Overview of Monitor Plus App Features

I think I've got something really cool for you today. It's a free monitor app which works on both iOS and Android. It's capable of doing a lot of things that the professional camera monitors do. However, there's a free version and a paid version and I'm only going to review the free part because that's what I use. And look at this! Isn't this cool? Note that you can use wireless as well, although wireless might be a little bit more choppy. Oops, sorry about that. Come here camera. Come here camera. Okay. So yeah, as I said, I'm using the wired version. I've got two cables. I've got a very short one for my little ZV-E10 and a phone on top of that one, which is filming us right here, right now. That's the one. And I can see myself really well. I will show you that in a second. I'm also using it to monitor myself. Here I'm using a teleprompter, which is actually not prompting anything, not that you couldn't tell by me waffling, I can see myself, and it's much more friendly to do a video like this, at least in my opinion. I can see my ugly face all the time and see what I'm doing. Am I in the center of the frame or not? And it still looks like I'm looking into the camera, and so I'm looking at you. So, it's perfect. So, I'm recording the screen, and we'll have a look at what this thing can do so first of all it shows us some information about uh what we're filming at so we've got 24 frames per second i can't change that now because i'm recording uh the shutter is at 1 over 50 and the iris is at 1.8 and i think i can modify that while i'm recording so i can so we should we don't see the iso yes we see the iso go up as you can see and you can see i see more of my background here as i go back to 1.8 so i still have it on auto so i can't touch it white balance i could change it now i'm not going to change it i stay on auto we can change the focus unfortunately we don't have touch to focus that would be really cool but still it's pretty cool and we have the different focus modes however as you can see and we have a battery indicator. Now funnily enough my tablet is charging the camera so my tablet's battery is going down at record speed. But never mind that's okay it has a big battery obviously a lot more mAh than the camera. So one thing that's awesome with this app is that you probably already have a high-end phone which has high nits and probably higher than most field monitors out there so not only is it always in your pocket but you have a high quality display. Now there is a caveat there, the app uses the streaming capability of the cameras, so you're not getting the full 4k resolution or whatever you're filming at, you're getting something that's condensed a bit. But honestly it looks quite good like both on my tablet here which is the 10 inch 1440p and it also looks good on my phone. There are some conflicting reviews on the app store or on google play actually for me i'm using android so it's google play so do read the reviews before you buy the premium version if you need functions like lot support waveform rgb parade false color and the list goes on like I'll let you have a check. Actually, I put it on the screen while I'm talking to you. As far as I'm concerned, for me, the app is flawless. I did some trials out in the open. And my tablet only goes to 400 nits. So that's not the brightest in the world. However, my phone, this is the Samsung Galaxy... This is the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and it's advertised for 1500 nits. It doesn't maintain those nits very long because it gets hot. I don't know if the display gets hot or it draws too much power and the battery gets hot. However, it's completely fine in full sunlight and I think I have an example. You will see that it's actually a little bit brighter than the screen on the A7IV, which is actually visible in full sunlight as well. So, you're getting much more real estate for monitoring. And it's great for framing. I miss a lot of framing stuff because my vision is not that good and I don't have reading glasses on all the time. And with the phone I can frame very conveniently. And I can look at myself, like have a look at this, like I'll film this at the same time. I find this app so useful. Like for me I can see what I'm filming, I can see myself on the slider, I can see when I'm outside I can frame better. And the best part of it is I only need a little piece of hardware to carry around with me. and I'm always ready to go because I always have a phone with me obviously. So the app works wirelessly with the more recent Sony cameras and it works wired with older Sony cameras. I chose to go wired because you can immediately start when you plug in it opens the app and starts operating whereas with wireless it's not quite as convenient and also usually I have my wireless connected for something else. However on the ZV-E10 on this little fella the wi-fi is pretty jerky. not jerky how do you yes jerky um there's a lot of images being skipped so i guess the little processor in the dv10 is not completely able to handle this function it works a lot better on wi-fi on the a74 but then again i use a wire you saw that you saw that with my tablet and my long cable. I have a long cable to go around the tripod here which is carrying the teleprompter and then I have a really short cable which is just for using on top of the camera when I'm using a phone. So yeah, a short little video. I hope you found that useful. This monitor app, monitor plus app has been a lifesaver for me. It's so super convenient I can't even believe it and it costs nothing for what I do with it. Read the reviews on the app store before you buy it because There might be some issues with some cameras, so that you're not in for a surprise. It's not a cheap little app for $2 or $3. But that's it for me. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed it. Please give this video a like if you're still here. Are you still here? Really? You're still here? That's amazing. When I look at the stats, normally there's nobody here anymore. Or maybe you just forgot to turn off your PC and the video is playing automatically. I don't know. But thanks for watching and I hope to see you in the next one.
