The Enslavement of Israelites in Egypt

Hello everybody, this is Tommy here and I'm going to be talking about the children of Israel being enslaved in Egypt. But before we go further, I would like us to just make some disclaimer. This paper is an informative essay that seeks to tell a portion of a story about specific period in the history of the Jewish people. It's not all of the story, just a portion of it because of time. Please note that I'm a Christian, I love God, I refer to Him as my Heavenly Father and Creator. So if I use it in this presentation, please do not have an offense with that. Secondly, I have no intentions to bring this across as a ridicule against the holy book of god the bible but it's for an academic purpose for which i hope you guys will understand thirdly if you're somebody who's stricken by the mention of slave or slavery or anything of sort i would advise that you do what is best for you and i definitely understand that the instructor will be permissive to that You can walk out if you feel like, you can take a nap if you want to, you can also put your earpiece in your ear and listen to music if you just do not want to listen to anything that has to do with slavery. Following that, let's go right ahead. Like I also said, this is an informative paper. This is not meant to just approach what arguments are saying but just to tell the story of the Israelites and how they came about. Some key points will be stressed, especially the origin of the name Israelites. That's one important thing I would like to carry across. Hopefully you guys will find it informative. But before we go further, let us get to know a brief history of Egypt. What is Egypt? What was Egypt before the Israelites? In regards to this particular topic, I Looked at our history notes from War History 2321 by Dr. David Duggins and Egypt was famous, was a famous civilization on the London Nile River. Egypt was a Giflut Nile. Egypt was called a superpower. Egypt was called a melting point. All of these adjectives were meant to quantify Egypt's at a position where she was suitable for business she was suitable for gatherings and people went to trades people want to have fun to gamble and in egypt being the gift of the night they get the livelihood from the north it provided them fetas all and everything of salt so we now come to the israeli who what the israelites here It's a map of the journey of Abraham and the reasons I put Abraham in this is because Abraham is the forefather of the Israelites. God first engaged Abraham, told him to leave his parents place earth and move over to a land where he would promise him. That promise and that communication can be seen in the book of Genesis and just bear in mind for my references especially Bible references I use the new American Standard Bible. Abraham had Jacob, Jacob, Abraham had Isaac, excuse me, Abraham had Isaac, Isaac had Jacob, Jacob had the children today that is considered to be the children of Israel. Jacob's name was changed from Jacob to Israel by God. That can be found in Genesis 35 10. There are several scriptures here that reference to these lines. You see like Jacob and Esau born. Genesis 25, 24, Jacob descending. Genesis 30, downward. Jacob ordered to move to Bethel in the land of Canaan. Jacob is named Israel by Yahweh. Genesis 35, 10, Jacob the dreamer. I mean Joseph the dreamer and third child. That is the descendant of Jacob now, the children of Jacob. Joseph in Egypt. Joseph is the only child of Jacob that we mentioned is because Joseph became the point of contact. the children of Israel or the Israelites to Egypt excuse me for using children of Israel I just used to do on that because most time we come across it as that so Joseph became the point of contact and the story is told he was sold by his brothers taken to Egypt sold to Pontiff one of the generals in Egypt Pontiff asked him to take care of his home he was there a dedicated home worker this out of slavery at the time in Egypt were domestic servants those people were performing some kinds of slavery it was considered some degree of slavery at the time so you found more slaves in domestic homes The generation of Jacob, Joseph and his brothers passed on because they had lived for over 430 years. Now came Pharaoh Ramsey. It was Pharaoh Ramsey that put the children of Israel under slavery. And the reason was because he felt nervous that he felt there were too much in number. They have grown from 70 from the days of Jacob up to over 2 million, almost. in the bracket of the population of of egypt i think egypt at the time was lingering in the range of six to eight million people so they thought that hey if the people continue to live well produce and and procreate they're going to reach our numbers and they will be hard to control and they might even drum our enemies to fight and leave this place so we must do something as a result he passed a degree a decree that it should be made to do some hard labor to build cities and build rules for him so as a result the first picture you saw at the beginning of the slide is the pictures that depicts the children of israel being subjected to slavery whether were made to produce bricks using a straw at times he would refuse to get in strong even telling hey you go and find your own straw and use it you can't complain you can't refuse nothing this topic comes with a degree of controversy is there a lot of skepticism there are lots of dissatisfactions and debunk and a lot of scholars are debunking the fact that hey they don't believe this thing is real in fact some