[Music] hello everyone welcome back to our channel and this video is done for my students in the subject the teaching profession i'll be discussing the components the first two components of your first module module 1a which will be about teaching as a profession and module 1b which will be about the historical development of teaching in the philippines and to you my future educators i would like to congratulate you as early as this time because you have chosen the road not taken by so many the road of teaching and i am positive that you are in this course with only one reason in mind and that is to transform the lives of your students in the future it's actually a sad reality that teaching profession is actually belittled by some okay but they cannot negate the fact that teachers create other professionals because in reality in reality and this whether they would agree with this or not teaching is the one profession that creates all other professions that is what your job as teachers in the future aside from your role is very crucial in nation building you always have to remember that your role is very important because without you there would be no other professionals in the country or in the world that is why i would like to present some of the definitions given to teaching okay the first of which it says there teaching is shaping one's thought and one's action through giving instructions see how important your instructions are as teacher teachers see how important your words are as teachers your influence cannot be stopped okay so you shape you mold the students um to what they ought to be or what they desire to be okay you do not only feed the the hungry minds of the students you also have to quench their thirst for curiosity about life itself because you know when you become teachers you would realize this when you are already in the field aside from giving them the pieces of information they have to know about your subjects more importantly you have to teach them how to live life and at the end of the day the students would not actually remember what you have taught them they would not remember the pieces of information that you have shared them but they will definitely remember how you made them feel how you shaped their lives and their opinions how you made a difference in their lives okay that is why because among teachers [Music] to pass along lessons not only regarding the subject matter but the lessons about life but sometimes when i see my students already doctors they are already very successful in their own ways i feel so proud because i think and i believe that i am one of their teachers who you know who contributed even alone in the kind of life that i have now okay next it's aside from shaping you also teaching is also sparking someone's curiosity so they care about asking critical questions to learn something even if the questions are not directly related to the subject matter you'll also experience this later on okay curiosity is the key to learning in fact there are a lot of studies which would claim that kapagang is curious about the islam topic it would be a lot easier for this person to learn and to remember everything about that particular topic and so your job as teacher is to ignite this curiosity your job is to make sure that you are um they ignite that you are of help so they may be able to answer questions to how to answer the questions that they actually have in mind okay you know um effective is that how good the is the teacher or the teacher is in eliciting questions from the students okay and questions may not necessarily be about the subject matter my manga questions that are just coming from nowhere and you as a teacher should not should always respond positively to those questions no matter how irrelevant irrelevant they may seem because a very good teacher knows exactly how to make irrelevant questions relevant to the topic at hand okay so you've got to encourage them to embrace their curiosity because that's basically a part of education and remember um all questions you know all questions demonstrate a curious mind so do not dismiss questions that don't fit with your lesson it's a big no-no to say oh that question is not part of the topic you better um you better be silent you should not be breaking this curiosity you have to find ways and how to answer that question because okay because you must be very happy if one or two of your students who've been asking something would be raising questions in the middle of your lecture because that means you are very good in sparking these students curiosity the next definition is teaching is caring about the life successes and failures of so many students at once so imagine you have five classes you will be meeting them in one day and each class has 40 or more students so you have to be responsible to a hundred students in a day and you've got to consider the fact that these students because they are from the different they have different backgrounds they also have different intellectual capacity different dreams different learning styles and your job as a teacher is to think of them individually and to make sure that the strategies that you deploy and the manner of your teaching would you know would respond to this individual needs and learning styles of your students you care about their successes and you have to care about their failures as well i've been teaching for like 15 years already they are all successful and i'm so proud of their successes i say you cannot really explain if you see your former students you know soaring high you cannot also explain that sadness that you have once you find out you also have to to think of that particular student this is so you would always take care of their successes and other failures because at the end of the day among teachers we only do not we do not think of any other things how are we going to be of help so that this particular student would become the person that he would want to become i also would like to read that when we speak of successes we are not only referring to how rich young former students in former students because success is not only tantamount to the money that you have in the bank or the money you have in your wallet okay success would also mean happiness despite the kind of life that you have you're still happy despite how poor you are you are happy and you are contented it could also mean a success so my definition of success would not be the same as others definitions of success but i would like to reiterate there are different ways on how to measure one's successes and each success is also coupled with failures because you can never become successful without experiencing failures and when you become teachers okay you always have to think of it what can i do to make for them for my students to overcome failures to stand after a fall to reach the success that they want to reach what contribution could i make okay it's so ironical that there are a lot of teachers who can teach other kids how to read and how to write and how to speak english how to do mathematics where they cannot teach those same things on their own kids actually i'm teaching these students but i cannot spend so many hours you know sitting with my kids and teaching them something about their lesson because i am always preparing teachers would always prepare for their students that's a reality okay so you've got to be thankful with your teachers of your you've got to be thankful you've got to have this sense of gratitude towards them and lastly teaching is convincing students that they should be caring and respectful as well because teaching is not about like what i told you a while but it's not about teaching them the subject matter teaching is more than that teaching is influencing students to be good teaching is persuading your students to be respectful to be caring to be examples of good behavior to display good character you can only say that there is teaching there is learning in this particular class if there is a change in behavior if there is a change in character so your job later it might be difficult it might be challenging but your job as teachers later especially in the basic education elementary in high school your job is to make them good your job is to make sure that they acquire the values necessary for them to go