but here this is a good example of why we wrong step and why we secure they work this pirate stunt to the front side now the center can give a little bit of a presence but the back still you can say oh well why doesn't he take this thing all the way over here is visual anchor remember is still just the mic so the mic fits in we go out and this is where we don't even worry about the will so this is a great example here of who cares what the peripheral key is doing my anchor is telling me the story I'm going to bend this thing outside and not take the cheese and now that guy's caught up in the wash as we press the heels of the o-line and bend this thing outside to run on a deep half safety in a cover two type look all right so this will be more of a three down front emphasis so we're running Duo going to the right here all right and now we're getting this versus a three down front Okay and this is great as far as seeing the situation so we're in third and one uh minus 34 yard line I believe at this point in the situation in the game we don't get the scoreboard shot here uh but if I'm correct I believe this is a first half deal but there was a drive eventually in this game to where we ran the ball every single possession essentially I have a 12 Personnel type look and when we get into these critical situations I talked to my guys in the install if we are coming in from a sideline huddle you should be like hey coach we gotta run Duo here man because this is something we believe in there's some we're gonna hang our Hat on at the end of the day like we talked about in the first slide of the running backs thought process know the situation it is okay to ride this tram block all the way up uh for a three-yard gain on on uh third and one to get us some positive yardage so here they're in a three down they kick the nose over slightly so this is still where this backside double team combination is so we call this that tag to where tackle and guard are working for The Rush end and the downlinemen we're gonna get the ace up to the will the tram up to the mic he's responsible here and we should ideally be push crack in for the safety here so tight end does a poor job now of not keeping the the defender side foot knee and hip high same thing from the Right Guard but my visual anchor 41 goes out we go in and the left guard is wrong here he is blocking Duo going to the right which is why ultimately this thing should crease if we go tag out to here Ace to right here visual anchor flows out we can now periph this this is an example we would want to bend it back to the open side but the guard is not there in this tag combination he kind of screws us there but running back gets downhill I like the thought process for the back of let's get us three yards and go ahead and get the first down so this will be a little bit better of a picture here so this is second nine from the nine yard line we get they kick the three down front as an adjustment to um to the tight end Wing service is that two by two so we're going to work a tag up to the first linebacker it was 41. we're gonna work an ace back to 46 there so this is a poor English y like run this more on a three by one than two by two we're gonna get a tram up to the safety now and the uh the outside Wing piece there is going to block the rush end here to the boundary but same thing Mike fits in great we go out and now we're running on this corner as this tackle tight end combination works all the way up to the safety so here we get to the three by one version and this is this will give you a better uh picture as far as leverage for the angles of the block so running Duo going to the right here we'll get a tag out to 38 uh really a secure up to 16 a tram up to there and then a land on four and depending on where 41 fits he fits out now we can bend this thing and really cram it depending on where our peripheral key goes so anchor is here he fits out I can now snap my eyes at 16 and we take that open window backside this is a good job by the back there of uh trusting his keys and getting this thing going where it should go when we had the split tag either a full back out of the back field or a slider coming across this is one that I really liked out of three down okay so our responsibilities are still the same it's still Duo going left now as that kickout player who would be his responsibility anyway right um on the nine here he's going to come across the ball as opposed to lining up over here so either as a full back in the eye or a slider coming across out of this two bias two to go to three by one real quick we're still running Duo going to the left okay so we're still gonna get the tag out to 48 we're still gonna get the ace up to the uh up to the will here we're gonna get the tram up to the mic and now we're gonna split this thing and ideally run on this post safety tight end does a good job here with the 4i working out knocking that thing over collapsing that thing down we go same foot same shoulder on the kick out block fits in we go out you can RPO this deal too so as opposed to push cracking the safety uh we glance tagged this quarterback should really pull this thing and throw it with that guy fitting down to the run but I understand what the post safety plan on the hash you didn't want to do it but ultimately the guy that's unblocked ends up making the tackle for a four-yard gain now in a nutshell that's Duo okay it's gapskin with all the puller you see all the different calls that coach made along with the diagrams and the videos if you have questions let us know in the comment
