Morning Vocal Exercises for Singers

Hello and welcome! Doing a vocal routine first thing in the morning is a great, healthy habit for singers. It's going to set you up for success in your day whether you're speaking or singing. So let's dive in. All right, the first exercise we're going to sing is hum. So we're basically singing the NG of the word hung. So it's just five note scale up and down, and if you are a lower voice, you can join me in octave down, otherwise let's do it together here. Let's go. Hung. All the sound is coming out your nose. It doesn't have to be loud. You can go bratty. If you need to. We'll do one more and then we'll head back down. Keep going. You might find that you have a little bit of a flip or a crack here. Don't worry about it. Just practice adding a little bit of that bratty sensation as needed to help kind of smooth that out. remember, we're just waking up our voice. One more. Very good. Okay, the next exercise we're going to sing is the lip trill or the bubble. And we're going to be singing it like this. And again, if you have a lower voice, you can join me the octave down. So think a little bit dopey. Underneath it, if that helps, if you need to have your hands here to kind of just take some of the weight off your bottom lip, go for it. And it's going to go like this. You'll get a good breath. You need to stay energetic. Because we don't want it really light. We don't want... We need the power behind this. So a nice strong... I always sing kind of straight ahead. As opposed to up and down. We'll do two more and we'll head back down. Keep going. And back down we go. If your nose is tickling, you're normal. Sometimes I do this to stop it from vibrating because it does get very tickly sometimes. I do this. Just a few more. I'm letting the bottom part of my belly, sort of the lower part of my ribcage, expand as I breathe. So you can think about taking a low breath. Two more. There you go. Now, just... Just as a side note, we've got all of these exercises inside the Shingio membership that allow you to customize the ranges. So if you're like, oh, I wish this went a little higher or a little lower, we've got you covered inside Shingio and you can take advantage of a free seven-day trial so you can go check it out using the link below this video. Okay, so for the next exercise, we're gonna fill our cheeks full of air like a puffer fish. And then you can plug your nose just to test that you've got this correct. So when you plug your nose, nothing should change. It should feel and sound the same. So watch this. It's the same. Now we're going to sing it. Just like that. Okay, let's go. Feels like a lot of work. Cheeks stay inflated. And you may feel your core muscles working here. And that's a good sign. So just keep it going. Smooth flow of air and sound. This exercise is so good for you. So if you ever find that you're feeling vocal fatigue you can pull this one out at any time. Last one. And you got it! Alright, next up we're singing the word go. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. On a long scale like that, keep them short. Don't be too grippy and loud with them, but also you want to make sure that they're connecting. So just practicing go, go, go. That's the energy. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. One more and we'll head down. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. Keep them short. Go, Alright, we've got one more exercise. We're going to be singing Back to those puffy cheeks. Now if you'd like some variation on this, you could choose to sing the letter V instead. Tickles a bit, but you can find what feels best for you. And if you can find some vibrato on each of the notes here, that's perfect. So allow yourself to relax into that. And if you want more information on vibrato, we've got you covered. We've got a whole lesson on that inside the singio method. We'll see you next time. We'll see how low we can take this. So only sing as low as is comfortable for you. For me, this is probably the last one. Nice. Okay, so there is a great little warm-up routine you can use at the start of your day. It's going to help you to wake up your voice, kind of stretch a little bit, and prepare you for whatever you've got ahead. Now, if you are not quite sure if you're doing the exercises correctly, or if you want a little feedback on your voice specifically, we do offer that inside the Singio membership. All you got to do is take advantage of that free seven-day trial. You'll have access to all of our resources, as well as direct feedback from teachers like myself. So make sure you take advantage of that. I'd love to hear how these are going for you. Happy practicing, and I'll see you around.
