in 2015 Disney started a franchise of TV movies called descendants in which the children of Disney villains and heroes go to high school together and I think about descendants every day it sounds ridiculous when I say it out loud what are you going to do fans of this channel will remember that my first video was about descendants if you haven't watched that video Don't I'm kidding but it is very baby's first YouTube video descendant takes place in a kingdom called oradon that's enough of that uh the audio is bad I'm clearly uncomfortable being on camera and there's one glaring factual error which we'll get to later whatever I've made my piece with it now your first YouTube video probably isn't going to be good in the same way your middle School artwork isn't going to be good it's experience you're learning but there was a point in time where I was considering scrapping that video entirely I had been very slowly working on it over the course of several months and when I finished it and uploaded it onto YouTube it was immediately copyright claimed and copyright claimed in a way that I had never heard of before it had a worldwide block on it Disney said no one anywhere on planet Earth should see this video which like fair but at the time I was like this is a sign I should scrap the video and start over and this time instead of just doing a plot recap I'll do more analysis and a rewrite pitch cuz over the course of working on it I was disappointed with how it was turning out and there were all sorts of things I wish I had done differently so I was like here's my opportunity and my mom was like Sarah that's my name Sarah starting over sounds like a poor use of your time so I didn't start over and when the copyright appeal was approved I posted the original version but I have still wanted to do that second version this whole time and so we're doing it today and I'm using less Clips this time because I don't want this to get a worldwide block so first of all the World building all of the Disney characters coexist in this world and they live in kingdoms that are next to each other and we're just going to have to accept this at face value Disney loves a crossover and they inherently don't make sense because the characters are all from different locations and time periods and fictional worlds and Real Worlds like 101 Dalmations takes place in 1950s London and Aladdin takes place in agraba which is a fictionalization ation of Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures taking place vaguely many centuries ago how are these characters interacting the answer is that it doesn't matter and I don't care I had jokes in my original video like um actually this doesn't make sense and I cut those jokes out because it made me feel like cinemin so all of these Disney characters exist together and Beast from Beauty the Beast I know his name is Adam but they only refer to him as Beast he somehow unites all of the kingdoms and then gets elected king of this United super Kingdom I can't imagine what his campaign was like everyone form an alliance with me and make me king of everything because I want to not an amazing sales pitch and they name this United super Kingdom the United States of oradon which is is confusing because oradon is also the name of Bell and the beast's Kingdom in The Descendants world the individual Kingdom of oradon is referred to in a lot of descendants materials as Central oradon or oradon City kind of like it's the capital all of the kingdoms have made up names for the purposes of these movies I think because they don't want to mention any locations that aren't fictional like here's Bell and the Beast they're from France like where is that geographically located relative to agraba so everything is made fictional so Beast made an alliance and then named it after his country and is now super extra king and the other thing Beast did is he rounded up all the villains and Sidekicks and trapped them on an island called the aisle of the lost the aisle has a magical barrier around it that prevents them from leaving and prevents vents them from using magic or Wi-Fi according to one of the descendants books oron sends their garbage to the aisle and all of the Dead villains were resurrected to be put on the aisle and so by the start of the movie the aisle has existed for 20 years and there is a generation of kids that have been born there who have lived on the aisle their whole lives unable to leave and with restricted resources which I think we all can agree is inhumane and unjustifiable so many thoughts first of all from an oradon perspective why would you bring all the villains back and put them in a prison that you now have to devote resources to like I feel like it would be much easier to not do that the book says that they wanted to punish the villains more than death so they brought them back to suffer a life without magic obviously the real reason the villains needed to be alive is so that they could have children and those children could star in The Descendants movies but it makes all of the Disney heroes seem very spiteful that they're cool with resurrecting people for the express purpose of making them suffer like all of the characters in oron know that there are tons of kids on the aisle and are presumably cool with it cuz no one's done anything I actually I'm worried that was BEAST's campaign like make me king of everything and I'll trap everyone you don't like on an island if I was writing descendants I would have it be the villains all come back to life because of some unexplained magical thing like uh-oh Mickey's sorcerer hat came alive and brought all the villains back and then the heroes panicked and used magic to trap them on an aisle that way it wasn't a intentional and malicious decision on the hero's part also what about the villains who are non-magical because I would assume they could just go in a normal prison right they don't have to be contained and prevented from using magic that's not a punishment to them they never had magic and I would assume that any of the villains who were still alive before they made the aisle were in some sort of prison like lady Tain was just a normal alive woman did everyone get transferred to the aisle does oradon not have normal prisons anymore do they just send every criminal to the magic prison Island like I'm imagining someone in oron gets arrested for tax fraud and now they have to live under a magic Dome with Prince Hans from Frozen if I were Belle the moment my husband proposed this aisle plan I'd be like we're getting a divorce there is a darkness in your soul that that I am uncomfortable with this whole oradon aisle setup feels very reverse engineered like they wanted the children of Disney characters to go to high school together so they had to come up with a lot of justifications to make that happen oh how are all the Disney characters together oh they all live in a fictional Kingdom that's like Moder day America and they're all together alive at the same time okay uh what about about the villains uh they were brought back to life and they're in prison then how are they having children oh no not like a prison with cells it's like a an Island prison they're just like roaming around loose in there so how come they haven't escaped force field yeah all right so that's what we get from the opening narration there's a super Kingdom ruled by the Beast and he made a villain I Island yes I said the opening narration we're like 30 seconds into the movie I have a lot of thoughts about Disney's Descendants so let's discuss the main characters the first character I want to talk about is Ben he is Belle in the beast's son and he's going to be crowned King of the United States of oradon even though he is 16 and as his first Proclamation he's going to bring over four kids from the aisle of the lost because he thinks it's wrong that they've been stuck on the aisle their whole lives without ever having a chance at a normal life his first Proclamation is undermining what I can only assume was his dad's biggest piece of legislation other than unifying the kingdoms thing and Ben and the Beast butt heads over this in the first scene Beast thinks all the villain kids are probably evil and he doesn't want them to come over to oron but Ben does it anyway and then they never seem to talk about it again the characters usually talk about the aisle like it's some sort of Act of God like the Isle kids are victims of a natural disaster or something not an intentional decision by Ben's dad our main characters from the aisle never express that they're upset with Ben's dad for making the aisle the Beast is never like oh I was wrong to do that thing it's just as though that's the way of the world which I know that's because they didn't want to make the correlation between the aisle is bad and the Beast made the aisle therefore the Beast did a bad thing because the Beast is a big fan favorite hero character and they don't want to commit to him having done a bad thing which is ironic given that it's the Beast we're talking about like a lot of Disney princes are just uncomplicated nice man he's handsome and nice and available BEAST's whole thing is that he's more complicated and flawed and has this whole growth Arc so I feel like it's kind of fitting for his character to have made a big mistake and have to learn from it like