on with their life okay right after discussing the definitions of teaching let's look into the definition of the term profession and later on will be capitalizing the meaning of teaching as a profession so when we speak of a profession we are referring to a work that requires a long time an extensive period of training and study to acquire and master specialized knowledge and skills so for you to be considered a professional of a certain uh job then you have to make sure that you spend not only a long period of time but extensive period as well so you may be able to be equipped with the necessary skills and competence in your own field so that's basically what a profession is in the field of teaching in other fields as well there are two major elements of a profession first of which is competence and the second one is the code of ethics now let's look into what competence is all about so when we speak of conflict competence we are referring to the skills and knowledge that enable a teacher to be successful competence would be about the skills and the knowledge that the teacher should acquire so that he or she may be able to make sure that he is successful in the teaching and learning process now i would like to share some of the competencies that a teacher should master the first of which is instructional delivery so when we speak of instructional delivery this has something to do with how well you present the lesson how well you um you teach inside the class it's not only about writing a very good learning plan or a very good guide but articulating that one as well to the classroom to the teaching and learning situations there are instances but failed to articulate that in the classroom and there are some who are not good in coming up with the learning plans but could actually teach the lesson very well but for you to be considered an effective teacher you should know how to make a well-designed learning plan a well-designed guide and at the same time you must be very good in translating that guide into the teaching and learning process it's instructional delivery second is the classroom management this is also very crucial for teachers you must have you must employ a sound classroom management skill so it's about dealing with students how would you deal with students with not so good behavior how are you going to teach to uninterested ones how will you how are you going to make sure that the class is ready for the lecture how are you going to make sure that there is a very good physical climate and psychological climate in the class so these are all under classroom management the next one will be assessment we have to make sure that your assessment tool should jive with your outcomes right and that your outcome should as well be aligned clear to your assessment tools because um the deformative assessment or even the summative assessment uh these are very essential in um evaluating whether or not you have achieved your outcomes at the end of the hour all right and the last one was the personal competencies or the soft skills so when we speak of personal competencies these are the qualities of a teacher right is a teacher enthusiastic does he know how to um how to mingle with students of different backgrounds all right um does a teacher have the ability to uh arouse the interests of the learners that this particular subject is boring because there are no boring subjects they say but there are only boring teachers so if you do not have those very good personal competencies then no matter how you mastered your content no matter how intelligent you are but if you do not know how how what strategies to use to share this intelligence to your students you do not have enthusiastic and enthusiasm and the like then you will never um you will never create a positive image or impact to your students so those are actually under competencies but i would like to reiterate as well as beginning as a future teachers the first thing that you have to do now is to make sure that you're fully equipped with the knowledge and with the skills about your subject matter and the later on when you are in the field you already know exactly how to transfer these pieces of information to the students that you have okay and the next major element is the code of ethics which actually ensures that this this actually are the code or the professions that ensures uh the practitioners behave responsibly how teachers act how teachers behave and in all other professions there are codes of ethics that they also have to follow so that they may be considered um good model or good example in their own fields of specialization and if proven that a teacher does not follow all the professions under the code of ethics for professional teachers then there are only two possibilities wedding there is uh you will be the the certificate of registration will be suspended and at the same time worse uh your license will be revoked okay and the revocation of license under section 23 of the republic of 7836 is actually done not by the philippine regulation commission but the board of professional teachers so hong kong we will be having a separate lecture on the code of ethics for teachers okay next there are also other elements like that of um the initial professional education because these years of learning would prepare you to the greater mission that you'll be having as teachers later on that's why you must have to complete a university or a college program be as ed or be at pe end for that matter another thing you also have to make sure that the programs you are enrolled to are accredited by the commission on higher education shed supervises teis while deaf it supervises the basic education institutions all right the next one licensing after um after after getting your degree then you have to prepare for your for you to secure your your license so licensing or the licensure examination for teachers is already mandatory and not voluntary so if you are not if you did not pass if you will not be passing your letter on then you will not be considered in professional teacher because either because licensing is one of the elements right next you also have to undergo professional development for your personal and professional growth attention saviko after your graduation all right if you are a new fight in the field of teaching it's not okay that you are just contented because things you have learned in the university it's also very important that you regularly equip yourselves with um with innovation with innovative practices with seminars so that you may be able to share something new to your students so from hindi community seminar after getting your bachelor's degree then you cannot cope with the changing times in the field of education and this is also the professional and personal growth is already a mandate um based on the cpd act of 20 2016 or stipulated in the republic act 10 9 1 you have to make sure that you have cpd units but i totally understand the reason behind this law because this only aims um growth for the professionals in their own field all right and you must also be um willing to be part of the different professional societies relevant to your own field like if you would be a math teacher then there are a lot of organizations uh that would cater to the needs of the math teachers and just make sure that the societies or the organizations would be um you would be having later on um our regular rice and at the same time are acceptable are accepted rather by uh the the philippine regulation commission okay and therefore all right let's just try to summarize this one for a teacher to be called a professional the teacher has long years of initial and professional education because it's where you would be getting the initial competence in the field of teaching another that person must be a degree holder more importantly that teacher must be a licensed holder and that that person must be very much willing to subject himself or herself to cbd units and another thing that person must adhere to the different provisions of the code of errors i would like to repeat um criteria absent then you will never consider yourself a professional right so those are the things that i would like to share with you as regards the first module teaching definitions given to teaching and teaching as a profession okay
