How to Build a Birdhouse

Steps to Build a Birdhouse

1. Cut the Wood Pieces

  • Bottom: Cut a 5- x 7-inch piece.
  • Side Walls: Two pieces 5- x 5 1/2-inches.
  • Front & Back Panels: Two pieces 7 1/4- x 11 1/2-inches.
  • Roof: Two pieces, each with a 31-degree angle cut for the roof peak.

2. Trim the Front and Back Panels

  • Use the 7 1/4-inch x 11 1/2-inch pieces.

3. Measure & Mark for Cuts

  • Wide Point: Mark 5-inches from the bottom on both edges.
  • Narrow Base: Make marks 1 1/8-inch from each side on the bottom edge.

4. Make Cut Lines

  • Draw lines connecting points on the panel edges.

5. Drill the Entrance

  • Locate entrance 5-inches from the bottom, centered.
  • Drill with a 1 1/2-inch hole saw.

6. Assemble the Birdhouse

  • Dry fit pieces, use wood glue and nails to assemble.
  • Attach bottom to the walls.

7. Attach Roof

  • Glue and nail roof pieces to the top edges.

8. Install Perch

  • Drill a hole for the perch, glue, and insert dowel.

9. Sand and Paint

  • Sand rough edges, paint or stain as desired.
