Lecture Notes: Intercessory Prayer and Change

Welcome and Introduction

  • Purpose: To prepare hearts and minds for what the Lord is saying about prayer.

Theme: Change is Inevitable

  • Scripture Reference: Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV) — "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."
  • Key Idea: Change is unstoppable and happens whether we want to participate or not.
  • Analogy: Like Peter Pan, change occurs regardless of our desires to stay the same.

Understanding Change

  • Attributes of Change:
    • Inevitable: Cannot be stopped.
    • Invisible: Often not seen until it has happened.
    • Invincible: Cannot be fought against successfully.
    • Indispensable: Necessary for growth.
  • Purpose: To grow up in the Lord and mature spiritually.
  • Training for Change: Requires practice, effort, and pushing past comfort zones.

Consistency in Faith

  • Discipline: Radical self-discipline is required in spiritual practice.
  • Continuous Effort: Being consistent and repetitive in practicing faith.
  • Scriptural Guidance:
    • Ephesians 6:10-11 (KJV): "Put on the whole armor of God..."
    • Progression in Faith: From understanding redemption and salvation (Ephesians chapters 1-5) to putting on the armor of God.

Prayer and Spiritual Growth

  • Prayer Practices: Pray always, in spirit and understanding, intercede for others.
  • Scriptural Encouragement:
    • Luke 18:1 (KJV): Men ought always to pray.
    • 1 Corinthians 14:15: Pray with the spirit and understanding.

  • Encouragement to: Rely on God's strength and promises for healing and comfort.