they could have just done a scene where Beast was like hey sorry about the aisle I see now that I hurt a lot of people by doing that and I apologize but no anyway Ben is the Romantic lead and he's nice and that's about it he does this bold political move bringing kids over from the aisle but after that he's not a super active character things happen to him and around him he's mainly here to be a cute boy and be rescued and brainwashed we'll get to that later Ben is fine anyway so Ben is bringing four kids over from the aisle and those four kids are our other main characters so the first one is Mal daughter of Maleficent and she's our main protagonist all of the names are based off the parents' names so like Mal Maleficent I think it's to help the correlation between the kids and their parents for the audience who is mostly children Mal is snarky and rebellious and she does graffiti a lot of the conflict in the series comes from Mal making some sort of bad decision I'd say her two biggest flaws are that she's selfish she does a lot of things and doesn't think about how it will affect her friends or anyone else and she's also insecure and a lot of her choices are motivated by wanting to make people like her or feeling like she doesn't fit in these flaws make her seem sort of immature but I think that makes sense because these movies are aimed at children and children are famously immature a lot of kids content is about learning basic social emotional lessons decision making handling conflict apologizing sharing jealousy friendship lying that kind of stuff so I feel like a lot of characters in kids media make mistakes and handle things poorly so that by the end they can learn a lesson it makes me think of my other interest the Tinker bile movies in all those movies Tinkerbell is causing problems for herself and others but that's the whole point now in practice I'd say The Descendants movies don't do a great job portraying Mal and her many mistakes though admittedly I am a little bit biased towards Mal because I really like Mal's actress I think Dub Cameron has really good comedic timing and she's very charismatic so even though Mal is annoying Dove Cameron AS Mal is still fun to watch so I like Mal a lot more than other main characters in children's media who cause problems all the time next we have eie who's the daughter of the evil queen she's a girly girl and a seamstress she's much nicer and more levelheaded than Mal then there's Jay son of Jafar he's like a jock and he has sports subplots and then there's Carlos son of Cruella Deville he's more of a nerd also Carlos's actor Cameron Boyce tragically passed away right before the release of the third movie so I'm going to be leaving a link to the Cameron Boyce foundation in the description Mal EJ and Carlos are referred to as the core four because they sing a song about being rot into the core uh I don't really care about the songs I'm probably not going to be mentioning them so now let's talk movie One plot on the aisle Maleficent tells the cor for that they've been invited to go to oradon and she says that w while they're there they have to steal fairy Godmother's magic wand so that they can take over the world or something and the cor for want to impress their parents so they go along with it the cor for come to oron and they meet Ben and we can immediately tell that Ben is into Mal and Fairy Godmother who is the principal of the school for some reason guess she has nothing better to do and Ben's girlfriend Audrey who's the daughter of Sleeping Beauty and she does not like the villain Kids the first night in oron the cor for try to steal fairy Godmother's wand from a museum and fail so now they have to play the long con so they go to school and have subplots and whatever then they find out that Fairy Godmother is going to use the wand to bless Ben at coronation and the only people who get to sit up front at coronation are Ben's parents and his girlfriend and sitting up front would make stealing the wand easier cuz they're closer so the new plan is to use a love potion on Ben to make him fall in love with Mal so that they are dating and Mal gets to sit up front at coronation to make it easier for her to steal the wand during the coronation and the Love Potion makes him act really differently like now Mal is the only thing he's thinking about and he breaks up with Audrey by declaring his love for Mal it like completely overrides his Free Will and I think it's bad that they use a love potion on Ben I don't like it and it isn't really framed as a bad thing that Mal ru's Ben like Audrey is upset about it but it's more framed as her being a jealous ex the writers just don't seem to think using a love potion on someone is a big deal or at least if it's a couple you're supposed to root for then it doesn't matter cuz they were going to end up together anyway so who cares so in a way I don't really blame Mal because she's written by people who don't think that using a love potion on a boy is wrong but I think it's wrong to brainwash a boy into liking you and so I would like to pitch a version with no love potion my plan is to keep it as similar to the original as possible so the beginning is the same the core for come to Ordon with instructions to steal the wand now in the original everyone in oradon is discouraged from using magic but it's not against any rules or laws or anything the language they use about it is always very weak it's like we don't really use magic anymore but like Mal uses magic all the time and everyone knows that she's doing it and she's never in trouble for it like they didn't want to commit to Magic being not allowed so it's in this nebulous state of being discouraged and frowned upon but actually not a big deal at all in my version Magic is forbidden in oradon because it's too dangerous then also the magic mechanics are very vague sometimes it seems like an inherent ability like some people have magic and some people don't sometimes it seems like anyone can use magic if they have a magical item so I'm going to say that only some people can do magic but everyone can do magic with a magical artifact act like how some people can do math in their heads but everyone can use a calculator the best analogy I could come up with so when the core four come over to oron in a limo over a magical bridge I want Mal and Eevee to be amazed feeling magic for the first time because there's no magic under the barrier so now they're in this limo and like Mal's hands are glowing or something and the boys are both like what is happening then when they meet Fairy Godmother uh I've written some dialogue I got kind of carried away Mal says Fairy Godmother like the magic wand Bippity bity boo fairy Godmother's like oh well that was a long time ago the wands in the museum now the last time I used it was to create the barrier 20 years ago don't you guys use magic all the time no don't you know magic is forbidden in oron it's too d dangerous and then Audrey Pops in like except she's going to use the wand at Benny Boo's coronation she's going to bless him like the good fairies blessed my mom then the standard Mal Audrey bickering then there's still the failed Museum Heist and Carlos has his subplot about overcoming his fear of dogs uh Cruella had told him that dogs were vicious pack animals and they would eat him and then Ben introduces Carlos to a dog and now he likes dogs Jay has his Sports subplot which is a game called turny that I care about not at all though I will say about Jay that they set up this stealing thing with him where like on the aisle he steals things for his dad to then resell in his shop and then their first night in oradon Jay steals some things and then that's never mentioned again my theory is they were trying to parallel Aladdin but they kept cutting it down until now it doesn't make any sense so I'd say drop that cuz it doesn't go anywhere or maybe have a scene like Carlos and Ben where like Ben catches Jay stealing something and then they have a conversation about how stealing is wrong just like do something with it you know then in the original Eevee has a subplot about dating a prince named Chad Charming the evil queen had told Eevee her whole life that marrying a prince was the most important thing so when she meets this Prince she's like this is my focus now and I think this subplot is overly complicated like Chad is leading her on and she's doing his homework for him but also she's cheating with her mom's magic mirror and he knows she's cheating so later in the movie he reports her for cheating but then this nerdy guy Doug who's the son of Dopey helps her convinces the teacher to let her make it up or something and she does well without cheating because she's actually very smart and the cheating was just a separate thing uh I would say take out the cheating she's just smart and Chad doesn't like that he's like oh I didn't realize you were into books I don't like that kind of stuff so she stops studying and is failing the class and then she has to get an A on the next test or she won't pass so she asks Doug to study with her and she gets an a I feel like that's simpler and more straightforward maybe that's why they didn't do it they were like this is kind of cliche and boring let's make it more complicated but complicated does not mean better now for the main plot in the original