people say did they did israel actually exist is there any evidence of slavery in egyptian record does egypt record has evidence of what you're talking about can we reconcile your biblical account to hebrew slavery i mean of hebrews liberty egyptian records like i said this is not meant to bring the bible to public ridicule so maybe this somebody might take this and say hey you want to doubt about i have no strength of that in the bible i believe the bible i'm a christian but for the sake of the argument we must put other views so to diffuse these kind of views i put forth some pictures that depicts the kind of evidence that shows that yes these things existed and it was true that the children were actually slaves in Egypt. Number one, the first picture is a picture that is taken in the London Museum. This picture was displayed by Dr. John Ishteda, a curator of Egypt department in the British Museum. On that picture you see actions like the mud bricks with straw stem. It has only the royal seal that says the horse of Remesie. so Ramsey was the king at the time so from the time of slavery everything you see will be attributed to him because he resided over slavery and he subjugated other people so you see me using him and he was just the third Pharaoh in the 19th dynasty he was not the only Pharaoh but he expanded slavery and make it a thing of normal and even make people to do hard labor on streets and outdoor other than that people were doing it domestically and except for those prisoners of war. So historically that mud bricks were also carbon dated and it leads back to Israelized activities in the days of slavery. So it also proved that yes, it was true. It defused one of those conspiracies that if they actually exist, then mud bricks tells you yes, they existed and they were scientific, archaeological. evidence to prove and that mud breaks is one in this picture also you see the basket that most of our place in you see the white stuff this white element here is the mirror the uh women will use to beautify themselves for the husband you had a snake raw and everything that was there during the days of the exodus then exodus is not really stressing my work but it's exodus provide concrete reasons why um one would justify that the children were actually in slavery the second picture the second picture opposite this one is called the um the amana letter the amana letter was a letter sent to this to the pharaoh from the canaanites and what it said was that at a time those were the canaanites who were loyal to Egypt, to Egypt, they were loyal to the Pharaoh. They found references of people that they call the Herberos or the Amperos. when when you looked at the the etymology of the word and you can contextualize that word you will get to know that it refers to the Hebrews and who are the Hebrews that leads back to the Israelites that's another proof that yes the Israelites actually existed in the world they worked for the Egyptians another proof down beneath this particular one is called the Meripe Still, the Meripah still can be dated back to 1208 BCE and this is just a humongous play, a humongous costume with references that commemorate several battles of the Pharaoh Meripah. The Pharaoh Meripah was a warrior Pharaoh, he captured places, he take records and make sure those records are kept. You know civilization was in going, so people were keeping was in in transit was pervasive now so people were keeping records of the things and when epigraphers look at those inscriptions they accompany one very very key and important discoveries in the field that justify the bible saying to that of the story of the children of israel so it also responds to those or controversies to those people who don't believe that this actually occurred and in that there's a spellings there are a lot of spellings that reference Israel this contains the list of nations that was captured so it's believed that Israel was one of those nations that was captured by the Pharaoh uh Meribah even though we narrate that yes they resided in Canaan and other times they were not really formed but it says this is is believed that Israel was established in Palestine but was also established before the stele was made. So this is a long time in history. And the third one here is the Brooklyn papyrus, the one that looks green is the Brooklyn papyrus 35-1446. The Brooklyn papyrus is just the list of 95 names. domestic servants to one noble woman called Cenabese, an Egyptian noble woman called Cenabese. So she had these names as domestic servants and it's believed that 45 of these names were related to the Egyptians. One could be the Menahemah, that's the female equivalent of Menahem. You can find that in supportive readings can be in 2 Kings 15 14 if you're a Bible reader. In this paper, we try to show you the fact that yes, Israelites were actually slaves in Egypt. They existed. We tried to debunk some of the conspiracies and make them to understand that yes, it was true. There are links from the Bible to that of the Egyptian records that they kept, like you saw through the plates and those Egyptians' writings that were in the heresy language and things that were kept key and pertinent to them. so thank you so much for this i'm sorry uh i may have skipped some things that were very important to this but i will be um available for questions if you have questions so that those things that i did not say in things that you may have knowledge on and have doubts um hopefully i can be willing to help you clear your doubts thank you so much and let's go ahead hey
