Definition of Prepositional Phrases

  • A phrase that begins with a preposition followed by the object of the preposition.
  • Examples: in, with, for, from, and others.
  • Prepositional phrases do not have a subject-verb combination.

Examples of Prepositional Phrases

  1. Next month
    • "I will go to Bali next month."
  2. With a preposition
    • "The discussion with a preposition is about my brother."
  3. For working on the project
    • Preposition: for, Object: working on the project.
  4. To Bandung
    • "I will go to Bandung."

Using Prepositional Phrases in Dialogue

  • Example Dialogue:
    • Steve and Freya talking about the birthday party:
      • Steve asks Freya if she will come to Alicia's birthday party.
      • Freya says that her brother is in Jakarta and it's difficult to come.
      • They plan to go together and Steve will return by 7 PM.
      • The dialogue contains prepositional phrases like at the canteen and in the locker.

Exercise