Mal tries to manipulate the fairy Godmother's daughter Jane into getting the wand for her Jane is kind of awkward and not popular and she wishes she had cool hair like Mal so Mal uses her magic to give Jane a magic hair makeover and she's like your mom's wand could make you really beautiful I don't like this thing of saying that Jane is unattractive I know that it's not genuine Mal is just saying it to manipulate her but I don't think kids are sophisticated enough to understand that this scene where our main character is like you're ugly and that's why you don't have friends I don't think kids are going to get the Nuance of that I think they're just going to be like yeah sounds legit better incorporate that into my worldview bullying is such a hard thing to portray in kids movies I know that this isn't technically bullying but it's the same sentiment and I feel like it's a very fine line to portray a type of bullying that kids aren't going to internalize or try to emulate and I think it's made even worse by the fact that it's Mal our main character and protagonist doing it it's not like a stock bully character it's not like Audrey is calling Jane ugly though I admit I do like this scene because I do like that Mal is kind of terrible and this whole manipulative conversation is kind of funny cuz it's like kind of crazy to me that they allowed a main character in a Disney Channel movie to do that anyway so then word gets around that Mal does magical hair makeovers and she starts doing them for people like mulan's daughter Lonnie is like I know you're evil or whatever but can you do mine I'll pay you now in my version Magic is against the rules so I can't have Mal just going around giving people magic hair makeovers so in my version I'm going to replace it with Eevee is making clothes for people cuz she's a seamess so the scene with Mal and Jane would be oh I wish I look like you you have such cool clothes and Mal's like oh Eevee makes all my clothes she could make you something if you want but I think you'd really be popular if your mom gave you the old B boo then in my version I want Mal to be throughout all this practicing magic in secret and her friends are all covering for her so I'm imagining a lot of scenes where she's doing magic and someone comes in and everyone has to scramble to try and hide it so the scene where Lonnie comes in asking for a makeover in this she'd be asking Eevee to make her clothes and when Lonnie comes in Mal is practicing levitating things so the boys have to like hold down the floating things while Lonnie and Eevee talk about fabric choices and Silhouettes now for the Love Potion stuff in the original they make love potion cookies and Mal manipulates Ben into eating one the scene where they're baking cookies is one of my favorites in the whole series because Lonnie walks in on them and mentions her mom baking cookies for her and none of the core for relate because villain parents don't do stuff like that and Lonnie's very sad about that and she's like like oh I guess I thought even villains love their kids and then in a later scene Mal is talking to Eevee and she says that she knows her mom loves her in her own way and we the audience are like ah the villain parents don't love and support their kids like the hero parents parents are a big theme in descendants more on that later so we have to keep the cookie scene because the lonie cookie monologue is vitally important to the thematic of descendants so in my scene they aren't making love potion cookies they're making truth potion cookies cuz there's a truth potion in the second movie so like there's precedent for that and so their plan is they're going to give one to Fairy Godmother so that she tells them the passcode to release the wand from the museum or something the thing about descendants is that all of their plans are bad so I'm not terribly concerned these teens are just bad scheming so in the original they give Ben The Love Potion cookie before he goes to play turny then after the game Ben sings Mala song Under the effects of the Love Potion uh I'm not Roofing Ben so we're just going to go straight into the game and we're moving the song to later so instead in my version I want Audrey to come and confront Mal after the game side note in the original Chad and Audrey don't like the Isle kids and are suspicious of them and we're supposed to be like GH they're so unfair but like they are correct they're like Ben we don't trust those villain kids they're up to no good and Ben's like oh come on guys just give them a chance meanwhile the villain kids are in the other room coming up with mediocre plans to steal the wand and then Mal uses magic to steal Audrey's boyfriend so like I get it in my scene Audrey comes up to Mal like hey lost girl stay away from my boyfriend M's like what Audrey's like I see the way you look at him you like him but he's mine so back off besides he'd never date a Villain Like You pretty soon he'll come to his senses and you'll all be back on the aisle like you belong then uh-oh Ben is behind her and he's like hey she hasn't done anything wrong you shouldn't be mean to them just because of who their parents are if that's what you think then maybe I don't want to be your boyfriend then he apologizes to Mal and ends up asking her on a date I'm sorry she said that she was just trying to hurt your feelings she was right though we don't belong in oradon Mal of course you belong here but everyone will just always see us as villains I mean she's right who would want to date a villain I would so then Ben and M go on their date in the original it's at an enchanted Lake and the magic from the lake water washes off the effects of the Love Potion so from that point Ben is just pretending that he doesn't know about the love potion and is still dating her which I think is the reason for the Love Potion plot it's almost like a fake dating plot because Mal is pretending to date Ben in order to get the wand and Ben is pretending to be under the love potion and they're both actually falling for each other and from M's perspective it's very low pressure she doesn't have to be nervous about dating this cute boy because she thinks he's already completely obsessed with her I think part of the point of descendant is it's a little girl's wish fulfillment fantasy like you have purple hair and magic powers and everyone thinks you're super cool and you get to be wooed by this cute romantic boy who's totally into you well and M we're not doing that so it's just a cute date and M's all conflicted about liking Ben and wanting to stay in oron but wanting to make her mom happy then in the original there's event called family day this school is a boarding school so this is a day where everyone's family comes to visit and at first it goes great and Mal meets Ben's parents and she seems cool with them despite the whole aisle thing but then Audrey's Grandma so Sleeping Beauty Aurora her mother meets Mal and realizes who she is and is very mad that the villain kids are in oradon because of what what Maleficent did to Aurora and then it turns into a confrontation with Chad about how the core for all bad people and now everyone's against them so in mine they're planning to give the truth cookie to Fairy Godmother at Family Day like they had tried to give it to her earlier and it didn't work and they have the cookie but then Ben accidentally eats it like Mal sets it down on the snack table and Ben goes to eat it and M like H and then we have the song from earlier that I moved I am technically spelling Ben but it's temporary it's just for the duration of One Love Song and it's an accident the cookie wasn't meant for him so I think it's less bad also I'm sure you're wondering why would the truth cookie make him sing but my question is why would the Love Potion make him sing you know and then after the song Mal's like he really does like me and then the adults rush over fairy god mother and Belle and the Beast and they're like have you been using magic and M's like we didn't mean for Ben to eat it it was an accident Ben I'm so sorry but he looks upset and fairy Godmother's like it doesn't matter who it was for magic is forbidden in or on so now they're whatever the boarding school equivalent of grounded is and as they're walking away from family day Audrey's like they really are going to send you back to the aisle okay so now my version of the coronation the core four are moping around because they're boarding school equivalent of grounded and they can't go to coronation and then they decide that they have nothing to lose so they're just going to use magic to sneak into coronation E's like well I did already make our outfits so it would be a shame if nobody saw them and Jay asks are we still going to to try and steal the wand and M's like I haven't decided she's conflicted she's emotional and they use magic to leave the school and go to coronation and it's all callbacks to Magic Mal was practicing earlier like they levitate out of a window or something they sneak into coronation and they're hiding in the back and in the original Mal and Ben ride over together in a carriage and she gives him a magic cupcake to reverse the effects of the potion and that's when we get the reveal that he's known since the lake date so you've just been faking it since then I haven't been faking anything uh that's an iconic moment and I'm sorry that I'm cutting it then in the original when Ben is being crowned Jane steals the wand and she's going to use it to make herself beautiful again don't love that and somehow the wand like punctures a hole in the barrier of the aisle don't know why that would happen and Mal runs over and takes the wand from Jane and now she has the wand which is what she's wanted this whole time because she wants her mother to be proud of her but she's conflicted because she likes oron and she likes Ben and Ben tells her that the villain kids can choose to be good and so the core four choose good and decide that they're going to stay in oron but it's too late Maleficent comes over from the aisle and she and Mal fight and Maleficent turns into a dragon that looks not great this movie had a TV budget and Mal shrinks the dragon into a lizard with the power of love and friendship we're keeping all of that then in my version Ben and M have a moment at the end where she's like I'm sorry about what happened are you going to make us go back to the aisle Ben's like I meant what I said you guys belong in oron and do you still feel the way that you felt about me just take my word for it this time and then in an Ideal World he'd kiss her but I feel like Disney's weird about kissing like they don't kiss in the first Descendants movie I'm pretty sure Troy and Gabriella don't kiss until the third High School Musical movie so I don't know it's my movie I say they kiss that's movie one see what I'm going for still cheesy still silly just know drugging a prince I like the first movie it feels very cozy like it's most messing around at school and using magic the stakes feel very low Now movie two in the original Mal is struggling with being the king's girlfriend it's a lot of pressure and she's fantasizing about what life was like back on the aisle because she was more in control and she's using magic to get things done and then pretending that she isn't doing that again magic isn't against the rules or anything she's just trying to fit in by not using it and and also her friends think that she and Ben are going to get engaged at some point and that freaks her out about the future so that's where her head is at then she goes on a date with Ben and she uses magic to prepare everything but he finds her spell book at the bottom of the picnic basket and realizes she's been using magic for everything and she tries to use Magic on him to make him forget what just happened this scene is wild to me she has Love Potion him once and he forgave her for that he was like oh you had a crush and you were scared I get it it's cool that you drugged me but now she's spelling him again is this like a regular thing that's just her immediate response to anything going wrong is to use Magic on her boyfriend and then the other crazy thing is Ben has one line about her spelling him but the rest of the fight is about how she feels like she doesn't fit in an oron and he's upset that she's lying to him so the fight isn't even about magic she could have been lying about anything it could have been she promised to go to special royalty classes now that she's dating the king and has new obligations but she's blowing them off to hang out with the core for because they're the only ones who understand what it's like to be from the aisle and Ben finds out and he's upset that she's been lying and she feels like she doesn't fit in and look at that you can do conflict without using Magic on Ben and that's not even what I'm proposing for this scene that was a freebie in my version the conflict is much more straightforward about magic Mal complains to Eevee that she wishes she was free to use her magic in oron then on the date Ben discovers the spell book and he's like Mal I thought you stopped using magic it's dangerous remember Maleficent at my coronation remember how my magic saved everyone not all magic is bad Ben but Magic's not allowed well sometimes it feels like you're not even been trying to fit in an oron maybe I don't want to fit in an oron so then in the original Mal runs away to the aisle which is stupid of her but I feel like the writers just thought oh wouldn't it be cool if he went to the aisle and they just came up with some reason for us to go there I guess the aisle has like a one-way barrier like things can go in but they can't get out so Mal is able to ride a flying scooter into the aisle now for a quick subplot check Carlos wants to ask out Jane to the catian that's happening but he can't build up the courage to ask her so he has Mal make him a truth potion gummy the logic being that it will make him speak his mind but then the dog remember the dog it's okay if you don't the dog eats the gummy and now the dog can talk uh I don't like this and I don't think it's funny sorry to this dog I think instead Carlos should have Mal make him like a magic promposal amulet like some object where you activate it and then it does like magic fireworks and says will you go to Cillian with me so he doesn't have to ask her he can just like activate this magic thing I'm going somewhere with that listen it's not any worse of a plan than the truth gummy later in the original Carlos's able to ask out Jane after he gets a pep talk from the talking dog uh I'm changing that to a pep talk from his friends because why would I care about Carlos bonding with a talking dog oh and also Chad keeps coming into Carlos's room to use Carlos's 3D printer because Carlos has modded it and it works a lot better than the standard 3D printer then there's a sports sub plot between Jay and Lonnie we're doing a different sport this movie this time it's fencing someone pointed out in the comments of my last descendants video that they could be doing Sport Seasons like turns for part of the year and on the offseason they do fencing um very sweet of you to explain Sports to me I'll take your word for it Lonnie wants to join the fencing team but she isn't allowed because she's a girl and Chad is being very rude about it and Lonnie says another one of my favorite lines if my mother thought that way she would have lost the war which I cut this from my original video cuz it felt Cinema ciny but like what war Lonnie the war that Mulan fought against the Huns during the Northern wayy Dynasty in China that war anyway they find a loophole that Lonnie can be like team captain so problem solved back to the main plot a lot of the plot of this movie I think is fine I think just the initial conflict is kind of dumb so a lot of this I'm going to keep the same to the original so in the original the core for has a rival gang back on the aisle and they are a pirate crew even though there is a barrier around the aisle and their ship can't actually go anywhere they're pirates in spirit so we meet three Pirate characters the first one is Uma daughter of Ursula Uma is the captain of this pirate crew CU all of the powerful characters in this series are women ashir boss and she's angry that Mal and her crew got to go to oron but everyone else has been forgotten on the aisle which can I say fair Ben said we're going to start with four kids and then he fell in love with one of them and promptly forgot to bring over anyone else and we also find out that Uma was was rejected from being in Mal's gang when they were kids so we're kind of framing this as Uma is jealous of Mal and she's like bitter uma's a great character I feel like everyone loves her it's a shame that she's the villain of this movie and she has completely Justified anger and motivations it is really awful that no other villain kids have been brought to oron um for no reason at all I'm going to read a quote from the Wikipedia page for the angry black woman Trope because her passion and righteous indignation is often misread as irrational anger this image can be used to silence and shame black women who dare to challenge social inequalities complain about their circumstances or demand fair treatment just putting that out there then there's Harry the son of Captain Hook um I'm sure a lot of kids watched this movie and developed their first fictional crush he's this very specific genre of alternatively styled edgy dramatic man I don't like any genre of man so I don't really get it but I'm a man liking Ally and finally there's Gil who's the son of Gaston he's nice and not very smart kind of a hmbo so those are the Pirates now Mal is on the aisle and she goes to a lawn that is run by Cinderella's evil step family the traines and she gets a makeover from dizzy who is the daughter of Della she's very sweet and bubbly almost an audience insert character like she's a kid who the main characters are friends with anyway then Harry comes into the salon to get the Pirates cut of the salon's money because it's in the Pirates territory because the aisle is like gang and Turf War inspired and Harry sees Mal in the salon and they have a standoff uh I find this scene crazy to watch because Mal and Harry's actors were dating in real life so this scene has attention that it probably shouldn't like the two of them are toxic exes so now the Pirates know that Mal is here which is bad meanwhile back in oron Ben is regretting that he didn't empathize with Mal's problems and made her upset and he wants to go to the aisle to beg her to come back and Eevee says he can't go alone so her and the boys are going to come with him three out of four of the core four plus Ben come to the aisle Ben tries to convince Mal to come back with them and she says no also I don't know where they are for this conversation I guess Mal has a hideout in an industrial building the conversation is Ben wants Mal back and Mal feels like she doesn't belong in or on I want this conversation to be more about magic magic is a part of me when I came to oron and felt magic for the first time it changed my life I can't just live where there's magic and not use it Mal magic is against the rules it was against the rules for me to come to oron but you changed that and it worked out pretty well for us up until now Mal I love you please just come back and we can figure this all out you say you love me but you don't love my magic that's the problem problem then in the original Ben is captured by Pirates it is fun that Ben is always being rescued like it's a damsel and distress subversion I will say this is the problem with having a 16-year-old King who's pretty passive and trusting things keep happening to him that seem pretty bad for the security of oradon as a nation like imagine if a world leader kept being brainwashed kidnapped cursed a dragon attacks at King Charles's coronation like can someone get Ben a security detail please then in the original Mal has to go negotiate with Uma they arm wrestle and Mal loses so Uma wants the fairy Godmother's wand in exchange for Ben so she can free everyone on the aisle and the cor for come up with another one of their patented bad plans they're going to 3D print a fake wand and give that to Uma and run away really fast and use smoke bombs as a distraction so Carlos and Jay go back to oron to 3D print a wand and Lonnie figures out what's happening so she tells the boys she's going to tell on them unless they let her come along to the aisle meanwhile Eevee and Mal go get chemicals from the salon to make smoke bombs and dizzy and Eevee are very close they're both like fashionistas and dizzy is sad that she's not an oron but she doesn't hold it against anyone and she's just happy that Mal and Eevee get to live their dreams she's like selfless to the point of it being weird and I feel like this is contrasting against Uma like dizzy is wistful about oradon but not angry about the whole thing meanwhile Uma is bitter and vengeful GH anyway speaking of Uma she and Ben are having a conversation while he's being held for ransom she's like it's s that you haven't brought any more kids over and he's like oh man I didn't think of that Ben's certainly not the brightest bulb in oron which does make you think maybe he shouldn't be king of everything or at least maybe not until his frontal lobe has developed but he's very apologetic to Uma and he invites her to come back with him to oron so she can help them bring more kids over which is a nice gesture Uma is a leader and arguably much more qualified than Ben is to deal with something like this but it does a little bit feel like uma's saying you've done a bad job and Ben's like oh man can you do it for me also unrelated but I feel like Uma and Ben have really good chemistry The Descendants has what I think of as a CW cast where like everyone's attractive and has good chemistry and you can kind of just pair anyone up with each other anyway so then the rescue team comes and they have the fake wand but Uma wants proof that the wand is real before she trades for it and in the original the talking dog has tagged Along on this Rescue Mission and he can still talk on the aisle and so Mal like waves the wand at him and pretends that the wand is making him able to talk um this raises some questions about magic like magic doesn't work on the aisle but maybe if something is already Magic before it comes to the aisle it stays that way like the aisle just prevents new Magic from happening like we see Ursula's tentacles so presumably Ursula is still a magical sea creature she just can't cast spells anymore so I guess a truth enchantment on a dog is something that still works under the barrier fine well in my version there is no talking dog but Carlos still has his prom posal amulet or whatever I called it so when Uma asks for proof that the wand is real Mal waves her wand at Carlos and it's like eyes of N and scales of Fate make Carlos ask me on a date and Carlos is like what she's like he's like oh he activates the thing and there's magic I like the setup and payoff in descendants too like if there's a talking dog and act one that dog better be plot relevant in act three so they do the trade but then when Uma tries to use the wand she obviously realizes that it is not real and so the rescue team and the Pirates have a sword fight and this battle is 5 minutes long that is so long it like messes up the pacing of the movie because you think oh this is the big final action scene nope still more movie after this so I want to cut it to be like a minute long then in the original the rescue team goes back to oron and it's time for cellan which is on a boat Mal is still conflicted about whether she belongs in oron and whether Ben understands her but she goes to catian anyway in an ugly dress and then Ben comes out but he brought Uma and they're together she apparently swam through the barrier as it was closing and then used a love spell on Ben very Ursula and Prince Eric but then it's revealed that Ben has commissioned a stained glass portrait of Mal looking very is inspired and this shows that Ben understands her and now Mal is back on board with Ben and she realizes that Ben is under a love spell so she gives him true love's kiss and then Uma transforms into a sea monster and Mal transforms into a dragon and they fight and then Uma decides to swim away uh so for my version uma's not going to be a surprise we're going to see her follow the main characters through the barrier and then jump into the ocean then at catian Ben is not love potion and Uma isn't here yet I feel like Uma using a love potion works because Mal did it so it's like a parallel they both be witch Kings when they're feeling desperate though when Mal does it it's fine and she's forgiven immediately but when Uma does it everyone at catian is like shocked and horrified there's some real drugging the king double standards so since Mal doesn't use a love potion in mine obviously I don't think Uma should either so Ben is in his normal State and he makes a big Proclamation that magic is allowed in oradon now and Mal is shocked and happy and Ben understands her and they kiss and then um pops up out of the water as a sea monster and she's like does that mean I get to use magic too M's like how did you get here and uma's like I followed you through the barrier if you guys aren't going to bring the kids off the aisle I'm going to do it myself and Ben's like wait don't go off and try and do that on your own stay here and be part of the solution and you can tell uma's considering it she's thinking about it but then Mal is like Uma part of the solution not a chance because Ben is now sympathetic to Uma in her cause but Mal still hates her so Uma gets angry and Mal and Uma have their Pokemon battle and Uma swims away then in the original Mal turns back into a human and her dress transforms and her and Ben kiss and E's like I think we should bring more kids from the aisle I want Ben to have a line like umu is right I need to do a better job taking care of the aisle and M's like GH never say uma's right the second movie is interesting because it's like hey remember the aisle the first movie seemed so unconcerned with the aisle outside of the core for's parents the second movie also pretty much drops the parent theme I think because those actors weren't going to come back for this movie and they had a lot of other stuff they wanted to do in this movie it makes the second movie feel older to me the first one feels very kids afraid of their parents so movie three Movie 3 is interesting it's very cluttered and less focused I think because it's the last movie it's trying to wrap everything up the first movie is about choosing to be good and your relationship with your family the second movie is about how the aisle is unjust and Mal feels like she doesn't fit in an oradon the third movie is trying to wrap up all of those things which is many things some might say too many so my goal is to simplify it a bit so the movie starts out with the core of four doing a lottery draw to pick who gets to come to oron next it's going to be four more kids one of whom is dizzy who we met in the last movie and that movie ended with Dizzy getting a letter that she was going to come to oron so we already knew about dizzy and then Celia daughter of Dr facilier and she's part of the plot and Mr SME twin Sons squeaky and squirmy uh I don't know why it's only four kids at a time I guess that's the the only way you can bring kids over from the aisle is four at a time they're allegedly trying to bring more kids over have they done any like setup for that like housing where are the kids going to stay are they enrolled in schools can schools accommodate however many more kids the kids have documentation of any kind I don't know if the aisle is giving them like a birth certificate who's going to be watching these kids if it's just the kids coming over and not the parents these four kids are going to be staying at E's house so it feels like we haven't prepped any of this stuff it feels very unprepared oh the king's girlfriend's best friend has extra room so you could crash at her place unsupervised children I know this is a Disney Channel movie for children and kids don't care about bureaucracy but I care I'd say have Ben and Mal discussed like in passing like oh the new dorms for the aisle kids are ready and then just don't specify a number of kids don't say four four is so low like I'm sure they just didn't want to deal with more characters so don't just focus on dizzy and Celia but when you're bringing the kids from the aisle have like dizzy and Celia travel back with the main characters and then have a bus of background character kids come over too so they're bringing kids over and doing so poorly which tracks and then in between them doing the lottery draw to pick the four kids and actually bringing them over Ben proposes to Mal and she says yes I feel like this is supposed to be a growth moment like the culmination of her emotions about Ben and oron like in the last movie her friends talked about her and Ben getting engaged and she freaked out but now they're getting married and she's cool with it she didn't like the pressure of dating the king and conforming to oron and now she's going to be Queen I feel like they're thinking oh it's so romantic they're going to get married and M's going to be Queen but I don't like this first of all they're too young they're either still in high school or just graduated high school and then like why would they get married right getting married is a legal contract it makes two unrelated people legally family and gives them a lot of Le benefits because of it uh if your boyfriend is literally the king I think you can circumvent a lot of those problems I'm imagining Mal is like H I wish I could be on your health insurance plan and Ben's like you know what would solve that no he's King they could do whatever they want they don't need to be married like Disney already gets criticism for having their characters get together too fast after not knowing each other that long like in Frozen the line you can't marry someone you just met oh well you can if it's true love sort of Disney doing a commentary on themselves like yes we know we're aware of the BuzzFeed articles leave us alone and in descendants Ben and Mal have known each other like a year maybe and they got together because of a love potion so it seems wild for them to get married right now I think the main reason other than now Mal as a queen and being royalty is cool is that Mal is part of a big government decision in this movie and I think that feels slightly more Justified if she's going to be queen versus just the king's high school girlfriend oh can my girlfriend make policy decisions versus my wife is going to do my job for me anyway I'd love to cut this uh my equivalent is going to be he gives her a royal title like she's duchess of the aisle of the lost so she still has more legitimacy it's still a big gesture and he says something to her like and hopefully one day he'll be queen of Ordon too also I don't know where else to mention this but I want Mal and maybe also Eevee doing casual bits of magic in Ordon now that magic is allowed so in the original movie this proposal is what sends Audrey over the edge also Audrey's here she wasn't in the last movie and then Lonnie isn't in this movie my understanding it's something to do with like Disney scheduling contracts or something I don't it doesn't matter Audrey's upset that Ben and Mal are getting married because she was supposed to marry him her grandmother's like you let Ben slip through your fingers and Audrey confronts Mal like you want him fair and square oh wait you spelled Ben to destroy all of oron touching story for the grandkids which like is it public knowledge that Mal used a love potion on Ben how would people know that why would people know that my guess is the writers were like it makes Audrey's anger more Justified if she's angry that this isle girl spelled her boyfriend and now is getting married to him but I think in mine she could just be like you and your mom almost took over oradon you use magic you let Ursula's daughter into oradon and she's still on the loose I've been training to rule since I was a kid and you just get to steal Ben and become a duchess stupid then in the original Audrey gets angry and then is tempted by the power of Maleficent scepter which is just loose in the museum the wand was under a force field in the museum sep's just loose uh and then Audrey turns evil then in the original when they're bringing the four kids over from oradon just for Hades pokes his head through the barrier as it's closing because the barrier is just like really slow elevator doors and he's mad that he's trapped on the aisle even though he's a god which is fair he's in charge of an entire underworld I'm imagining all the other gods are taking turns covering for him like it's jury duty like Apollo it's your turn this month anyway he and Mal have a little magic fight she turns into a dragon you know the drill so now everyone in oron is freaked out then in the original ma Ben Ben's parents and fair godmother have a meeting about how to keep oradon safe because of Hades and Uma on the loose and also they found out that Maleficent septer was stolen they don't know it was Audrey yet and they ask Mal what they should do she's just the king's fiance but okay and she says that they should close the barrier for good so no more going in or out and then the rest of the movie she's keeping it a secret that that's the plan and keeping it a secret that it was her idea like Mal only tells Eevee that the plan is to close the barrier and eeve is like that's a terrible idea you said no right and Mal's like uh-huh I think she's like overcompensating like now she's all in on oron she's an oron girl now and that's why she suggests this plan uh but I don't think I need to explain to you that it's a bad plan and it makes Mal look like a bad person like running away to the aisle as a scared teenager is one thing condemning all kids to stay on the aisle as future Queen is a very different thing and then she's lying about it the whole movie and there's this big falling out at the end I hate this I'm cutting it this scene can just be like a meeting establishing the stakes like uhoh there's problems so later our characters are at Eevee's place and they're getting ready to go to Jane's birthday party but then Audrey shows up at eeve and she's like surprise I'm evil now and she turns Mal into an old ha I don't know why that's the evil spell she went with I think it's like when the enchantress made the beast's servants turn into Furniture like being evil just gives you wacky ideas for spells and then apparently the only thing that can reverse a spell from the scepter is Hades Ember Hades has a magical Rock that's super powerful I guess I think they were like we're running out of cool magical items just make something up cuz like I had a joke where I used Mickey's sorcerer hat as like a funny magical item the joke being like that's kind of lame it would be funny if they use that but how I came to that was I went on like the Disney Wiki page and there's a section of magical items and there's not a lot of good ones I'm sure some of you are think thinking Genie's lamp but they already used that in The Descendants TV show they wasted it whatever we're trying to involve Hades in this movie and so we need a reason to go to him so they go to the aisle to get Hades Umber and I think it's funny that Mal's like the barrier's closed no more going in and out except for me and then when they go through the barrier the curse on Mal that made her an old hag goes away because evil magic doesn't work on the aisle I gave them the benefit of the doubt last movie when the talking dog could still talk on the aisle I was like oh maybe the aisle doesn't erase enchantments that were performed in oron now it feels like they're just making up magic rules anyway Celia is also here because she has the key to hades's Lair because she runs errands for him so they go pick up the key from Dr facilier's arcade and Mal and Celia go to Hades Lair and we get the reveal that Hades is Mal's dad so descendants three were getting a return of the Parenthood theme the four kids who were bringing to oron in this movie those villain parents all seem nice like Celia and Dr facilier seem very close Mr SME has a moment with his kids dizzy has a nice moment with Lady Tain and then the Parenthood plot is also involved with the Mal deciding to close the aisle for good when Mal tells Evee the plan 's like so we can never go see our parents again and then this reveal that Hades is Mal's dad I thought that descendant one was taking the position that you can find people in your life who care about you who aren't your family and it definitely seems like what they were going for when this series started was that the villain parents were neglectful and selfish at best and abusive at worst and then descendants 2 is like the core four don't miss their parents and they don't miss the aisle and they're doing way better well except for Mal but that's kind of a her problem and it feels like descendants 3 is hoping you forgot all that pay no attention to everything we have previously said about the villain parents I think probably someone at Disney was like it's a bummer that the villains are bad parents and the core for all have a bad relationship with them and have gone no contact but here's a bummer kids in real life have bad relationships with their parents and I'm not against a kid series having the message that you will find people who love you and care about you outside of your parents I'm cool with that as a theme I think that's good but it feels so weird to backtrack on that and have a bunch of new villain parents written in who have good relationships with their kids and have the core for say that they miss their parents and want to see them and they think that their parents miss them like that has not been the vibe like specifically with Carlos it's been very consistent that kruella treats him very poorly I think the first book is the most interesting for this because it shows what they were going for with descendants when the series started because the book came out before the first movie as sort of like promotional material she treats him like a dog he has to sleep in a closet with be traps outside so that he can guard her clothes she told him that dogs would eat him so in my mind I'm like I don't think he has to see her again if he doesn't want to speaking of parents back to Hades Mal is mad at Hades because he left her in Maleficent to move to this cave and she's like at least mom was around um I don't like that line because Maleficent did attack her and her friends as a dragon I feel like if you do that you lose any mom points you had not that she had any to begin with the Hades plot is about him and Mal reconciling and her giving him another chance and him trying more which I like that it makes Mal reconnecting with him feel earned and not like she had to because Disney panicked I wish the rest of the core for's parents were handled that way like they're giving their parents a second chance not like it's just assumed oh they're going to be cool with their parents like a dis discuss where Carlos is like I think I want to see my mom give her a second chance just an acknowledgement that their relationship with their parents needs work so Hades lets malar the Ember and tells her that she can't get it wet then the core for and Celia are leaving the aisle with the Ember but then Gil and Harry jump through the barrier after them again it's wild that that's how the barrier works and they're arguing and then the Ember goes flying into the ocean oh no the one rule it's going to get wet immediately but Uma pops up out of the water and she catches it side note I think this is the best anyone has looked in any of these movies then Mal and Uma bicker and they finally make a deal that the Pirates will let them use the Ember and help save oradon if Mal gets all the kids off the aisle which bringing all the kids off the aisle was allegedly what they were trying to do very slow lowly and poorly until Mal saying that they should close the barrier right in my version I'm not doing the closing the barrier thing so instead I want Mal to be like you were right we need to bring kids from the aisle but we can't do that while Audrey has the scepter will you help us and uma's like I like you saying that I'm right I could get used to that so then they go back to oron and while they've been gone Audrey has been causing a lot of problems she showed up to Jane birthday party which was at the Enchanted Lake and Chad volunteers to be her henchmen the Audrey and Chad Dynamic is really dysfunctional in the first movie when Ben breaks up with Audrey she immediately is like I'm dating Chad now then in movie two Audrey's actress isn't there but they refer to her off screen apparently Audrey gets a flat tire coming to catian and she calls Chad to come get her so he drives several hours their Dynamic seems to be he's obsessed with her and she cares about him not at all except if he can be useful to her so in this movie he's her henchman and he's trying to calm her down get her to stop casting evil spells and she's like yelling at him and throwing things at him and then locks him in a closet and it's all portrayed kind of comedically like haha Audrey's being mean to her boyfriend and he's scared um I don't like this so instead in my version Chad's gonna ask to be her henchman and she's going to be like G give it a rest Chad and then teleport him away and then in the original she puts a sleeping curse on the party it's very Maleficent showing up to a party Uninvited and using a sleeping curse but Jane escaped the sleeping curse because she went and swam into the Enchanted Lake because the Enchanted Lake counteracts magic also Audrey went to Ben office and she tells him that she'll stop using the scepter if he makes her Queen and he says no so she curses him so now you're caught up with that so our team comes to oradon and they see that everyone's asleep except for one random girl who's been turned to stone uh we don't know who this girl is or why she was turned to stone but now we know that's a thing Audrey can do then our team goes looking for information and there's a lot of bickering between the Pirates and the core 4 but they bond over the course of the movie that's my favorite part of descendants 3 is the Pirates and the cor for becoming friends then there is a two long dance battle with suits of armor that Audrey is controlling uh I would love to make this shorter but it is set to a song so cutting it down would mean cutting the song short which is not really a thing these movies do the 5minute pirate ship battle in descendants 2 is preceded by a song but then the battle itself isn't a musical number so I felt more comfortable cutting that down but I don't know it's my movie I say it shorter anyway they win and they figure out that Audrey is at the fairies Cottage flora fauna and Merryweather so the girls go back to Eve's place and the boys go look for Ben and they're going to meet up at Eve's place in the original the boys go looking for Ben in the woods and they find him he was turned into a a beast by Audrey and then Jane comes in and she's filled a water gun with water from the Enchanted Lake so she uses that on Ben and gets him mostly back to normal uh I have something else planned for Ben so they're not going to find him in the woods I feel like the point of this scene other than finding Ben is the boys bonding and facing an obstacle together so in mine they're going to find Chad wandering the woods and he's been cursed into a beast I don't know it's not as good as the BEAST's son being turned into a beast but whatever and then Jane transforms him back to normal and he says something like hey have you seen Audrey I think she's evil now and the boys and Jane are like we're working on it meanwhile at eeve the kids and Doug are under the sleeping curse Doug is Eve's boyfriend he was in the first movie have I mentioned that she has a clothing business now and he's very supportive and enamored with his girl boss girlfriend and Eevee wants to try and wake him up with true love's kiss but they haven't said I love you to each other yet but she doesn't and it works hooray then Audrey uses magic to attack E's place but Uma and Mal use their combined Powers with Hades Ember and Ursula's shell necklace to like fight back so now we know that they can cast magic together then the boys and Jane arrive at eeve and in my version they're like we couldn't find Ben and M's all worried and Chad's like but they found me and Doug is like great because Doug was the one in the first movie who warned Eevee that Chad was a jerk at this point I'm like referencing things from the other movies that weren't important at the time but are relevant now I hope this video isn't like horrendously confusing anyway in the original they send Jane Doug and Gil to go find Fairy Godmother but she's been turned to stone so then they just like sit there with her the point is to get the B Team out of the way for the third act because they're the less important characters and we already have a lot going on but just sitting with Fairy Godmother is stupid so in my version Jane Doug Gil and Chad cuz he's here are tasked with staying at E's place and looking through her and Mal's spell books to see if they can find any magic that could help this is very much me in a crisis like what can I read about this problem look in some spell books Mama let's research then everyone else goes to the cottage to find Audrey and in the original Audrey isn't there and Chad has been locked in a closet and they free him and he runs off and then Ben says to Uma and Ma it's cool that you guys are friends now you'll have to tell me how that happened and um's like oh Mal promised to get all the kids off the aisle and then Ma's like guys I lied about that which like why would you tell them now so now everyone's mad at her and her friends feel betrayed and the Pirates leave and Celia's angry so she takes hades's Ember and drops it into a convenient bird bath and then Audrey turns Eevee Carlos Jay and Ben into stone uh I'm not having them close the barrier so that conflict isn't happening instead in my version the core four Harry and Uma show up at Audrey's and when they go inside Audrey is sitting at the table sipping hot chocolate holding hands with Ben and Mal's like oh my God Ben we've been looking everywhere for you are you okay he's like yeah I'm doing great why are you here with Audrey oh she came to see me and we had a talk about the future of oron and who's going to be queen and I realized that she would make a great Queen you know I I didn't realize how much I missed her I lulled you into a false sense of security you thought I wasn't going to love potion Ben I lied but in my version The Love Potion is an expression of cartoonishly over-the-top evil so and then Audrey says something caddy like I told you he didn't want to be with a villain come on Ben and as Audrey and Ben are leaving she plucks hades's Ember from Ma's hand and drops it into her mug of hot chocolate listen it's not any more stupid than a bird beath so now Mal is devastated and everyone gives Mal a pep talk like you have to go after Audrey Ben loves you we have your back and then in the original Mal turns into a dragon and her and Audrey fight and even though uma's mad at Mal she helps reignite hades's Ember and they win and Audrey Falls unconscious uh whatever that's fine can you tell I don't care about the fight scenes every fight scene I'm like can we make it shorter so Mal and her friends defeat Audrey and the sleeping curses and the Turn to Stone curses are all reversed and in the original we see the B team with Fairy Godmother in mine the B team is still doing research and I want to cut to them and Jane is looking at a spell book and she's like guys but we don't know what she found yet and then in my version Mal gives Ben true love's kiss and the love spell is broken she does some sort of speech like she does in the second movie when she's giving him true love's kiss then in the original Audrey is dying and everyone's in the room with her they don't say outright that she's dying but that is the implication and M's like the only person who can save Audrey now is Hades and Ben's like he's not going to do that for us and Mal's like well he's my dad so he'd do it for me so we're sending a car to the aisle to get Hades and then the Pirates and Celia are like well if the barriers Clos forever we'd rather be on the aisle with all of the people we know also everyone immediately forgives m now for the whole closing the barrier and lying about it thing I'm not closing the barrier so that doesn't happen then Hades comes and uses the Ember to bring Audrey back and he points out the double standard that all the villains got stuck on the aisle but when a princess turns evil she gets another chance and in the original Audrey apologizes and Ben and Mal apologize to her I want Audrey's apology to be more about her being prejudiced against the villains like I was so convinced I was good and you guys were bad I didn't realize when it was the other way around I'm sorry then Hades is brought back to the aisle but before he leaves he gives Mal the Ember back then in the original there's an engagement party for Ben and Mal despite all of oradon being under a curse the day before and at this engagement party Mal decides to bring down the barrier and connect the aisle to oron um okay so I believe in restoring of Justice right I don't think the magical prison is good but some of these villains I think are still dangerous seems like a bad plan to just drop the barrier everyone is now free and has access to Magic we've done no planning whatsoever I know Maleficent is a lizard still so she's not a threat but I have to imagine other villains have been plotting their Revenge too so in my version it isn't an engagement party it can just be like a everything everything's okay now party and Jane runs up to Mal and shows her what she found in the spell book and Mal's like does this mean we can and Jane's like yeah I think so and then Mal gives a speech to everyone like we're bringing over kids from the aisle to give them a second chance but everyone on the aisle deserves a chance like Celia's dad and my dad Hades they both helped to save oradon so with this spell that prevents all evil magic we can lower the barrier for good and no evil magic will harm oradon I'm sure you're thinking two things one if they have this spell why didn't they just use that instead of creating the aisle but you're forgetting that the aisle was an intentional malicious decision made to punish all these villains the point was putting them in prison and then I'm sure you're also thinking if there's no evil magic how will future descendants movies have conflict uh I'm going to say that it's just really easy to undo I'm imagining that a villain finds the spell book and rips the page out that has the spell on it and that breaks the spell or something I don't know who cares it's a good end for this Trilogy so Mal brings down the barrier with hades's Ember movie over so that's my pitch I had a lot of fun with it I don't know if you could tell but I have one more piece of business do you remember at the beginning of this video [Music] so so long ago when I said that my original descendants video had one glaring factual error now it's time to talk about that so I opened that video talking about Monster High and Ever After High two toy Lines by Mattel Monster High is about the children of famous monsters going to high school together and Ever After High is a spin-off where the children of fairy tale character go to high school together and I say that Disney was upset by Ever After High encroaching on their territory and so Disney copied them by making descendants Ever After High is also about the children of villains and heroes and following in your parents footsteps and Legacies and choosing good whenever descendants comes up people always bring up that they copied Ever After High it's a very popular talking point but I no longer think that's true true I don't think Disney was copying Ever After High Darling dolls here on YouTube has a fantastic video about this that you should check out but the gist of it is that the timeline doesn't really work out Ever After High was announced in July 2013 and launched in October 2013 descendants was announced in December of 2013 but the concept dates back to at least 2012 I think what's more likely was that descendant was inspired by Monster High which launch laed in 2010 and was hugely successful everyone in their mother was trying to recreate the success of Monster High I think it's entirely possible that Disney saw the Monster High concept doing really well and thought well we can do that with our stuff we can have children of famous characters going to high school and let's focus on the villain characters because apparently kids like Monsters and edgy stuff and the other thing that I think was probably an inspiration for Descendants was once upon a time time you guys remember once upon a time it was an ABC show that started in 2011 about all the Disney characters living together in modern times and having interpersonal drama it was also very successful it ran for seven seasons and I think it was a big milestone in Disney realizing that people love reimaginings of Disney characters and imagining them all interacting and I also think fairy tale stuff was just having a moment in the 2010s if you want to compare descendants to Ever After High that's totally fine they are very similar but I think the narrative has turned into big bad Disney stealing from poor Underdog Mattel when I don't think that's what happened out of this whole video and all of my wacky ideas I think this is the thing people are going to disagree with the most descendant is very interesting because I think it's a look at Disney as a company and how they view their brand and their characters and I have many criticisms of the plot but I think ultimately the plot doesn't matter Jenny Nicholson said in her BronyCon video about how My Little Pony was able to sustain such a big fandom that it helps if a piece of media has an interesting world that people want to imagine themselves in and if it's easy to create original characters to exist in that piece of media so like the wizard books by the transphobic lady cool locations interesting world and it's very easy and kind of formulaic to create original characters and that lends itself to a lot of creativity in the fandom of people writing fanfiction creating different fan works and original characters and that keeps people interested in it for a long time in the case of descendants the Isle of the lost and oradon are both interesting locations and creating original characters is as easy as picking a Disney character you want to be your parent and then coming up with a fun back story you look on Wattpad and there's a ton of descendants fanfic where it's someone's OC with a tragic past dating hairy hook or whatever I think that's the real staying power of descendants it's less about the plot and more the world and imagining things happening in it I certainly had fun imagining things happening in it did you have fun did you like my pitch it's okay if you didn't do you have other things you would like to fix about descendants sorry for the break in between videos it was a little bit longer than intended but I think we're back in the groove of things got a new camera works a lot better than the old camera that broke you can follow me other places there's links in the description and here's my Disney Cruise history video if you didn't see that um I don't know how to end a YouTube video so bye also I have doll shelves now
